Appearance(s)

Well then, my hostage has no more use to me, does she? Ah, such a waste. Wait a moment... I’ve just had a delicious idea. Have you heard of the giant spiders prowling about this region? They'd appreciate a nice, hot meal, wouldn’t you agree?
— Novala

Novala (Japanese: ノベラ Novela) is a minor boss appearing in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is an underling of Riev seeking Eirika's bracelet.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Novala is the boss of Chapter 6: Victims of War.

During the chapter he appears with Riev, discussing the best course of action to capture Eirika and her bracelet. Riev leaves after being assured that Novala will be successful.

Once Eirika's forces draw near, he attempts to convince them to surrender; he is successful in obtaining her bracelet after using some Renais citizens as bargaining chips but is unable to convince the group to lay down their weapons. Unperturbed, Novala then sends the citizens to their possible deaths at the hands of a Bael, to Eirika's horror, and commands his accompanying troops to capture the princess and kill the rest of her party.

Novala ends up killed by Eirika's forces regardless of his efforts.

Personality and character

While Novala puts on a face of respect when Riev is present, he appears to resent him in private and is eager to take his place. The way Novala and Riev discuss their "master" may imply that he is loyal to someone other than Grado, but he is killed before this can be elaborated. One of Novala's primary goals was to garner fame and glory.

Novala is shown to take delight in the suffering of others and is remorseless when he sends the Renais citizens away to be eaten by a Bael lurking in the nearby mountains. He also asserts that he may do as he likes during war and continues to express no remorse for his actions when confronted by Eirika.

Trivia

  • During the ending scenes of Chapter 6 Seth refers to Novala by name despite Novala never disclosing it to anyone in Eirika's group.
