“ | Motivated, are we? Then use that fire to best me in battle, little Prince/Princess. If you would see the outside world beyond the view from your window, defeat me. Prove that all of the time I've devoted to training you has not been in vain! | ” | — Xander |

Nohr (Japanese: 暗夜の同胞 Dark Night Brethren) is the first chapter of Fire Emblem Fates. It mainly exists for story purposes, with little gameplay required. This chapter introduces Corrin's attendants and Nohrian siblings, and again demonstrates the power of Dragon Veins.
Plot

Nohr (chapter)/Script - The below plot corresponds to the use of a male Corrin. If you refresh this page, it is possible to get an alternate reading using a female variation instead.
Corrin is woken from his dream by his attendants, Flora, Felicia, Jakob, and Gunter. Though it is morning, it is still dark outside, and Corrin is not yet fully awake. Flora and Felicia, children of the Ice Tribe, use their ice magic to force him awake. He tells his attendants of the dream he had just woken from, and of the Hoshidans who called him their sibling. Flora and Felicia interrupt, however, reminding Corrin that his training session with Xander is due to begin.
Outside, Xander and Corrin fight briefly, but Xander easily overpowers his younger sibling. He warns Corrin of the reasons why he must train so hard: to be able to defend himself from enemies, and to prove his ability to his father, King Garon. Xander warns that if Corrin cannot land a hit on him, Garon may never allow him to leave the Northern Fortress, and tells him to use that threat as motivation to best his elder brother.
Xander allows Corrin to take the first strike. He tells Corrin to strike with real intent to kill, if he is to succeed. After the first round of fighting, Xander determines that Corrin's wounds need treatment, and uses a Dragon Vein to reveal a healing area. He tells Corrin that as a descendant of the dragons, he also possesses this power, and must learn to use it wherever he finds it. Corrin uses the Healtile to recover, and charges at Xander again, finally overcoming the challenge of his brother.
Xander and Leo congratulate Corrin on his success, and Xander claims that Corrin could someday become the strongest fighter in all of Nohr. Leo mentions that true strength comes from more than just swordplay, but Corrin interrupts him to tell him his collar is inside out, causing him to run off in embarrassment. After some light teasing, Corrin's sisters, Camilla and Elise arrive. Camilla offers to treat his wounds, while Elise is just happy to see her beloved elder sibling. The family treat Corrin to good news: their father has finally allowed Corrin to leave the Northern Fortress, and asked that he return to the capital. Inside, another of Corrin's servants, Lilith, has prepared horses for the journey, and tells him that she will be traveling alongside him. Gunter orders Flora and Jakob to remain behind at the fortress, while he and Felicia accompany Corrin.
Summary
After waking from the dream, Corrin trains with his brother Xander. However, the outcome of the day's training is more important than he realizes.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
On the first turn, move Corrin towards Xander, and attack on the second turn. Xander will trigger the Dragon Vein point to reveal a Healtile; use it to recover HP. Corrin can then challenge Xander twice more to win the battle.
Trivia
- The damage dealt in each round of battle is predetermined, and is not affected by either unit's actual stats.
- In the first round, Corrin will deal 8 damage, and Xander will deal 11 damage.
- In the second round, Corrin will deal 8-11 damage. Xander will deal 11 damage if Corrin's HP is full, or 9 damage if it is not. As such, it is impossible to lose this chapter if the player selected HP as Corrin's boon stat.
- In the third round, Corrin will deal 10 damage, defeating Xander.
