Plot

In the middle of the night, Nino attempts to sneak away from the group, though Jaffar notices and confronts Nino just before she is able to leave. Jaffar knows full well that Nino is leaving to see Sonia to confront her on the true nature of assassination plot of the prince and whether or not her own mother truly ordered for her death. Jaffar tries to dissuade her from going but Nino refuses to listen, prompting Jaffar to offer to accompany her. Nino accepts Jaffar’s offer and they head for Sonia’s most probable location: the water temple. Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn eavesdropped on Nino and Jaffar’s conversation. Eliwood and Lyn are concerned that Nino is heading into a very dangerous situation and decide to follow her. Hector, however, does not follow, prompting Eliwood to tell him to hurry. Hector still refuses to move and begins to angrily rant that he has doubts as to whether or not Jaffar’s life is worth saving and how essential he is to their goal of defeating Nergal. Eliwood clarifies that he wants Jaffar and Nino to continue living after the suffering they experienced in the Black Fang; afterall, Eliwood’s time in Bern has at the very least made one thing clear: not all Black Fang members are evil. Hector, though still seeking revenge for Leila’s death, relents and softens his stance on Jaffar, now wanting for him to live so that he may pay for the deaths of his friends. The Lycian lords then leave in pursuit of Nino and Jaffar.
The scene then changes to the water temple where Sonia has decided to regroup. Suddenly, Limstella appears and reminds Sonia that Nergal still demands the death of Eliwood despite the death of most of the Four Fangs. Just as Sonia promises to kill Eliwood and his company herself, Brendan barges in and sees Sonia and Limstella talking. Having been found out by Brendan, Sonia admits to her husband that she only married him to seize control of the Black Fang. Sonia, confident that Brendan is powerless to stop her, continues to gloat, telling her husband that he should have heeded the words of his sons as they suspected her impure motivations from the beginning. Brendan suddenly attacks and the two exchange blows, with Sonia emerging as the victor. Limstella takes Brendan’s Quintessence and, noticing Brendan managed to harm Sonia, offers to take over for her. Sonia rebuffs her offer and insists on taking on Eliwood to maintain her image as a perfect being.
Nino and Jaffar arrive at the temple, and encounter a fleeing Jan. They stop him and Jan tells the two to flee as the leader of the Black Fang has been killed. Just then, Sonia appears, prompting Jan to flee. Sonia begins to rebuke Nino for her failure and accidentally reveals that she is not truly Nino’s mother. Sonia, seeing little harm in letting Nino know the truth when she is so close to death, reveals that Nino’s true parents were known as the finest mages in all of Lycia. Thirteen years ago, Sonia approached their home disguised as a starving peasant. Out of genuine concern, the family gave her refuge and succor. Sonia seized the opportunity and took one of their children hostage to force them to relinquish the secret of the dragons they alone knew. Once she obtained the information she was seeking, she killed the entire family, except for Nino. Nergal saw potential in the lone survivor and ordered Sonia to raise Nino as her daughter, a task she loathed every second of. Jaffar tells Sonia she is soulless and promises, for the sake of Nino, to kill her without fail. Just as Sonia is about to inflict the Fang’s punishment on Jaffar and Nino, Eliwood and company arrive. Sonia is amused that her target has so conveniently arrived for her to kill and begins to flood the temple’s pathways with water while warping to a distant location within the temple. Sonia informs the group that pathways will continue to form that will lead them to her and invites them to meet their doom, thus, beginning the battle.
After Sonia is defeated, Nino and Jan talk amongst each other. Nino informs Jan that she learned the truth of her family, propting Jan to give her a pendant that belonged to her real mother. Brendan had been investigating his wife’s past and only recently discovered that Nino was not Sonia’s daughter. Nino thanks Jan for the pendant and parts ways with him and the Black Fang family she knew. Nino returns to Eliwood and requests to join his company; a request that Eliwood happily obliges.
Back at the water temple, Sonia is clinging to her last last breath when Limstella appears at her side once again. Sonia demands Limstella disappear from her sight while weakly crying out for Nergal to save her. Limstella coldly reminds Sonia of her station, that she is a morph not a human and, thus, cannot even provide her quintessence as the other fallen Black Fang members could. Sonia dies still desperately clinging to the delusion that she is human.

When the turn count reaches 22, almost all bridges will respawn and will not disappear.
WARNING! Either due to an oversight or glitch, at least in Eliwood normal mode, the two vertical bridges at the northwestern most corner WILL NOT respawn once they vanish. If Eliwood gets stuck in the water due to either one of those two bridges disappearing underneath his feet, and there are no flying or pirate/berserker units to rescue him, the chapter will be rendered unwinnable (since he needs to seize the throne) and the player will be forced to restart.
