“ | If either of you are lying, I'll cut your tongues. | ” | — Navarre explains the conditions of hiring him to Rickard and Lena |
---|
Navarre (Japanese: ナバール Nabarl) is an infamous wandering mercenary known by the title "Scarlet Sword" (Japanese: 紅の剣士 Crimson Swordfighter), commonly found in the company of bandit groups for reasons unknown. During the occupation of Pales in the War of Shadows, he was involved in Rickard and Lena's robbery of the palace, and at some point afterward joined the Soothsire bandits of the Samsooth Mountains. When Lena and Julian attempt to escape from the Soothsires, Navarre pursues them, but is convinced to stand down and ally with Marth by Caeda. Years later, he becomes involved with the bandit group claiming the Fane of Raman in Chiasmir, but again defects to protect Phina and assist her in escaping the bandits.

He and Lena then meet up with Rickard, who has recruited Castor for the job, and the four gather to plan the heist itself, during which Navarre makes it perfectly clear that he had no patience for being tricked or roped into a greedy endeavour. Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Navarre is a myrmidon that joins in chapter 3. Navarre is a fairly mediocre unit, he comes with mediocre bases and growths, his high speed growth might seem fairly impressive, but it's only that high while he's in the myrmidon classline and will be lower if he's reclassed to anything besides an archer. Another problem for Navarre is that he specializes in swords, which are by far the worst weapon type in Shadow Dragon due to their low might and high number of lance enemies. He can use some useful swords such as the wyrmslayer and armorslayer at base, but any promoted unit that is reclassed to swordmaster can use the same weapons and Navarre doesn't have the strength to one round said enemies without getting forges which are better used for units such as Caeda. Overall, Navarre is a rather disappointing unit when taking his reputation of a legendary mercenary into consideration.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Navarre showcases the changes made between Shadow Dragon and New Mystery quite distinctly by being a far better unit in this game. The main reason for this aren't his improved bases and growths, though they definetely help, rather it's the improved usefulness of swords. Because of the much higher number of axe using enemies through the entire game Navarre's fairly decent C rank in swords becomes fairly notable. Another aspect worth noting is how Navarre will quickly cap his speed and will be very close to A rank swords upon promotion form which he gets a +3 damage bonus to help his somewhat mediocre strength, swordmaster is also a very useful class due to allowing him to double most enemies in the game while in it if used regularly. However Navarre is still held back by his low bulk, being especially problematic on lunatic reverse and reclassing allowing units such as Sirius to get access to all the strongest swords before Navarre, facing competition form fellow sword users such as Ogma and reclassed swordmasters that will also get a C rank in swords. This isn't to say that Navarre is a bad unit, just that he has problems keeping up with the demanding stat benchamrks of New Mystery that even the strongest units in the game may struggle reaching and that his unique assest can be replicated by other units.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Navarre appears as an enemy unit in the DLC chapters Lost Bloodlines 2 and 3, and all three parts of Rogues & Redeemers. A version of Navarre is playable via SpotPass as part of the Shadow Dragon character set.

Anime
Navarre is a central character of the second episode of the Fire Emblem anime, here called Navahl. While passing through the Samsooth Mountains, he is accosted by members of the Soothsires and easily defeats them, and is approached by their leader Hyman with an employment offer. Navarre initially refuses, but reconsiders upon seeing Lena captured and being brought to the group's headquarters, and joins them. During his time with the Soothsires, Navarre experiences a nightmare in which an unidentified woman is killed by bandits while he is trapped and unable to help, hinting at his motivations.
Navarre notices that Julian keeps sneaking off to bring Lena food, and when the two escape and are cornered by three of the Soothsires, Navarre appears and kills the assailants before disappearing as fast as he came. During the Soothsires' fight with Marth's army, Navarre engages Ogma in a duel, the latter being aware of the legends surrounding the former. The two wound each other slightly, but the fight is broken up by Caeda, who convinces Navarre to ally with Marth's forces.
