“ | Pah! Keep your foolish tongue inside your foolish head! ...And don't tell anyone! I have a reputation to think of. | ” | — Naesala at the end of Path of Radiance |
---|
Naesala (Japanese: ネサラ Neasala) is the king of the raven laguz, in the kingdom of Kilvas. He and Tibarn both protect the Heron siblings, Reyson and Leanne. He and Tibarn often disagree as Naesala seems to care more about money and himself than his people. His assistant, Nealuchi, is an older raven who treats him like a son.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
Naesala is introduced in Chapter 13: A Guiding Wind, as the king of Kilvas, and of the Raven laguz tribe, though his subjects appear in the prior chapter. His kingdom is well-known for their pillaging of ships, and Naesala in particular is a crafty swindler, charging outrageous fees for his services, which usually put his clients in bad positions. In Chapter 13 in particular, he 'helps' a team of soldiers from Daein to disguise themselves as common pirates and pursue the ship carrying the Greil Mercenaries, but ends up leading them into a Begnion envoy carrying the Apostle Sanaki and her Pegasus Knights instead. Once the ships clash, Naesala offers to help the disguised Daein soldiers fight them off, but only if they pay an extortionate fee. After they refuse, he simply watches the fight from a distance, then sends in troops to steal from the ships while their armies are distracted.
Later on, a meeting takes place between all of the laguz kings, which Naesala attends. There, he explains his intention to expand his kingdom by any means necessary, including deals with the beorc, which upsets the hawk clan, and heron prince Reyson, who despise all beorc for their role in the Serenes Massacre. Meanwhile, dragon king Dheginsea warns Naesala about the dangers of ruthless expansion, and reminds him of Lehran's Medallion, which could be disturbed if full-scale conflict were to erupt.
After the meeting, Reyson visits Kilvas unannounced to find Naesala and try to dissuade him from further deals with the beorc. Naesala informs him that while he shares no good will toward beorc either, his goals require further deals with them, which leaves Reyson bemused. At the same time, one of the high senators from Begnion, Oliver, Duke of Tanas, appears in Kilvas to pay Naesala for prior services involving the theft of art from one of Lekain's ships. However, upon spotting Reyson, Oliver wishes Naesala to deliver the heron prince to him, in exchange for doubling his normal fee, and they draw their plans without Reyson's knowhow.
Eventually, Naesala takes Reyson to the burned remains of Serenes Forest to initiate his plan to sell him. When Reyson sees what is is left of his homeland, he despairs, and Naesala uses it as an opportunity to regain Reyson's trust, playing into the narrative of how the beorc were unworthy of respect, and how he planned to undo them for their destruction of the forest. At the same time, he convinces Reyson to hide for the night in a nearby mansion, which happens to be Oliver's residence. There, Naesala leaves Reyson for Oliver to capture.
After Ike's troops begin their march into Daein, having gained Reyson and the hawks as allies, they run into Naesala again, who has allied with the Daein army in exchange for large sums of gold. In Chapter 19: Entrusted, Naesala himself takes to the field, posing a great threat to the invading forces. However, after seeing Reyson on the battlefield, he goes to speak with him, trying to make amends for what he did earlier. Reyson only forgives him because the situation of being captured lead him to eventually find his sister Leanne in the forest and find allies in Ike and his associates. After that point, Naesala and his army leave Daein behind, effectively betraying them again.
Naesala does not appear again until near the end of the story, in Chapter 28: Twisted Tower. There, he disguises himself as a common soldier in Daein's army in order to rescue Leanne, who had been captured by the Black Knight and kept by Izuka. Upon seeing what Izuka had done to laguz captives in the tower's basement, he formally joins with Ike and the other laguz nations in order to finally put an end to Daein's army.
In the final chapter, Repatriation, Naesala is one of the three units that Ike can choose as backup to help defeat Mad King Ashnard. This is the only point in the game when he is playable. Once Daein is finally defeated, Naesala and the other laguz forces return to their respective nations, not playing a major role again until the events of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Boss, Chapter 19 Playable
Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Naesala is a laguz royal that the player can pick out of three during the last chapter and is one of few units able to damage Ashnard. He can equip the Laguz Band, so he can always stay transformed. He is the fastest playable unit in the game with extremely high avoid, and his transformed durability is above average. However, his attack power is relatively low for an endgame unit. He has high movement and flight, though no canto. Due to his status, enemy units cannot land any crits on him without Wrath.
Among the mutually exclusive endgame laguz, Naesala is the fastest and weakest, and deals very little damage to Ashnard. However, Naesala is the only one who doubles Ashnard at base, even on harder difficulties. As Naesala joins mid-chapter, the player cannot remove or assign skills. Naesala also has no support partners. He is most valuable for cleaning up generic enemies or helping defeat Ashnard, especially if the player's Ike is weak. Note that on Hard Mode, Naesala will not be available for Ashnard's first form, so the player will still need to rely on Ike, Ena, or Nasir.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role
Naesala does not appear in the story until the beginning of Part 3: Intersecting Vows. He joins with Gallia and Phoenicis as part of the Laguz Alliance against Begnion, after the murder of their emissary, and the realization that the Senators were responsible for the Serenes Massacre. However, Naesala betrays the alliance, by leading Phoenicis's troops directly into a trap, then massacring their homeland. In doing so, he once again earns the wrath of hawk king Tibarn and heron prince Reyson, though Naesala himself does not appear again for quite some time.
By the end of Part 3, Naesala appears again to aid Sanaki while her troops try to push through Daein's desperate blockade. He, along with the rest of the major characters in that battle, witness the awakening of the 'dark god' Yune from Lehran's Medallion, and the subsequent judgement of Ashera, turning almost everyone in the world to stone. Naesala is threatened by Tibarn while there, but does not attack him outright, due to their circumstances.
During Part 4: Gods and Men, Naesala accompanies Micaiah's troop toward the Tower of Guidance in Sienne, capitol city of Begnion. Along the way, he is threatened by lion prince Skrimir, but defended by heron princess Leanne, who has strong feelings for Naesala, and can see trouble in his heart. By the time the group makes it to the tower, and reunites with the others, they invade the tower, under the control of the Disciples of Order, who had been brought back from the stone to serve Ashera. When Vice Minister Lekain is finally slain, it is revealed that, in addition to having the blood pact for Daein, he also had one for Kilvas, explaining Naesala's betrayal, and allowing everyone to finally forgive him for his actions.
After Ashera is defeated, and the world restored, Naesala returns home to Kilvas, and becomes a diplomat for other nations in Tellius. If Leanne had a strong support relationship with him during the game, she ends up marrying him, and raising two children, a heron girl and raven boy.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Naesala is a laguz royal available starting part 4 and is forced into Micaiah's team, chapters 4-P and 4-3. He has formshift so he can always stay transformed without relying on items. As a raven, he has high mobility, having high 9 move, flight, and canto. This is especially helpful on chapter 4-3, which is a desert chapter. He has the highest base speed in the game, so he will double every enemy unit unless rescuing another unit. He has enough attack power to one-round most enemy units, but compared to other laguz royals, he struggles with bulkier units on higher difficulties due to his lower strength and strike rank. He has high health and average defense and resistance. As he has consistently high avoid, Naesala's durability is overall excellent, only weak to crossbows. Naesala is limited on rout chapters by his lack of 2-range combat. His base stats are enough for him to contribute to endgame, though his lower power will limit him with generals and auras compared to the other laguz royals.
Naesala has a relatively low base level of 27 for his join time, meaning his growth rates allow him to improve more. For a laguz unit, he has high growths in strength, speed, and luck, which improves his offense and avoid. He can easily cap strength and speed, so BEXP can fix his lower growths in defense and resistance. Naesala has time to max his strike rank before endgame, giving him a significant +5 attack boost. Due to being able to double all enemy units, he can take full advantage of Ena and Gareth's Blood Tide skills in the last chapter.
Naesala has Vantage, which will have an extremely high activation rate; this means with a crit or Tear (both common with his good skill and speed), he can kill enemy units before they have a chance to attack. Adept and Cancel complement Vantage, as each can all have up to a 50% chance of activating at neutral biorhythm, improving his dodge-tank capabilities. Nullify is a useful skill, as Naesala can easily die to crossbows. Naesala also has Maelstrom which lets him sometimes counter units at 2-range, though this is unreliable and does not compensate for his lack of 2-range combat.
Naesala has a dark affinity which gives a valuable attack and avoid boost. Naesala values extra attack the most, so a partner with a fire, dark, or water affinity on the same team is most valuable, like Leanne or Sigrun. Extra avoid boosts from a dark or earth partner helps his durabilty even more, albeit it can be considered overkill especially on easier difficulties.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Naesala is one of the characters added to the game in the Countdown update, and was made available to players in the twenty-seventh Grand Hero Battle, which initially ran from January 12, 2019 through January 20, 2019. Only one variation of Naesala is currently available in Heroes, presumably based on his Radiant Dawn incarnation.

Personality and character
Naesala is characterized as being sly and a swindler, good at tricking people for his own gains. He appears to be very self-centered, and only seems to want to expand his own kingdom of Kilvas by any means necessary. To this end, he frequently betrays good friends, as well as his other clients.
He was childhood friends with both Reyson and Leanne, having known them since long before the Serenes Massacre. He is also doted on by his vassal, Nealuchi, who affectionately refers to Naesala as 'nestling', despite his complaints.
Though Naesala appears to care for little more than wealth and power, this is largely a facade, an attempt to protect his people from utter destruction at the hands of the Blood Pact. Near the end of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, this is made apparent, as he finally gets revenge on the Senators of Begnion for what they'd been doing to him and his nation.
