Mysterious Merchant
Mysterious Merchant (Japanese: 秘密の行商人 Secret Peddler) is the second paralogue chapter of Fire Emblem Engage, unlocked upon the completion of Chapter 6. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. In this chapter, Alear sets out to sack a bandit hideout, where they meet a young girl looking to find treasure.

Mysterious Merchant/Script
A bandit leader, Mitan, chastises one of her underlings for allowing a separate thief to steal from them. Another underling comes up to her, warning that a large band of enemy forces is coming for them. Mitan orders her band to secure their treasure stash. At said stash, a young girl named Anna plans to steal the treasure, but overhears the other bandits preparing to fight. With no other options, she hides herself in one of the chests. Alear and their army arrive, having been told of the bandits by a nearby village. They then engage the bandit group to reclaim the stolen goods and return them to their rightful owners.
As the battle progresses, Anna may be found either by Alear's army or the bandit group. In this case, she rushes off to meet Alear, asking them to keep her safe, and joins into their army more-or-less without their permission. Eventually, Alear and company manage to defeat Mitan and her bandit crew. After the battle, Anna once again asks to join Alear's army, much to their chagrin. Anna assures them that she can take care of herself, and reveals that she has lost her family. Reasoning that she could use the opportunity to find her family someday, Alear accepts her into their army.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
When you return to the Somniel, you can now access the Records Hall, do Relay and Outrealm Trials at the Tower of Trials, and cook meals for your allies. Relay Trials are a co-op gameplay mode while Outrealm Trials are a PvP mode. Cooking provides a particularly helpful temporary boost to your stats that lasts one mission. You also get the leftovers as a single-use healing item that is automatically discarded the next time you cook. If you have the Expansion Pass, you can now acquire Emblem Edelgard from the Lookout Ridge (the cliff directly above Sommie's shrine). This is a powerful tool that gives its wielder total control over range and the weapon triangle. It also provides proficiency in axes and bows, which allows units to aim for the powerful Warrior class. Next, you can get the Représailles and Revanche from the Ancient Well. The only unit realistically capable of wielding either of these weapons right now is Vander with Revanche, but it's still a nice tool to have. Finally, you can now access DLC paralogues and the Fell Xenologue. These strategies will delay challenging the Fell Xenologue until the midgame to ensure you have the tools to take them on while still getting to make use of the rewards for a reasonable period of time.
For this chapter, 14 Speed doubles the Axe Fighters. Your immediate priorities are twofold - save Anna's skin and prevent the Thieves from making off with your loot. The Thieves will discover Anna on turn 4 and the Strength Tonic Thief will escape on turn 6. Fortunately, Anna will flee towards Alear and is smart enough to use her Vulnerary when injured, and the Thieves' escape point is at the end of two single-tile hallways. This is a perfect time to use your Obstruct staff to block off their escape. Other than that, just move fast to overwhelm the enemies. Once everyone is dead except Mitan and her two flunkies, you can grab the Emblem Energy for Marth and Celica if they need it. Mitan and her flunkies aggro together, so lure the flunkies on enemy phase and finish them off on player phase if you need to. Mitan herself is extremely fast and hard-hitting, but she can't really stand up to Warp Ragnarok, the Longbow, or Lodestar Rush.
After completing this paralogue, your next port of call should be Chapter 7 in order to recruit Alcryst before challenging the Divine Paralogues.
Trivia
- This chapter shares its Japanese name with The Secret Seller, a paralogue chapter in Awakening. Fittingly, both chapters involve recruiting their respective game's iteration of Anna.
