— Myrrh to Saleh

Myrrh (Japanese: ミルラ, Myrrh) is the adopted daughter of Morva and an incarnation of the legendary Great Dragon of old who aided mankind during the first great war against the Demon King. She is a Manakete, a member of a race of human-like people with wings on their backs who can transform into dragons using dragonstones. She appears to be and acts like a shy, good-natured young girl.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Myrrh first appears in Chapter 8, when Eirika and Ephraim reunite at Frelia. Ephraim introduces her, stating that he found her captured in Grado territory. She explains that she and the other Manaketes living in Darkling Woods sensed a great force coming from the direction of Grado, and she went to investigate. While she was there, she was captured and her dragonstone was stolen. However, Ephraim found and rescued her and brought her with him to Frelia.

In Eirika's route, Myrrh goes with Ephraim to Grado. However, when Eirika reaches Caer Pelyn, a small mountain village, Dara, the village elder, explains that Myrrh is the Great Dragon of old legends who saved mankind from the Demon King. Dara warns her that she must go back to meet Ephraim immediately to help her.

In Ephraim's route, she still goes with Ephraim. When the group lands at Taizel after a ship journey, Myrrh runs away from the group because she senses her dragonstone. She is captured by Selena, a misguided but loyal Grado general, who has her dragonstone; when Myrrh attempts to convince Selena that Grado's cause is unjust, she wins her freedom. After Selena is defeated, Myrrh regains her dragonstone, but is sad that Selena had to be killed.

After Eirika and Ephraim reunite, Myrrh only begins fighting in Chapter 16. In Chapter 20, when the army goes to Darkling Woods, she hopes to meet her father Morva there. However, he is turned into a Draco Zombie by Lyon, and she cries over his death afterwards.

Personality and character

Myrrh is a very shy girl. Her humanoid form is childlike, as she is a young Manakete of approximately 1200 years.[1] Myrrh is a bit insecure, and finds the title "Great Dragon" unfitting for her.[2] She is also uncomfortable with sleeping by herself, being used to the presence of her father at nearly all times,[3] additionally, she hides distress from others, preferring to hide and cry in private, if discovered she generally, and unsuccessfully, denies that she was crying in the first place.[4][5] She keeps a quiet and formal mien around strangers, though she is willing to open up after she no longer sees someone as a stranger. Myrrh seems to prefer that others speak to her plainly, rather than with the high reverence the people of Caer Pelyn use. She is quite unfamiliar with human contact, but is good-natured.

Myrrh has lived in Darkling Woods all her life, taken care of by her father Morva. Little is known about her time there, but Morva had been taking care of her for a very long time. When Saleh or Ephraim asks her to come to Caer Pelyn or Renais, respectively in their A support conversations, she says that maybe she should not, since she is a dragon and may be unwelcome, but she will answer them later.[6][7] She feels separate from both humans and monsters.

Myrrh: Oh, but... I would not want to inconvenience you.
Ephraim: It's nothing you need worry about. Castle Renais is a vast place. I'm sure we could spare a room for a small girl like you. And besides, you are my sister, right? Family should stay together, don't you think?
Myrrh: ... But...you must not forget that I am a dragon. I must think about it. I would love to, but... perhaps I shouldn't, and so... I must think about it.

Myrrh: No, I'm pleased. However... I doubt I should stay too long.
    Saleh: Why is that?
Myrrh: It's because I'm a dragon. My father explained it to me. We are both human and monster. And because we are both, we are also neither.
    ...
Myrrh: Saleh... Thank you. Your words have cheered me up a little. Please wait for my answer. When all of this is finished... When peace returns, I'll give you my answer then.
