Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Muarim is the second tiger to join in the game. He has excellent physical base stats all around, comparable with recently promoted beorc units, with high strength and decent skill, speed, and defense. He has excellent mobility as a laguz, decent enough untransformed but able to keep up with mounted units when transformed. As a laguz with very high weight, he can shove many mounted units which is a valuable niche. He has a slow transformation gauge, though one turn faster than Mordecai's. He joins with a Demi Band which lowers his stats but keeps him transformed while it's equipped; this gives him a lot of flexibility for combat. Unfortunately as a laguz unit, he is limited by permanent lack of 2-range and lack of forges, so eventually beorc units will surpass his offense as better weapons and forges become available. He also has very low resistance and is vulnerable to fire magic.

Muarim has excellent growths all around, with one of the best strength, skill, and defense growths in the game, and enough speed growth to keep up. His growths are limited by his experience gain, as he joins as a higher-level laguz unit when most other units are significantly lower-leveled. Muarim's weight is high but only enough to shove Titania, Astrid, Marcia, and Tanith out of the mounted units. One statue frag will let him shove Oscar, Kieran, and Makalov, and a second will let him shove Jill and Geoffrey, so Muarim is one of the best candidates for these statue frags to improve his shoving utility.

Muarim has no base skills. As a high-weight laguz, he has the best shoving utility after Mordecai. Since Mordecai already knows Smite, Muarim is the best candidate for the Smite scroll. For combat skills, due to his ridiculous skill base and growth, he works well with most skill-based skills like Adept and Guard.

Muarim has a thunder affinity which gives a defense and avoid boost. Unfortunately none of his support partners provide any extra defense, so he only gains +1 defense from an A support at best. Lethe is another laguz and his only partner with similar movement transformed, but she has a heaven affinity (pure accuracy) which does not benefit Muarim much. Zihark is Muarim's most useful partner despite their movement difference, as Zihark provides an earth affinity (pure avoid), complementing Muarim's thunder affinity and increasing both units avoid and durability. Largo's wind affinity gives a little avoid and accuracy which Largo himself benefits from, but Muarim only appreciates the extra avoid.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Muarim is a tiger laguz that joins during chapter 1-7 and is available for 1-8 and 1-E. Then he is no longer available for the rest of the game until 4-4 and endgame. For part 1, he is easily one of the best combat units. His base stats are among the best, with overkill attack, enough speed to double all enemy units, and excellent physical durability. He also has excellent mobility, which is especially useful for ledges even untransformed. With high constitution, he also makes a good shove bot. His weaknesses are being weak to fire magic, no 2-range, and relying on a transformation gauge, albeit a fast one. Olivi Grasses are available to fix this.

Muarim is then no longer available for the majority of the game until chapter 4-4. He can still contribute in this rout chapter without investment, because he starts the chapter transformed, he can still 2-hit weaker enemy units, and he can take some hits. However, he will often get doubled and will get slaughtered by magic. He should typically be used temporarily to help clean up a straggler or two, then ignored for endgame as it takes too much investment to turn him into a laguz that's effectively a slightly weaker laguz royal.

Should the player wish to use him for endgame, it is recommended to return to base in 4-4 and give him some levels of BEXP and a speedwing. As his level isn't particularly high at this point, he will also gain a lot of standard combat experience in 4-4. Muarim has some of the best growths for a laguz, having good strength, skill, and luck growths. While his speed and defense growths are bad, he can cap strength and skill quickly, so his weaker stats can be easily patched with BEXP. As laguz gems are available in endgame, his weakness of relying on a transformation gauge is less impactful, but he is generally outclassed by the laguz royals for endgame.

Muarim starts with no skills. Due to his awkward availability, it is not recommended to assign him any skills at the end of part 1 as those skills cannot be managed until near endgame. For 4-4 and onward, smite lets Muarim function as a stronger smitebot. If invested, he's a good candidate for a satori sign to learn Roar due to his excellent strength base and growth. Quickclaw gives him a 2-range option, but it is extremely unreliable.

Muarim has a thunder affinity which gives a valuable defense and avoid boost. Due to his awkward availability, his only good available partners are Tormod and Vika, but neither have affinities that complement his thunder affinity. Other units with a thunder, earth, or water affinity will complement Muarim's affinity as they all give either defense or avoid. In particular, a unit from part 1 that's also on Ike's team for part 4 can work like Jill or Tauroneo, but this comes at the cost of not letting them have a real support partner for part 3. In general, it's recommended to support Muarim with Tormod/Vika or nobody at all until part 4.

Trivia

  • In the Introductions page in early copies of the North American version of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Muarim mistakenly has Mist's description. Later copies correct this error; Murarim's correct description is as listed below his portrait at the top of this page.
