It has been proposed that this page be split into Monk and Priest. Please discuss this change on the talk page or on Discord.

Reason: Fates class has nothing to do with GBA class, and has different Japanese name. Priest is the suggestion by the person who brought this up. An alternative is "Monk (Fates)".

The Monk (Japanese: 修道士 Monk or 修験者 Syugenja) is a basic magical class which debuted in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. It originated in that game and The Sacred Stones as an offensive magical class which wields light magic, acting as an offensive counterpart to the healing-specific Priest/Cleric, and is an exclusively male class.[1] In Fates, it is instead a Hoshido-aligned healer class which uses rods, the Hoshidan equivalent of staves. Monks are one of only two explicitly male-only Hoshido classes (the other being the Great Master), with its female counterpart being the Shrine Maiden.

They later appear in Three Houses and can wield both offensive magic and healing magic.

Compared to its fellow offensive magic classes, the Mage and Shaman, the Monk possesses lower raw magical power, and compensates for it with superior skill and speed, which in combination with the typically lightweight and accurate light magic gives them excellent accuracy and follow-up attacking ability. As is common to magic classes, they possess low HP and defense and require protection for successful use, but like Priests/Clerics, conversely possess exceptional resistance.

In the Game Boy Advance games, Monks promote to the Bishop class along with Priests/Clerics, gaining the use of staves. Additionally, The Sacred Stones gives Monks the option to promote to Bishop or Sage. In Fire Emblem Fates, it promotes to Onmyoji or Great Master.
