By "we" I mean Archanea. Archanea is saved. If Princess Nyna has truly come to chase the enemy from our halls, to free us... Then my death will have meaning.
— Midia, to Boah

Midia (Japanese: ミディア Midia) is an esteemed knight of the Holy Kingdom of Archanea, the daughter of the late Duke Charon of Deil[1], and the lover of fellow Archanean knight Astram. She was the leader of the retinue of knights who assisted in Princess Nyna's doomed escape atttempt from Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, and attempted to kill Camus when his knights arrived; she failed, and was captured and imprisoned for the rest of the war, until Nyna returned with Marth's forces to reclaim Pales. After the war, she continued her service to Archanea and became the captain of the Archanean knights. Late in the War of Heroes, she led a knight rebellion against the despotic rule of Archanea's Emperor Hardin, but was defeated and captured; by the time Marth arrived to defeat Hardin, she was about to be executed.

Role

Midia was imprisoned with Boah, Macellan, Dolph and Tomas, in a cell in Pales under the occupation of Volzhin and the forces of Dolhr. During Marth's assault on the palace and its Dolhr occupation, Midia and the other prisoners were freed and joined Marth's army. She later found Astram, who had been forced into the service of Grust since Archanea's downfall, and convinced him to rejoin the Archanea forces.

Book 1

Role

As in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Midia was imprisoned with Boah, Macellan, Dolph and Tomas, in a cell in Pales under the occupation of Volzhin and the forces of Dolhr. During Marth's assault on the palace and its Dolhr occupation, Midia and the other prisoners were freed and joined Marth's army. Book 2

Role

In the closing days of the War of Heroes, as Marth's army approached the Archanean capital, Midia was the leader of a coup of both citizens and knights of the realm against Hardin, in opposition to his despotic rule and the war against Altea. The coup failed, Midia was arrested, and its participants were slowly executed as the days passed. By the time Marth had entered Pales, Midia had been brought before Hardin, pleading for him to realise the nature and extent of his atrocities. Not taking any notice of her criticisms, Hardin forced her to sit by his side, under heavy guard, and watch as the Altean army was annihilated. When Marth's forces entered the throne room, Midia's guards attempted to kill her, but she was freed by Marth's army.

Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga

Role

Midia attempts to kill Camus

When the army of Dolhr came to lay siege to Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, Midia was the leader of the band of knights convened by Boah to lead Princess Nyna to safety. The group was instead cornered by Dolhr's forces and was forced to try and fight its way out. In the end, the group were cornered in a room of the palace, handed over to Camus upon his arrival; as he entered, Midia attempted to strike him down, an assault easily neutralised by Camus, who criticised her for the "cowardly" surprise attack upon him. She and the knights were imprisoned in the palace, where they remained for three years until Marth arrived with Nyna.

Trivia

  • Isadora of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade is something of a near-direct copy of Midia, transplanted into the role of a knight of Pherae; similarly, Harken of the same game is a copy of Astram, and the two have a very similar relationship to that of Midia and Astram.
  • Midia has unused battle dialogue in Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, which suggests that she may have been originally intended to appear as an enemy character. The unused dialogue reads: "Heartless fiends who point their arrows at our holy kingdom, if you wish to step foot inside Archanea Palace, then you'll have to kill me first!"[2]
