When we were separated during the war, you changed, Sothe. And I changed too. I want to protect Daein more than anything. Our people must be saved, and if I can help in that effort, I will.
— Micaiah, to Sothe

Micaiah (pronounced /mɪˈkaɪə/[key][2]; Japanese: ミカヤ Micaiah) is a Branded denizen of the Kingdom of Daein who played a pivotal role in the restoration of the country in the aftermath of its defeat in the Mad King's War. Blessed with the mysterious power of Sacrifice and renowned as the "Silver-Haired Maiden", she originated as a peasant fortune-teller and a friend and guardian to Sothe, but after her nation's downfall she and Sothe joined the Dawn Brigade resistance group, fighting to protect the people of Daein from the abuses of the Begnion garrison under Jarod.

Three years after Daein's downfall, Micaiah and the Dawn Brigade joined forces with Pelleas, the lost heir to Daein's throne, and rallied an ultimately victorious resistance effort to take Daein back from the Begnion garrison, after which she remained with Pelleas as the supreme commander of Daein's army. Conflict soon found Micaiah and Daein again as, on Pelleas's entreaty, she was deployed to assist former enemy Begnion in its war with the Laguz Alliance, putting her at odds with the legendary Radiant Hero, Ike.

Micaiah debuted in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn as its initial protagonist and a pivotal character, co-starring with Ike in the game's later chapters. She also appears regularly in optional bonus content in Fire Emblem Awakening.

Biography

Early life

File:Ss fe10 micaiah and sothe.png
Micaiah and Sothe's first meeting.

Micaiah was born as part of the Begnion imperial family, the grandaughter of the Apostle Misaha and the elder sister to the eventual Empress Sanaki. Of the two siblings, Micaiah was the only one to inherit the family's Branded heron blood, and thus the ability to hear the goddess's voice, the defining trait of the Empire's apostles. In the year 625, before Sanaki was born, Micaiah was believed to have been assassinated alongside Misaha by the senators of Begnion, an act blamed upon the herons of Serenes; following her assumed death, she was largely forgotten and Sanaki never even knew she had a sister until she came into conflict with the Senate herself.[3] How she survived is uncertain, but she eventually came into the care of an elderly woman, who raised her until her death; as she died, she revealed to Micaiah the significance of the brand and the stigma lying before Micaiah as a result.[4]

Following the demise of her caretaker, Micaiah became an itinerant, constantly moving throughout Daein and keeping a low profile to avoid notice being drawn by her slow aging, making her living as a simple fortune-teller. As the years passed, she became increasingly aware of the powers afforded to her by being a Branded, including her foresight ability, a simple mood-reading talent and Sacrifice, the unique skill which allowed her to heal others by drawing their wounds into her own body.[5] Less than thirteen years after the Serenes Massacre, she first encountered Sothe, then a young, timid orphan, in a Nevassa back alley. Although it was difficult to coax him into being brave enough to approach her, they soon became close friends and, from then on, wandered the world together, never parting.[6]

Around the time of the Mad King's War of 645, Micaiah began to believe she couldn't stay with him much longer, lest her cursed Branded aging process cause him grief, so while the two were visiting Crimea she abandoned him and took a ship to Begnion. By the time she arrived there, the Mad King's War had commenced, and out of worry for his safety, she returned to Daein and then Crimea to find him; her efforts were in vain, as Sothe had entered the company of Ike and the Greil Mercenaries and was an active participant in the war. They reunited in Nevassa after the war, and although Sothe was angry about her actions, they remained in each other's company.[7] For the first time, she began to open up to the people of Nevassa, and was moved by their kindness and generosity. This was also when she first met Yune, her bird companion, who appeared before Micaiah after the war's conclusion and became her constant companion; Micaiah named Yune so as the word popped into her mind the first time Yune landed on her finger.[5]

Dawn Brigade

In the war's aftermath, Begnion assumed rule of Daein, delegating its governance to an occupational garrison under the direction of Senator Numida. Following Numida's commands, the garrison's General Jarod put Daein in an oppressive, strict stranglehold, consigning the land to poverty and famine and working its able-bodied men to death in labor camps. With her newfound love of Daein's people, Micaiah resolved to do something to ease their suffering, and together with Sothe she worked to sabotage and obstruct Begnion's activities in Nevassa as much as they could. The two soon noticed others doing the same and resolved to contact them, resulting in their meeting with Nolan, Edward and Leonardo. Thus the Dawn Brigade was born with Nolan as its initial leader, though eventually Micaiah took over this role.[5] Their main activities were as noble thieves, stealing goods taken by Begnion from the villagers and returning them to their rightful owners. Their actions soon won both the adulation of the people, who came to regard Micaiah as a savior and dubbed her the "Silver-Haired Maiden", and the ire of the Begnion garrison, who sought to bring an end to their insurrection, foiled only by Micaiah's foresight allowing the Brigade to elude capture.[8]

By early summer in the year 648, the Dawn Brigade was actively hunted by Begnion forces as a serious threat to the occupation. Begnion launched an attack on one of their hideouts, one which they only barely escaped; Micaiah herself nearly fell into Begnion custody, saved only by the assistance of Sothe. This incident was what brought them for the first time to Jarod's attention.[9] Days later, as a result of Micaiah and Edward's actions saving a corner of Nevassa from bandits, the Begnion forces stepped up their hunt for the Brigade, closing in on their remaining hideout. After a skirmish, in which Micaiah used Sacrifice to heal Nico, a child severely wounded by the soliders, the Brigade was forced to flee Nevassa.

As they journeyed south, they came to the aid of the cleric Laura, assisting her by stealing medicine from a Begnion-controlled manor to heal her abbot. Although they were successful, Laura was abducted by Jarod on her way to return the medicine to the abbot, and Micaiah was lured into their captivity through Laura's use as a hostage. She managed to send Yune away to warn Sothe, but was taken prisoner along with Laura. The two were taken to Glaive Prison, where they were held along with Ilyana, Aimee and Kurth, who had been captured some time earlier. Sothe and the rest of the Dawn Brigade soon arrived to release them, and they fought their way through Begnion's men out of the prison. Once out, they reunited with Aimee's merchant caravan companions, Jorge, Daniel and Muston, who told them of rumors that Ashnard's heir dwelled in the Grann Desert and worked to rally a liberation army to take back his land. Sensing this to be the correct course of action, Micaiah chose this to be her next destination, and Aimee's caravan joined the Dawn Brigade.

The Daein Liberation Army

File:Ss fe10 micaiah's mark.png

Upon entering the desert, Micaiah felt a distant voice calling to her, leading her to a set of ancient, treasure-filled ruins built by laguz. The Dawn Brigade fought off a band of laguz bandits led by Pain and Agony, then deeper in the ruins they found Nailah, Rafiel and Volug, who had also been guided to the ruins by an odd voice. Sothe and Micaiah volunteered to escort the three to Crimea on their journey to Gallia. Following Volug's senses, they then travelled into the desert's southern reaches to find "a lot of beorc". There, they assisted Tauroneo, Jill and Zihark in repelling a Begnion attack on a fortress housing the heir: Pelleas. In the battle's aftermath, they consulted with Pelleas, his mother Almedha and his advisor Izuka, and at Pelleas's request and despite Sothe's suspicions, Micaiah joined Pelleas's cause as his vice-general, thus turning the Dawn Brigade into the first of the Daein Liberation Army.

Under Micaiah's command, the Daein Liberation army waged campaigns against the Begnion garrison across Daein. Their first victory was in Terin, in the Marado region, emerging victorious with the assistance of Fiona of Marado. With her foresight, Micaiah helped the army avoid targets where the environment would work against the rebels. The Liberation Army soon had a foot-hold in key locations across Daein and was even responsible for a mass break-out at Umono Prison Camp. Late in the campaign, rumors of a mass execution lured her to Shifu Swamp in spite of Izuka's protests, and with only Nailah, Rafiel and a small band of her close friends she successfully rescued these prisoners as well. However, her bold decisions and plans frequently put her at odds with Izuka, who took offense to her frequent objections to his own ideas, and to how the citizens of Daein had taken to rallying around her, rather than Pelleas, as their symbol of hope.

As the war passed, Micaiah grew progressively more tired and felt her foresight growing foggy and unclear.[10] On the eve of the army receiving word of Sanaki's inquest into the Daein situation, Micaiah slipped away from a celebratory banquet held by Pelleas to have some time alone, but fell into a trap at the hands of Jarod and his lieutenant Alder. Trapped alone in the dark, surrounded by Daein soldiers, she was saved only by the intervention of the Black Knight. The two fought their way out of the attack, but in the end Micaiah let Jarod escape to grieve for Alder, who fell to the Black Knight to protect Jarod. Jarod soon retaliated with a defiant fire-bombing assault on Nevassa, and while Micaiah's insistence on doing something about it raised even more of Izuka's ire, with Pelleas's support and the assistance of the Black Knight she led the Daein Liberation Army in one final confrontation with Jarod's forces in Daein Keep. She emerged victorious, and upon Pelleas's coronation as the King of Daein, he named Micaiah the supreme commander of the Daein Royal Army. With Sothe and Volug, she resolved to restore Daein to its former glory, farewelled some of her allies as they left for other lands, and reflected with Muarim on what her brand had meant to her life.

Blood pact

As the last of Pelleas's confidantes to remain following Izuka and the Black Knight's departures, Micaiah devoted her days following the restoration of Daein to working in Nevassa to personally aid the reconstruction of the city.[11] This came to an end when Pelleas instructed her to lead Daein's might to aid Begnion against the Laguz Alliance. While she had no sympathy for Begnion's side of the war, she complied out of her confidence in Pelleas, much to Sothe's dismay. She led an ambush against the Laguz Alliance army at the Ribahn River, seeking to pick off their numbers as they retreated across the river late at night. Her subsequent attempts to negotiate a cease-fire failed, and by sunrise she and the Daein army were confronted by Ike and the Greil Mercenaries, acting as a decoy to ensure the laguz armies' escape without Daein interference. Ike's forces kept Micaiah's at bay, with her foresight completely failing, long enough to acheive their mission, marking a Daein defeat.

Soon after, Micaiah was again deployed by Begnion overseers to resist the Laguz Alliance, now united with the armies of Crimea and a Begnion faction loyal to Sanaki to form the Apostle's Army. While not personally participating, she oversaw a Daein effort to defend Oribes Bridge from the Apostle's Army's attempt to cross. Daein failed to hold up to the offensive led by Ike, and she ordered a retreat against the wishes of the Begnion inspector. Shortly after the battle, she took ill from sheer exhaustion and felt her powers weaken even further, rendering her bedridden for a time. She awoke to Pelleas finally revealing that his hands were tied by a blood pact set upon him by Lekain, forcing Daein to wage war for Begnion. She resolved to help Pelleas overcome the blood pact by any means necessary, continuing to fight to buy Pelleas time to research a way out of the pact.

To appease the Senate, Micaiah conducted an ambush of Sanaki and the Holy Guard as they tried to cross through Daein's mountains, bombarding them from atop the slopes using such horrifying tactics as falling boulders and burning oil to set Sanaki's guard ablaze. Though this gambit struck a crippling blow to the Apostle's Army, the battle was brought to an end when Tibarn threatened to kill Sothe, forcing Micaiah to stand down. She retreated to Castle Nox, where Pelleas revealed he had found a way out of the blood pact: his own death. However, Micaiah refused to let Pelleas die, believing there to be another way. The Apostle's Army soon arrived to beseige Castle Nox, and despite Micaiah's best efforts they successfully broke through the Daein defenses, stopped only by the arrival of Kurthnaga and Elincia.

Divine awakening

File:Ss fe10 micaiah destroys blood pact.png
Micaiah tears up the blood pact after Lekain's demise.

Yet again, Micaiah staged one final battle against the Apostle's Army to try and prevent their advance through Daein. Kurthnaga joined with the Daein forces, seeking to protect Almedha and Pelleas, as did Nailah and Rafiel. This battle caused the chaotic energies of Lehran's Medallion to increase drastically, affecting all the laguz participants as well as Micaiah herself; as it progressed, she felt a voice calling her, ultimately abandoning the battle to follow it, taking her to a small fort where the medallion lay under the herons' watch. She found Sanaki trying and failing to sing the galdr of release to it, and as if by instinct, she performed it herself, unsealing Yune from the medallion.

The world outside the fort was soon petrified by the newly-awoken Ashera's power, and Micaiah herself was possessed by Yune, much to everyone else's confusion. At Yune's behest, the surviving forces combined and split into three separate armies, all bound for the Tower of Guidance to confront Ashera herself. Micaiah, along with Skrimir, Naesala, Sanaki and Leanne, formed the Dawn Army and took a southern route to the Begnion capital. Yune periodically returned to give the group news through Micaiah. The group engaged in two skirmishes with Ashera's resurrected Disciples of Order;in the second, fought in the Grann Desert, they fought Numida, the senator responsible for Daein's suffering under the Begnion garrison. During this battle the Black Knight also appeared again, trying to convince Micaiah to leave her army, join him at the Tower of Guidance and be spared Ashera's judgement.

The Dawn Army was the second of the three armies to reach Sienne, the Begnion capital, and Micaiah thought it wise to make camp at the Tower's base while awaiting the other two (unaware that the Hawk Army was already present). At Yune's suggestion, Ike and Micaiah selected an elite team of their eleven strongest allies, plus Kurthnaga, Ena, Sothe, Sanaki and a heron, to raid the Tower of Guidance while everyone else kept the Disciples of Order busy. Their first battle in its walls was with Lekain, still holding the Daein blood pact; after his defeat, Micaiah destroyed the pact and set Daein free from its yoke. Before engaging in their third battle, following the Black Knight's defeat, Micaiah received a blessing from Yune to grant her light magic the ability to harm Ashera.

As the group scaled the tower, Micaiah felt the voices and memories of others speaking to her, helping her realize her true identity. The fourth battle was against Sephiran, who revealed himself as the architect of all the conflicts leading up to Ashera's awakening and that his death was the only way through the door to Ashera herself. Ike and Micaiah's company defeated and mortally wounded Sephiran, but at Yune's behest, Micaiah expended all of her healing power to spare him at the last moment, successfully tricking the door into opening and thinking he had died. She fought in the final battle against Ashera, still as Yune's vessel, and through her Yune channeled all of her power to Ike to deal the final blow to Ashera.

With Ashera defeated, Micaiah and Sanaki were united as sisters, upon both realizing Micaiah's true identity. Sanaki implored her to stay in Begnion, but Micaiah declined, still dedicated to her true home of Daein, all the while confident in Sanaki's ability to restore Begnion. The two sisters resolved to work to bring their countries closer than ever, this time on equal terms. Soon after, at the entreaty of both Pelleas and the people of Daein, Micaiah took the Daein throne and became the Queen of Daein, the country's fifteenth monarch. Under Micaiah's rule, Daein entered a prosperous era.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Role

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Micaiah is the "lord" character of every Part 1 chapter, also serving in this role in three Part 3 chapters played from her perspective (6, 12 and 13) and two further chapters in Part 4 (the Prologue and Chapter 3). In all five parts of the Part 4 Endgame, she shares "lord" duties with Ike. In all of these chapters, her death will cause a Game Over.

Micaiah also serves as the boss of two Part 3 chapters played from Ike's perspective: 7 and the Endgame. In both of these boss appearances, her stats and weapons are the same as they were when she was playable in the preceding chapter.

Like most units, Micaiah is incapable of attacking certain units when they are enemies owing to her morals or personal relationships with them. She will never attack Ilyana, Jill, Zihark or the three herons. In exchange, she cannot be attacked by Zihark, Jill, Levail, Sephiran, any of the three Spirits, or Ashera.

Analysis

Micaiah is the primary lord of the Dawn Brigade and is a light mage. She has very bad physical durability, often dying to one hit from enemies in part 1. Her low speed base and growth also ensures she will rarely double without significant investment. Most enemies early on have low resistance, so she can contribute chip damage. She also gets Thani in Chapter 1-2 and 1-E, a very accurate, powerful, and high-use earlygame weapon effective on many units, so she becomes a powerful one-shot backliner especially on cavaliers and knights.

She will often cap magic, luck, and resistance, though in part 1, by the time she does, she is usually near her level cap anyways so it is more difficult to patch up her weaker stats with BEXP until part 3. However, when promoted, she can use staves and makes an excellent healer, often replacing Laura. She will also have massive range with ranged staves like Physic. Due to lack of horse and mounted units through part 3, Thani bombing is less valuable. She gains a purge tome in Chapter 3-13, a very accurate siege tome, which she can make good use of.

In part 4, Micaiah is still best used as a staff bot due to her extremely late promotion; by the time she promotes, all other units are likely very high level 3rd tier units so she cannot compete without a massive bonus experience investment. She is forced on her own team in part 4, which works well for her due to being a mage on a desert chapter.

Micaiah comes equipped with the Sacrifice skill, which cannot be removed. It is a niche option for part 1 emergency healing, and can also be used to heal status effects like sleep, but after promotion, it is outclassed by staves. If one wanted to make Micaiah a combat mage, Wrath and Resolve are easy skills to set up thanks to Sacrifice, giving her some excellent magic offense. She has higher skill capacity than her tier 1 piers in part 1, so she has room for one of these skills in earlygame. Due to her terrible physical durability, Shade makes another useful (albeit unreliable) skill to help keep her safe.

Micaiah has a dark Affinity which gives a slight attack and avoid boost. She starts with an A support with Sothe, giving both units a nice +15 avoid boost with a slight accuracy and defense boost; it is recommended to keep this support. Other options include Ilyana and Laura, as they are both backline mages with the same movement, and both give an extra avoid boost and benefit from Micaiah's attack boost. Because Micaiah is the main Lord of her team, pairing her with a mount or laguz can also be a good idea since they can carry her around as necessary while gaining boost benefits. Volug and Jill are both high-mobility units that give and gain extra avoid, and also benefit from Micaiah's attack boost.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Two versions of Micaiah are playable in Awakening: a free one through SpotPass as part of the Radiant Dawn character set, and a paid one from the DLC chapter package Champions of Yore 3.

Micaiah is also present as an enemy in the first and third installments of the Champions of Yore DLC series, as well as the first and third installments of Smash Brethren (serving as the boss in Smash Brethren 1) and the second and third installments of Rogues & Redeemers.

As with several other legacy characters in Awakening, there is a unique weapon named for Micaiah available through the Barracks or event tiles: Micaiah's Pyre.

Role

Micaiah is one of the characters added to the game in the Guided by a Dream update, and became available for summoning by players on January 12, 2018. Only one variation of Micaiah is currently available in Heroes, based on her Radiant Dawn incarnation.

Micaiah is notably the first character added to Heroes to equip a line of basic weapon skills that was not present in the game at its initial launch; Light, Ellight, and Shine were added to the game alongside Micaiah, thus making her the first blue tome skill wielder available to the game not to equip the Thunder line of blue tome skills.

Personality and character

Micaiah is highly empathic and cares deeply for the people of Daein, and refuses to stand idly by while they suffer under the Begnion garrison. She pays little mind to her own needs or even her health, always putting the people and her country first; indeed, her Sacrifice skill is effectively her self-sacrificing nature manifesting as a magical power. While she used to live reclusively, her experiences in the Mad King's War changed her and led her to be devoted to caring for others.[12] Throughout her life she has been guided by her visions, and although she often wished she didn't have them and felt as if they were a burden, she nonetheless trusted in them to keep her life on the right path, and when her foresight ability weakened during the Laguz Alliance war she felt lost without them.[13] Micaiah has little interest in or taste for finery, and as a result in the days before the Laguz Alliance war, she eschewed using her lavish quarters in Daein Keep in favour of living among the people while assisting in the reconstruction of Nevassa.[11]

Micaiah's loyalty to Daein goes double for her loyalty to Pelleas, in whom she has absolute faith to a fault. Even as Pelleas refused to back down or allow surrender in the Laguz Alliance war, and even as she did not want to fight or to indulge her subordinates' racist bloodlust, she was dedicated to continuing to serve him without hesitation, believing him to be Daein's future.[14] Upon learning of the truth of the blood pact, even as Pelleas felt doomed, she encouraged him not to give up and to find a way out, even going so far as volunteering to continue waging the war to buy Pelleas time despite her dislike of the conflict.

Initially, Micaiah held an extreme dislike of Ike as a result of his military actions being responsible for Daein's suffering under Begnion; this was compounded by Sothe's frequent references to his time serving under Ike and the role Ike had played in helping him mature, which greatly frustrated her.[15] After meeting Ike herself while fighting for Begnion, his insistence on finding a way to peacefully resolve whatever problem compelled Daein to fight led her to understand why Sothe held him in such high regard, and so warmed significantly to him even while the two remained enemies.[16]

Micaiah

A gender-neutral Hebrew name of Old Testament origin which is more commonly used as a feminine name in the modern era, meaning "Who resembles God?".[17] Originated from the same Hebrew root as "Michael", an arch-angel in Abrahamic religions portrayed as the leader of the armies of Heaven.

Trivia

  • Micaiah is one of only three magic-wielding Fire Emblem protagonists, alongside Celica and Robin; she is the only one who wields only magic with no physical weapons. As the magic weapon types of Radiant Dawn are completely different from those of Celica's game Gaiden and Awakening, Micaiah is also the first and only protagonist to wield light magic or staves (not counting reclassing in later games).
  • Micaiah shares her English voice actress from Radiant Dawn, Lani Minella, with Lyn as portrayed in Super Smash Bros., along with Rolf, Mia, and Mist in Radiant Dawn.
  • Her voice actress in Fire Emblem Heroes, Veronica Taylor, is best known for her role as Ash Ketchum during the first eight seasons of the Pokémon anime, back when she was working at 4Kids Entertainment.

  1. No year of birth is given for Micaiah, nor is her age as of Misaha's assassination stated, but at an absolute minimum she would have to be 23 years old, as Radiant Dawn is set 23 years after the Serenes Massacre. Given her reference to needing to hide her inability to age, it is very likely she is older than this.
  2. Radiant Dawn cutscene
  3. "Lekain: Poor false apostle... No one ever told you about your older sister, did they? She was the true apostle.
    Sanaki: I... had a sister?
Lekain: She died before you were born, assassinated along with Apostle Misaha by the heron clan. So the senate installed you, the second daughter, as the apostle instead.
" — Lekain and Sanaki, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  4. "Micaiah: I know nothing of my parents. But just before she died, the old woman who raised me told me what the brand was and what it meant. This is proof that the blood of both beorc and laguz course through me. And so, I am anathema to both. She told me never to let anyone see it, and to be always on my guard.
    Muarim: Wise advice...
Micaiah: I’ve avoided people most of my life to conceal my brand... and my powers. But there’s no way to hide how very slowly I age. I just keep moving through Daein. The same holds true now... I won’t be able to stay in this army long.
" — Micaiah and Muarim, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  5. 5.0 5.1 5.2 Designer's Notes: The Dawn Brigade
  6. "I met him when I was hiding out in the back alleys of Nevassa, over ten years ago. He was so skinny, but his gaze was so piercing... I wondered how such a young boy could look like that. One day, I noticed he was standing close to me, just watching. He continued like that for a few days. One day, I held out my hand. He was suspicious of me, but came over anyway. He looked like a scared animal. Then his little hand slipped into mine. It was shaking. His fingers were so thin and frail. I couldn’t let go after that. After that, we traveled together all over the continent. No matter where we went, we were always together." — Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  7. "Ike: The first time I met him, he’d hidden on a ship we were taking. He mentioned he was looking for someone who was like family to him. It was you he was searching for, wasn’t it?
Micaiah: I...I tried to leave him behind. When we went to Crimea, I split off from him and took a ship to Begnion. But when I reached Begnion, war had broken out between Crimea and Daein. I knew I had to return to Daein to look for him. I couldn’t find him, so I went to Crimea. But I still couldn’t find him... We found each other again after the war, in Daein. In the back alleys of Nevassa, where we first met.
Ike: You took routes opposite to each other.
Micaiah: When I told him why I’d disappeared, he got so angry.. I’d never seen him get so emotional before.
Ike: I can’t say that I blame him. I’d be pretty furious if I heard someone that I loved was wandering around two countries at war. Besides, I’m sure he’d hidden his feelings about being abandoned until he saw you again.
Micaiah: I thought I was reaching the limit of how long I could stay with him. He grew each and every day, but I remained the same... I didn’t want him to be harmed by the curse I lived with. Can you imagine how hard that would have been on him?
" — Ike and Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  8. "A band of young heroes has escaped the Begnion army to form a group called the Dawn Brigade. Fighting for a free Daein, they alone have stood against Begnion’s forces. They alone have shouldered the hopes of their nation. Among the company is a young girl named Micaiah, who is said to possess mystical powers. The people of Daein have come to know her as the “Silver-Haired Maiden.” They have come to think of her as the savior for whom they had been waiting. Begnion’s forces have tried time and again to capture and silence the Dawn Brigade. However, Micaiah’s ability to sense impending danger has thus far allowed the Dawn Brigade to evade the empire’s grasp." — Opening narration of Chapter 1, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  9. "Soldier: S-sorry, sir. We suspect they were from the Dawn Brigade, a band of thieves that targets goods levied from the town. People say they give what they’ve stolen back to the villagers and strut around acting like heroes. They’re said to have a witch among them, a girl called the Silver-Haired Maiden. They say she can heal wounds instantly by laying her hands on any injury. Townspeople treat her like a savior.
Jarod: And? What have you been doing about this band of fools?
Soldier: “Sir. A few days ago we stormed their hideout. We found a girl much like the Silver-Haired Maiden... We ran the dogs from their den, but they were cunning and cautious, and ...we lost them.
" — A Begnion soldier and Jarod, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  10. "Sothe, I hadn’t told you, but I haven’t been feeling well lately. My mind feels...foggy. Things I could always see clearly are now dim and vague. I may have committed us to an irreversible fate." — Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  11. 11.0 11.1 "Pelleas: It is nice to see you, Micaiah. You remain Daein's goddess of victory. But I never see your face around here anymore. Are you busy in town?
Micaiah: Your Majesty. My room in the castle is much too lavish for my taste. I'd rather be in town helping with the reconstruction. It's good work, and it makes me happy to help our people.
" — Pelleas and Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  12. "Sothe: You have to ask? You know we can’t live in the public eye. Doing something that will deliberately make you stand out... I’m just saying, it isn’t like you, Micaiah.
Micaiah: When we were separated during the war, you changed, Sothe. And I changed too. I want to protect Daein more than anything. Our people must be saved, and if I can help in that effort, I will.
" — Sothe and Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  13. "What's happening? I was doing so well...for a while... I feel like...fog is clouding my mind... Am I... losing my powers? Funny... I always wished that I didn't have this farsight... It often feels like such a burden... But this clouded vision seems so strange. Now, I miss the clarity... Ironic, isn't it, Yune?" — Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  14. "Micaiah: The Daein Royal Army will answer Begnion's request and attack the Laguz Alliance at the Ribahn River. Those are our orders from King Pelleas. As his subjects, we will obey him.
Sothe: Without even asking why? Daein is finally back on its own. Why are we even speaking to Begnion, let alone fighting for them?!
Micaiah: I don't know. I do know that King Pelleas wants what's best for Daein...just like us. He must know something we don't. I trust him. He's changed since the coronation, though. He doesn't smile or laugh anymore. Maybe it's because Izuka and the Black Knight vanished.
Sothe: Who cares about Pelleas smiling or laughing? We have no quarrels with the Laguz Alliance! Why are we targeting them?
Micaiah: Well, with a few exceptions, the soldiers are excited about hunting down the laguz... They've been promised a large bounty for each one they kill. It's certainly raised morale.
Sothe: Listen to yourself! Laguz hunting?! That's just great. We've gone from being freedom fighters to bigots in the blink of an eye. I can't believe you'd go along with such a murderous plan. How do you feel about this, Micaiah? Tell me the truth.
Micaiah: ...I don't want to fight.
    Sothe: Then why ar--
Micaiah: What choice do I have?! I'm the general of this army. It doesn't matter how I feel. Besides, I can't let the king or the soldiers down. My duty ultimately lies with them... I'm sorry.
" — Micaiah and Sothe, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  15. "Sothe: When I met Ike during the war three years ago...and fought beneath him... he made me realize this.
Micaiah: Honestly. Here I thought you were saying something enlightened, and you’re just talking about him again?
Sothe: What do you mean, again?
Micaiah: Sothe, sometimes, every other thing you say is like an ode to Ike. I know you fought beside him. I know you owe him your life. And I know you want to be just like him... But to the people of Daein, he’s the man who crushed us three years ago. Some would even call him our archenemy. If we hadn’t lost the war to that man, Daein wouldn’t be in the mess it’s in now. You know that.
" — Sothe and Micaiah, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  16. "Ike: Micaiah, we have to talk. This is insane.
Micaiah: What’s insane about a people fighting for their country?
Ike: There’s got to be something we can do! Let us help, please!
Micaiah: Why would you want to help us, after everything we’ve done? No, after everything I’ve done...
Ike: We know you don’t want this fight. Isn’t there any way for us to avoid it?
Micaiah: ...No. No, I’m afraid there isn’t.
Ike: Just talk to me! We can find a way!
Micaiah: You don’t understand. We can’t stop. I’m sorry, but I can’t explain it more clearly than that.
Ike: Micaiah, I don’t want you to die. I don’t want all of your soldiers to die. You have to let me help you.
Micaiah: Ike... Now I see it. Now it makes sense.
    Ike: What makes sense?
Micaiah: Sothe always spoke so highly of you. Now I know the reason. You truly are a good person. It’s a shame...
Ike: Why is that a shame?
Micaiah: Because it makes what I have to do even harder. Please prepare yourself. Let’s put an end to this.
Ike: As you wish. Good-bye, Micaiah.
