“ | So, do you want to duel? At dawn, perhaps? I love dueling at dawn! | ” | — Mia |
---|
Mia (Japanese: ワユ Wayu) is an energetic and borderline reckless member of the Greil Mercenaries, and a playable character in both Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. She starts as a myrmidon in Path of Radiance and a swordmaster in Radiant Dawn.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
Mia appears in Chapter 7, having escaped from a Daein prison camp. When Ike talks to her, she says that she is a mercenary hired by Crimea.[4] However, she says that was careless and was captured by Daein during the war. She had been rescued by Greil and traveled to the fort in which Ike's mercenaries are fighting in order to esacpe. She then joins the Greil Mercenaries to return the favor.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Mia is the first myrmidon that joins the party. She starts with excellent base skill and speed, having more reliable hitrates and doubling, and has the excellent Vantage skill. Her strength base and durability are not great and she does not have a mount. Unfortunately, she joins during a period where most enemy units are ranged or lance users, making it difficult to use her. Her growths in skill, speed, and luck are all good, so she will consistently double and remain dodgy, but her strength and durability growths are average or worse. Because she is swordlocked the entire game, so her only ranged options are magic swords. As a result, through earlygame and midgame, she often can't be exposed much during enemy phase.
When promoted, Mia gains an innate crit bonus, which helps her offense and complements her good skill. At this point in the game, the player has more options for forges and crit-boosting weapons, so with Vantage, she can frequently slaughter 1-range enemies during enemy phase before they have a chance to hit her. Keep in mind her durability is still low and she still can't do anything to ranged attackers, so this is only reliable against axe-users or using defensive terrain. Note that in the Japanese version of the game, she does NOT gain an innate crit bonus, but she can access 255% crit slim swords with the forge glitch, which complements her Vantage skill.
Mia's innate Vantage is the primary reason to use her over other swordlocked units, so it is highly recommended to keep it on her. While Astra is a good mastery skill, its activation rate is skill/2 as opposed to skill, and she cannot learn it without forgetting Vantage, so it is recommended to use the Occult on other units. Mia can learn Wrath or Resolve while keeping Vantage, which boosts both her enemy-phase offense and defense due to being much more likely to kill 1-range units with Vantage before they actually attack.
Mia has a fire affinity which boosts attack and accuracy. Since attack is the most valuable boost for her, she wants to support with units that also give attack. Rhys is a good support partner due to both units having similar movement, not being frontline units, and Rhys also having a fire affinity, giving +3 attack at max support. Mia's other partners, Ilyana and Largo, also have similar movement and both give extra avoid which Mia can use, but neither gives any extra attack, so Rhys is her most valuable partner.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role
Mia returns to Radiant Dawn as a swordmaster under the command of Ike. She is shown to still be a member of the Greil Mercenaries.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Mia is the only swordmaster on Ike's main team and is available from the start of Part 3. She has the highest base speed out of the team, so her ability to double more frequently than everyone else is invaluable on harder difficulties. She also has an excellent skill base and growth, so she will generally have high crit rates. However, her base strength and durability are lower, so she cannot be exposed much in enemy phase, despite being very dodgy. Several earlygame units are also armor knights, so she will have trouble with them. This is mitigated by her high crit rates and skill, and potentially giving her Adept early on. She also does not have a mount, which often hinders her movement.
In the long-term, her skill and speed will continue to remain high. Her strength and defense growths are not bad but not high enough to compensate for her bases quickly; however, she will often cap skill and speed quickly so her strength and defense can be patched with BEXP, especially with Path of Radiance transfers. When promoted to True Blade, she has a +20 crit boost; add on excellent skill, forges, and potential adept, and she will very frequently ORKO enemies with crits and extra attacks despite not having as much strength. Despite being swordlocked, there are 1-2 range swords she can use for rout chapters, although they are in limited quantity and are weak.
Mia has innate Vantage, which is not as powerful as in Path of Radiance, but will still have a reasonable activation rate thanks to her high speed. Mia benefits the most out of her time from Adept due to often needing the extra procs to ORKO enemies, having excellent speed to activate it frequently, and having high crit rates through the entire game. The Cancel skill also activates based off of her speed, and complements Vantage to prevent some enemy units from having a chance to attack her, but she is primarily limited to 1-range.
Mia has a fire affinity which gives attack and accuracy. Rhys and Boyd are other units with fire affinity with similar movement to Mia; at max support, Mia and her partner will gain a very useful +3 attack boost. Ike also makes a good support partner, giving pure avoid to help Mia's durability and also benefiting from Mia's fire affinity with attack and accuracy.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Mia is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Path of Radiance character set. Mia is also present as an enemy in the first and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series; additionally, Mia appears as an ally in Smash Brethren 2.
