Margrave Matthias Raoul Gautier is a non-playable character mentioned in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and appearing in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. He is Sylvain and Miklan's father and the head of House Gautier.
Biography
Pre-games
Matthias is the head of House Gautier in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and is tasked with protecting the Kingdom of invaders from Sreng.[1] Sometime before Imperial year 1160, he had Miklan Anschutz Gautier as his first son, and later Sylvain Jose Gautier, in said year.[2] In 1177, he eventually disinherited Miklan[3] seemingly due to lacking a Crest.[4]
Three Houses
In mid 1180, Mattias' Heroes' Relic, the Lance of Ruin, is stolen by his oldest son's gang of thieves, and request help to the Church of Seiros in order to retrieve it.[5] Regardless if it's returned or not after the situation's dealt with, Byleth may undertake an optional mission in which Margrave Gautier tasks his son with wiping out the remnants of Miklan's thieves plaguing Gautier territory. Besides this, Mattias has no other role in any of the routes.
Warriors: Three Hopes
After Grand Duke Rufus' execution early in 1180, Mattias reports to Faerghus' crown prince Dimitri that the lords Elidure, Mateus and Kleiman are suspected of being accomplices in the Tragedy of Duscur, that they likely received Imperial money and resources from Lord Arundel as a reward for their efforts, and that Cornelia Arnim, Faerghus' court mage helped both him and Edelgard arrive to Faerghus in secrecy in 1171.
Two years later, Margrave Gautier provides Dimitri political advice surrounding the Empire's declaration of war against the Central Church.
