I'm Lute, genius mage extraordinaire. You’ve probably heard of me.
— Lute to Ross in a support conversation.

Lute (Japanese: ルーテ Lute) is a young mage from the Za'ha Woods. She first appears in Chapter 4 of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, in which she is recruited by visiting village in the southwest. She is a childhood friend of the monk Artur and believes herself to be a prodigy.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Lute is a young female mage who appears in Chapter 4. At the beginning of the chapter, she is told by Artur to stay in the village. She is recruited by visiting the village in the south-western corner of the map. She also joins at the end of the chapter if the village is not visited. Artur and Lute talk with Eirika and Seth about the monsters appearing in the region.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Lute is the first anima magic user you get in The Sacred Stones, she comes with fairly low bases, but high growth rates to compensate. Because of her early join time Lute's bases aren't a major problem as she has fairly high growth rates in all areas besides defense and HP. Despite having a good speed growth, she is slowed down by every tome before promotion because of her poor constitution of 3, causing her effective speed to quite often be lower than her speed stat would imply. This is without mentioning her nonexistent bulk causing her to often die in 2 or 3 hits. Luckily for her, because of the low quality of most enemies in The Sacred Stones, Lute can start doubling with some investment and dodge tank fairly reliably as well. Lute has a choice between promoting to Sage or Mage Knight. Because of getting a significant promotion bonus in constitution and gaining a mount, Mage Knight is easily the superior choice. Upon promotion Lute will become a very effective combat unit, often one rounding most enemies while also having access to D rank staves. However, because of the aforementioned low enemy quality, Lute's good combat isn't particularly unique and many other units such as Franz or Seth can do similar things as Lute for less investment.

Overall, Lute is a fun unit to use, coming in as an Est type unit, but early enough to be trained without too much effort. She is however held back by her low bases and the high quality of most playable units in The Sacred Stones in comparison to the enemies making her contributions rather easily mimicked by units that need less investment.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Lute is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Sacred Stones character set. She is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.

Personality and character

Lute's most apparent trait is that she believes that she is a prodigy. She has a very mature and serious air and shows her vast amount of knowledge whenever speaking. She may truly be a prodigy, and she asserts her superiority often. However, as shown in several conversations, she is not used to dealing with people normally. Although she is willing to hold conversations, she has difficulty with feelings such as love, shown in her A support conversation with Artur. Lute is a very avid reader and "monk-watcher" as she declares; watching Artur appears to be one of her favorite activities.

Lute originates from the Za'ha Woods along with Artur. The two lived in the settlements at the place peacefully until the monsters started to appear. Not much is known about Lute's past, but in her A conversation with Ross, she states that her grandmother said that Lute's parents are "traveling in distant lands". According to Lute, her grandmother is like "an elegant goldfish that's been sun-dried with a wildflower". Lute seems to speak about her grandmother as if she is still alive, implying that the two live together.

Endings

Lute, Prodigy
After the War of the Stones, Lute returned to Renais to continue her arcane studies. She spent far less time locked in her library, preferring now to explore the outside world. She grew into a great and well-traveled sage.

Artur and Lute
Artur and Lute were married upon their return. Artur handled the housework, but otherwise, their lives were unchanged. When they had a son, Lute's interests shifted from studying Artur to studying her son's baffling habits.

Kyle and Lute
After the war, Kyle and Lute were married in Renais. Kyle's friends were disturbed by his choice of brides, but they could not deny his happiness. Before long, they had a son, and Kyle dedicated himself to his upbringing.
