Lucina arrived in the past shortly after Chrom's first meeting with Robin, around the same time the first Risen appeared in an attack west of Ylisstol. She saved Lissa from a Risen's blade and assisted in eradicating this first wave, and when confronted by Chrom she introduced herself only as Marth. She gave them a cryptic warning of how more Risen would come, then departed. Her first destination in the past was Basilio's castle in Regna Ferox, where Basilio let her battle against his champion, Lon'qu, whom she easily defeated once he noticed her true gender. Again introducing herself as Marth, Basilio took her on as his new champion for the upcoming tournament; Lucina agreed, intending to try and locate the Feroxi gemstone and to take the opportunity to test her strength against Chrom. Soon after, the khan regnant tournament began in the Arena Ferox, and "Marth" led a band of Feroxi warriors against Chrom and the Shepherds, the rival khan Flavia's champion. Chrom prevailed in the tournament, winning Flavia's support for the Ylissean defense effort, and Lucina disappeared again. | Lucina arrived in the past shortly after Chrom's first meeting with Robin, around the same time the first Risen appeared in an attack west of Ylisstol. Lucina makes two non-playable appearances before being recruited, both as her Marth guise: the first is as the boss of Chapter 4, and the second is as a NPC in Chapter 6 assisting in Emmeryn's defense; in both cases she has set stats and skills which are not affected at all if Chrom is already married at this point. An alternate-timeline NPC Lucina also appears in the DLC episode The Future Past 3: this Lucina's stats and skills are affected by those of her parents, and her death will result in a Game Over. Lucina joins at the end of Chapter 13 with fairly weak bases as a level 10 unpromoted Lord. As the only mandatory character among the second generation, she can have trouble finding a place on the team if the second generation is ignored since she only supports her parents, Robin, and Tiki. However, she easily has the potential to become the strongest character in the game with enough investment. Lucina boasts very strong class inheritance from her father Chrom and most of her available mothers are able to supplement her needs quite nicely. In addition, her growths are solid enough that she can quickly catch up with the rest of the party with a bit of babying. Lucina automatically inherits Aether from Chrom regardless of whether or not he has learned it and where it is in his skill pool. While Chrom's mods lean towards a physical glass cannon, most of Lucina's potential mothers have somewhat poor Strength mods, meaning she overall tends towards a "swift but frail" stat spread. Above all, Lucina wants the Galeforce skill, which gives her four viable mothers and two bad ones. | Lucina joins at the end of Chapter 13 with fairly weak bases as a level 10 unpromoted Lord. Lucina appears as an equippable Emblem Ring in FE17. She is first seen (under the name ???) as a Dark Emblem synced with Hortensia in Chapter 7. She becomes available to the player during Chapter 11, either being automatically synced to Alear once a player unit crosses row 24 and spawns Ivy's group, or automatically at the end of the chapter if Alear manages to escape on turn 1. Lucina is the boss of the paralogue The Exalt. | |||

===Role=== | |||
There are seven different variations of Lucina available to Heroes, all of which are tied to her storyline appearance in Awakening. The normal variation of Lucina is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. A spring-themed variation of Lucina was made available between the period of March 30, 2017 through April 14, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Spring Festival update, the update where this variation was added to the game. A variation based on her masked "Marth" guise was made available as a reward for the first Tempest Trials event, "Dark Clouds over Awakening", held between June 8, 2017 to June 22, 2017; this variant was later redistributed in the first edition of Tempest Trials Mini, "To Die on the Battlefield, held between September 8, 2017 through September 15, 2017, then again in the seventh edition of Tempest Trials, "A Gift of Peace", held between December 26, 2017 through January 9, 2018, and again in the fourth edition of Tempest Trials+, "Sweet Dreams", held between July 15, 2018 through July 25, 2018. A brave variation of Lucina was made available on August 31, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Brave Heroes update. A fifth variation, termed "Glorious Archer", is the game's ninth Legendary Hero, first made available to players on July 31, 2018; this variation of Lucina is the first character in the game that wields a blue bow. A Valentine's-themed variation of Lucina was made available between the period of February 8, 2022 through March 8, 2022 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Here with Me update; her outfit is based on the outfit she wore in the artwork of the Fire Emblem Awakening Original Soundtrack. A rearmed variation of Lucina, based on her appearance as a Great Knight, was added on December 7, 2023. | |||
The multiple variations of Lucina are notable for having multiple different English-language voice actors between them. Lucina's normal variation is voiced by Laura Bailey, reprising her role from Awakening and SSB4. Alexis Tipton voiced Lucina's later variations and reprised the role in Warriors; this may imply that the role was formally recast between the recording sessions for the game launch and the Spring Festival update. | |||

“ | When I fight for my father, no matter how terrible the foe, or how powerful... I know that I have no choice. I simply cannot lose. | ” | — Lucina, to the male Robin |
---|
Lucina (pronounced /luˈsinə/[key][1]; Japanese: ルキナ Lucina) is a princess of Ylisse, the daughter of Prince Chrom and a distant descendant of the legendary Hero-King Marth. After her world fell to ruin at the hands of the Fell Dragon Grima in the future, she travelled back in time to save her father's life and avert the disastrous future whence she came. For a time she cloaked her identity as a traveller from the future under the guise of a mysterious warrior known only to others as Marth, taking the name from her famous ancestor, but later discarded this guise when she revealed her true nature to Chrom and joined his army, assisting him in conflicts with the Valmese Empire and the Grimleal.
Lucina is one of three protagonists of Fire Emblem Awakening, alongside Chrom and Robin. She is also a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, representing the Fire Emblem series.
Biography
Childhood and a bad future
Lucina was born two years after Chrom's defeat of King Gangrel of Plegia; like her father, she bore the Brand of Naga which marked her as a worthy heir to the Ylissean bloodline, with her Brand located in the iris of her left eye. It is uncertain how many years she had with the Chrom of her timeline still living; she once described to the main-timeline Chrom how she and her timeline's Chrom had a close relationship where he often shared with her little secrets.[2] Nonetheless, this came to an end with Chrom's demise at the Dragon's Table, the events of which she heard only through rumors,[3] and the subsequent resurrection of Grima.
Over the course of over a decade, humanity and the rest of the world fell to Grima and his hordes of Risen, and Lucina worked with the children of Chrom's allies to fight back and protect other people. Lucina adopted the name of Marth as a pseudonym, hoping it would grant her the strength of her legendary ancestor to use to protect people, and took to wielding Falchion.[4] During this time she and her friends enacted a plan to try and restore the Fire Emblem in a bid to use its power against Grima, only to be unable to find the last of its gemstones at all;[5] as a result, the Awakening they could perform was only a partial one which restored a modicum of power to Falchion, transforming it into the Parallel Falchion.[6] As a last recourse, she and her friends conferred with Naga and had her enact a ritual to send them back in time to prevent Grima's rise to power in the first place. In preparation for her appearance in the past, she put on a mask given to her by one of her companions, Gerome, which would obscure her identity.[7] During their journey through time, however, she was separated from her eleven companions.[8]
As "Marth"
Lucina arrived in the past shortly after Chrom's first meeting with Robin, around the same time the first Risen appeared in an attack west of Ylisstol. She saved Lissa from a Risen's blade and assisted in eradicating this first wave, and when confronted by Chrom she introduced herself only as Marth. She gave them a cryptic warning of how more Risen would come, then departed. Her first destination in the past was Basilio's castle in Regna Ferox, where Basilio let her battle against his champion, Lon'qu, whom she easily defeated once he noticed her true gender. Again introducing herself as Marth, Basilio took her on as his new champion for the upcoming tournament; Lucina agreed, intending to try and locate the Feroxi gemstone and to take the opportunity to test her strength against Chrom.[6] Soon after, the khan regnant tournament began in the Arena Ferox, and "Marth" led a band of Feroxi warriors against Chrom and the Shepherds, the rival khan Flavia's champion. Chrom prevailed in the tournament, winning Flavia's support for the Ylissean defense effort, and Lucina disappeared again.
Still under the "Marth" guise, Lucina soon reappeared in Ylisstol following the beginning of Ylisse's war with Plegia, sneaking into the castle grounds through a wall accidentally broken by Chrom some time earlier.[9] She sought to prevent Emmeryn's assassination and Chrom from sustaining a severe wound from an assassin's blade, both events contributing to her disastrous future, but after slaying one assassin her mask was broken by a second assailant, revealing to Chrom and Robin that she was in fact a woman. Still calling herself Marth despite the demasking, she helped defend Emmeryn while Chrom focused on eliminating their leader, Validar. She disappeared again after the battle, resurfacing briefly later on after Emmeryn's suicide at the Plegian capital, lamenting her failure to change fate.
With Chrom
For the next two years after Emmeryn's death, Lucina did not appear again throughout the end of the Plegian war or Chrom's reconstruction efforts. She resurfaced in the aftermath of Chrom's diplomatic meeting with the new Plegian king Validar on the Carrion Isle, defending him from the sudden appearance of a Risen assassin but accidentally calling him "Father". Afterward she revealed her true identity as Chrom's daughter, properly reuniting with him and with her initially-disbelieving mother. She gave Chrom and company a brief explanation of her origins from a Grima-ruled timeline and formally joined Chrom's party, seeking to prevent Grima's resurrection by aiding Chrom in the Valmese war and beyond. She also told Chrom of her eleven lost companions and how they may likely be found throughout the world.
Lucina's main contribution to the Valmese war arc came following the Ylisse/Ferox victory at Fort Steiger. In response to the castle being surrounded by the emperor Walhart's legions, Basilio resolved to lead a legion to distract him to allow Chrom's escape, only to be stopped by Lucina. Lucina revealed that in her timeline, this mission is what killed Basilio and attempted to dissuade him from going. Though she failed, her words convinced Flavia to go with him and ensured Basilio would be more cautious in battle, although Chrom's army was later informed that he had died anyway.
Following the Valmese war, Lucina accompanied Chrom to meet with Validar again in the Plegian capital, on the promise of receiving the final gemstone for the Fire Emblem. Before attacking them, Validar referred to Lucina as an interloper, revealing his knowledge of her otherworldly origins, and in the battle's aftermath Lucina bore witness to Robin snatching the Emblem from Chrom's hands under Validar's control. This event confirmed for her the suspicion that in her timeline, it was Robin who killed Chrom, doing so at Validar's mercy. To protect Chrom's life she resolved to execute Robin, only to be stopped by Chrom himself, who reaffirmed his utmost confidence in Robin. She accompanied them in the battle to stop Grima's revival at the Dragon's Table, only to witness Robin indeed strike down Chrom under Validar's influence. Though she initially believed it to be real, she was soon proven wrong with the reappearance of Basilio, who confirmed everything to be a ruse orchestrated by Robin. With Chrom still alive, she again aided them in fighting off Validar and the Grimleal one final time, and bore witness to the reappearance of Grima, in the form of her timeline's Robin, and his resurrection of his full dragon body.
Having fled the Table with Chrom and his army as it collapsed under Grima's revival, Lucina travelled with them to Mount Prism to allow Chrom to perform the full Awakening. She accompanied Chrom and Robin in the final battle against Grima. If unmarried, she goes to Ylisstol one final time, and whispers to her infant self that she will live a better life than she did, before disappearing, leaving no trace of what happens to her.
The Future Past
Yet another alternate-timeline Lucina, along with her friends, was the subject of a rescue effort by the main-timeline Chrom and the Shepherds. In their reality, similar to the one the main Lucina came from, Grima's conquest of humanity was nearing completion, with Risen flooding the land and murdering all who crossed their path. Lucina and her allies worked to save the world from Grima, and enacted a plan to find the Fire Emblem and its gemstones for use in an Awakening. Her eleven friends split off into three groups - Cynthia, Kjelle, Nah and Noire in the first, Owain, Brady, Inigo and Yarne in the second, and Gerome, Severa and Laurent in the third - to bring them back, while Lucina remained in Ylisstol with Tiki. While the eleven were gone, Ylisstol was invaded by a mysterious assailant, later revealed to be Grima himself, who slew Tiki while Lucina could do nothing but watch.
Gerome, Severa and Laurent soon returned to Ylisstol with the Emblem itself and one gemstone, but the four were accosted by the appearance of Grima himself and a legion of Grimleal. The four were severely wounded by a blast from Grima and resolved to die fighting despite their slim odds, but were saved by the appearance of the main-timeline Chrom and his allies, sent to aid them by Naga herself. With Chrom's aid the four survived and Grima was subdued, but Chrom and his allies were warped back to their own reality seemingly by Grima himself, an act which turned out to be an effort of defiance by Robin, Grima's host, to prevent Chrom from dying at their hand yet again.
Grima prepared to attack again, but was stopped by the arrival of Lucina's remaining eight allies and the last four gemstones, completing the Emblem. Although Grima claimed Naga to be dead and the Awakening to be impossible to complete, Tiki's spirit appeared before them to reveal her ascension to the position of the new Naga and that, with her corpse lying below, the Awakening was doable in Ylisstol itself. Lucina performed the Awakening with Tiki and gained her power, and while Grima struggled to overcome Robin's attempts to hold him back, Lucina struck Grima down and put him back to sleep, bringing an end to humanity's suffering in this timeline. Afterward, this Lucina became the new exalt of Ylisse to lead the survivors of humanity in rebuilding.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Lucina joins the player's party under her true identity at the end of Chapter 13. Though a Lord character, Lucina's defeat is not a Game Over, and instead she permanently retreats in Classic Mode or temporarily retreats in Casual Mode.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Robin
With Robin as her mother, Lucina is granted total class access to become a contender for the strongest unit in the game (only possibly matched by a third-generation Morgan). Her performance, like any Robin child, depends on Robin's mods, but like most children she benefits most from +Speed -Defense for a significant boon to her offense. Lucina's most practical inheritance from Robin is Veteran, to boost her experience intake and quickly get her off the ground. Robin is also the only mother who is capable of having Galeforce by the time Lucina joins in typical play; this requires immense favoritism towards Robin, but can make Lucina's offense much stronger at join time. This Lucina can do pretty much whatever you want her to, although she has a bias towards sword classes since her personal weapon Parallel Falchion is a sword. This pairing is also notable for being one of only three first-generation pairings to benefit Morgan in some way, granting him Rightful King; for the most part, this is a footnote, since having guaranteed Robin parentage makes him very powerful.
Sully
Sully is Lucina's worst possible mother from an army-level standpoint. Both Lucina and her sister Kjelle are denied Galeforce, severely hampering their offensive potential. Lucina's offenses are hurt by Sully's -1 Strength and Magic mods, and as for her class inheritance, Cavalier is in Lucina's base kit, Myrmidon can be inherited from the superior Olivia, and only Wyvern Rider holds any interest. Lucina's best inheritance options are either Discipline for added weapon experience or Strength +2 for a bit of power. Her possession of Swordfaire and Bowfaire point her towards the Assassin class, although Wyvern Lord and Griffon Rider are at least unique to Lucina as Sully's daughter.
Sumia
Sumia passes down Galeforce, as well as Tomefaire in case you want to toy with a magical Lucina (her positive Magic mod and neutral Strength mod support this). Lucina inherits a whopping +5 Speed mod, allowing her to easily outspeed most enemies, and this pairing is further strengthened by Chrom and Sumia having a fast support. Lucina typically wants to inherit Speed +2 for a small boost to Speed. Her most powerful classes tend to be either Dark Falcon (since she has both Lancefaire and Tomefaire) or Paladin (to maintain sword access while still having the mobility of a mount and lances for raw damage). Cynthia, for her part, picks up Aether, the Paladin class, and Chrom's decent mods to play around with, and Chrom is generally considered her best father other than Robin.
Maribelle
Maribelle is Lucina's magical mother. Lucina's Strength mod is -1 and her Speed is the lowest among her viable mothers at +2, but she also gets a +3 Magic mod and Sage inheritance for Tomefaire. She also gets her coveted Galeforce. Lucina's most practical inheritance options are either Speed +2 or Magic +2. Sage is Lucina's baseline best class; she can also go Valkyrie to trade some Magic for a bit of Speed and horse mobility, Dark Falcon to make use of Lancefaire and flier mobility, or Dark Knight to maintain sword access for use of Parallel Falchion. Brady only really cares about getting stat mods, and is perfectly happy with Chrom as a father.
Olivia
Olivia is the only mother other than Robin who has a neutral Strength mod - combined with her Swordmaster inheritance for Swordfaire, Olivia is the go-to mother for raw physical damage. Lucina's Strength is a solid +2 and her Speed is a solid +3, making her offensively very sound, and she can also reclass to Dark Falcon to pick up Galeforce. Lucina's most practical inheritance is Speed +2, although Luck +4 can be an outside pick since Lucina can only acquire it via inheritance and cannot become a Dancer to get it herself. As Olivia's daughter, Lucina makes a very strong Paladin or Assassin due to packing Swordfaire, Lancefaire, and Bowfaire. Inigo, for his part, gets everything he really needs from Olivia right out of the gate - he appreciates Chrom's Luna as a reliable offensive skill, though.
Maiden
If Chrom does not have a wife by the end of Chapter 11 due to his potential love interests being married off or dead, he will marry a generic Maiden. The Maiden provides absolutely nothing for Lucina, making her nothing more than a very slightly stronger Chrom; this pairing should be avoided.
Fire Emblem Fates
Role
If the player scans the Lucina amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series into the game when prompted, Lucina will appear in the player's My Castle. The player can then talk to Lucina, and challenge her army to battle; defeating Lucina will allow the player to recruit her. Another version is available as DLC via a Fire Emblem Cipher promotion.

Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Lucina's normal variation is voiced by Laura Bailey, reprising her role from Awakening and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Alexis Tipton voiced Lucina's later variations and reprised the role in Warriors; this may imply that the role was formally recast between the recording sessions for the game launch and the Spring Festival update.

Personality
Lucina possesses a strong sense of justice and believes that saving the world is her mission and burden, and that failure is not an option. She greatly respects and adores Chrom, and as a result of his death in her bad future, she is constantly worried about his safety and sees his survival as paramount to the fate of the world. She has a weird sense of humour and, as indicated by her interactions with her mother, her understanding of non-military fashions is lacking.[10]

As an Emblem, Lucina does not have any support conversations. However, upon reaching bond level 5, 10, and 20 with any character, she has short bond conversations with them instead, which unlock the next bond level. Increasing bond level provides a variety of bonuses, such as raising the stat bonus Lucina provides to synchronized units, inheriting weapon proficiencies, unlocking new sync skills and engage weapons, or extending the duration of each engagement.
Endings
Lucina, Foreseer (single ending)
Lucina disappeared after whispering these words to her infant self: "Yours will be a happy future." Did she journey to another land or back to her own time? ...No one knows for certain.
Robin, High Deliverer & Lucina, Foreseer
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Lucina, above all else.
Owain, Chosen One & Lucina, Foreseer
Owain set off on a lengthy quest with Lucina to "stay his sword hand." Did they simply journey to another land, or did they return to their own time? None know for certain.
Inigo, Flower Picker & Lucina, Foreseer
Inigo traveled the world, ever ready with a smile or a solution when trouble started to brew. Lucina journeyed with him, and their home of the moment was always brimming with joy and laughter.
Brady, Daunting Priest & Lucina, Foreseer
Brady left the priesthood to become the world's scariest violinist. Every new rondo he composed passed first through the ears of his beloved wife and critic, Lucina.
Gerome, Masked Rider & Lucina, Foreseer
Gerome and Lucina were married and settled down near Wyvern Valley. While her husband never minced the few words he had to say, Lucina understood, and the two built a happy life.
Morgan, Gift from Afar & Lucina, Foreseer
Morgan's memory never returned, but he didn't seem to miss it much and lived happily with Lucina. Later, scholars would speculate he had come from a different future than the other children.
Yarne, Timid Taguel & Lucina, Foreseer
Yarne tried desperately to find a safe haven after the battles were done, but even that journey was fraught with danger—especially since Lucina was quick to dash to the rescue of every stranger.
Laurent, The Elucidator & Lucina, Foreseer
Longing to meet his mother's intellectual standards, Laurent took his wife on an expedition around the world. Lucina was reunited with Tiki and Naga and thanked them for helping to usher in peace.

Lucina/Super Smash Bros. series
Lucina is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series. She is an Echo Fighter of Marth—most of her moves are largely identical to his. She uses her appearance as a Lord and wields the Parallel Falchion.
Lucina first appeared in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U; she was revealed in a trailer on July 14, 2014 alongside Robin and Captain Falcon. She appears again in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; as Marth's Echo Fighter, she is listed as fighter #21ε.
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.
Lucina is featured as a bonus playable character in the Nintendo 3DS title Code Name: S.T.E.A.M..[12] Her appearance is triggered by using an amiibo at a specific point during gameplay. As is standard for the Fire Emblem series, but atypical of characters in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., Lucina cannot be brought back into a battle after being defeated; instead, the player must use her amiibo again in order to use her again.
As in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Lucina appears in this game in her Lord attire from Fire Emblem Awakening, and is voiced by Yu Kobayashi and Laura Bailey in Japanese and English respectively. Her two weapons are Parallel Falchion and Nidhogg, the former allowing her to leap to a tile within 2 to 3 tiles and deal damage to any single enemy on the tile, and the latter allowing her to fire at a single far-to-mid range enemy.

She and Chrom first appear the chapter "Paralogue 5: The Fire Emblem", where they, along with Valkyrie, Yuri Lowell, and Flynn Scifo have to protect Tiki from the Risen and Kamuz's troops. The map is based on Divine Dragon Grounds from Fire Emblem Awakening.
She and Chrom appear to join the team permanently during "Chapter 20: The Power to Change Fate". After the player reaches the third room in the Great Tree, Kamuz reappears from a Fracture with a group of Risen and his own troops after a few rounds have passed. Chrom and Lucina follow shortly after, appearing next to the third stranded pod. They rescue the allies stuck in the pod, then join the team to fight Kamuz and seal the Summoning Gate.
Bio
Chrom's daughter.
She traveled back in time from a ravaged future in which the revived Fell Dragon Grima has destroyed the world. In Lucina's world, Chrom was betrayed and slain by one of his comrades, and she intends to find the one responsible and prevent it from happening again.
In order to avoid becoming entangled in history, she started out wearing a mask and using the name of the ancient hero "Marth." However, Chrom gradually picked up on the truth about her.
Her strength of will is a great asset to her, though at times it manifests as pure stubbornness. She has a fierce devotion to refining her sword technique through daily practice, and like her father tends to wreak havoc on her surroundings in pursuit of this. She maintains a serious demeanor most of the time, yet on occasion the strangest things will prompt a laugh. She also has a fairly unique sense of fashion. While she views Chrom as someone to protect, she also reveres him as her beloved father and acts as a dutiful daughter to him.
Miitomo
As part of a collaboration coinciding with the release of Fire Emblem Heroes, two items based on Lucina's clothing were made available in Miitomo. The first, the mask she wears in her "Marth" guise, was distributed to all Miitomo users after the successful Global Retweet Event hit 10,000 retweets. The second, her outfit, was available for purchase in the Miitomo Shop from February 3rd to March 2nd, 2017.[13]

Trivia
- Lucina's birthday matches the Japanese release date of two Fire Emblem series games: April 20th was the release date of both Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light in 1990, and of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance in 2005. It also coincides with the Australian release date of Awakening itself.
- Lucina has access to the highest potential number of optional classes of any unit in Awakening if a female Robin is her mother: 34, or 35 including the Bride. This is two higher than any other potential female daughter of Robin's as Lucina has exclusive access to the Lord and Great Lord classes in addition to the full set of normal classes provided by Robin.
- While Lucina's in-game 3D model in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U has the Brand of Naga in her eye, her official render does not.
- In Fire Emblem Heroes, Lucina's "Marth: Enigmatic Blade" variant has the highest amount of potential merges of any hero not available through summoning without the use of Heroic Grails, currently maxing at +8.
- Lucina is the first character in the series to bear the Lord class whose defeat does not trigger an immediate Game Over.
