Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Lowen is a Cavalier that joins in Chapter 11 of Eliwood mode and Chapter 12 of Hector mode. In both chapters, he will perform fairly decently. He will be outclassed by Marcus on all fronts – and by Hector and Oswin in terms of combat – but will be a fairly useful unit nonetheless.

Lowen's class is among the best unpromoted classes in the game. It has high movement, Canto, rescue-dropping utility, and weapon triangle manipulation with two weapon types – swords and lances. Lowen also comes with decent bases and weapon ranks for his join time. D-rank in both swords and lances allows him to use steel weapons and Javelins at base level.

Unlike most cavaliers, Lowen's stats and growths are focused on defense rather than offense. Lowen has a high 90% growth in HP, a decent 40% growth in defense, and a 50% growth in luck. His other growths are rather mediocre, especially the offensive ones – 30% strength and speed are both lackluster. However, enemies in The Blazing Blade tend to be weak, so despite Lowen's lackluster growth in the offensive areas, he will still fight them effectively on average. His defensive stats are also very good, thanks to which he can survive more attacks than many other units.

One issue Lowen has is his mediocre speed. While it is high enough to prevent Lowen from getting doubled, it is usually too low to double, and his low growth in the area makes it unlikely to rise quickly. This makes Lowen a good candidate for the Speedwings. Enemies in The Blazing Blade are generally quite slow, so giving Lowen the Speedwings will allow him to double many more enemies, improving his offense. Lowen benefits from a good base Constitution stat, allowing him to wield most weapons without weighing himself down. Thanks to that, his speed issue is easier to fix.

Lowen has several advantages over Kent and Sain, the other two Cavaliers who join the army early in the game. He has similar base stats to both but joins earlier, allowing him to gain levels before the other two become available. The only way for Kent and Sain to gain an initial advantage is for the player to play Lyn Mode and train them there. But even if the player has played Lyn Mode and trained the other cavaliers, Lowen will remain useful in his own right thanks to his class and solid base stats.
