The Gates of Leonster (Japanese: レンスターゲイトLenster Gate) is the seventeenth chapter of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. This is the second of two chapters on the "A" route; in order to play this chapter, Leif must have headed west towards Fort Norden in Chapter 15.
Imperial generals Gustaf and Nikalaf discuss their strategy for the upcoming battle, as well as Kempf's failure at Fort Norden. Gustaf mentions that the great tactician Saias will join the battle, and the two men center their strategy around Saias's arrival - once the bishop is on the battlefield, they will go on the offensive. Then, Nikalaf confirms his strategy with the leader of his Silessian mercenaries, Misha. He also asks her if she is fighting for the Empire because Sigurd killed her mother during the civil war, but she says no and claims she fights for the starving children in Silesse. She then takes her position, and the battle begins.
During the battle, Saias eventually arrives, and once he does, the Imperial forces launch an assault. In response to Saias's arrival, Dryas panics and tries to order a retreat. He then explains to Leif that Saias is an excellent tactician who is the son of Aida and was raised in a Bragian monastery. Soon after Saias, Mueller appears from behind Leif's lines with reinforcements, and he talks to a soldier of his about the fact Reinhardt left for Connacht alongside Princess Ishtar, which will make the battle harder.
Not long after Mueller's arrival, Ishtar and Reinhardt enter the battlefield to talk to Saias. Ishtar informs Saias that Prince Julius is sick and begs for Saias to help him. Saias wonders why she is not asking the Loptian Order for help instead, but Ishtar categorically refuses and once again urges Saias to go. Saias ultimately caves in and leaves the battlefield.
If the western church is visited during the battle, Sara appears before the visitor and joins the Liberation Army against the resident bishop's wishes.
Once the battle ends, Leif and his advisors prepare to storm Leonster's interior, which is being defended by Marquess Gustaf, King Bloom's right-hand man. If Misha was captured during the battle, Leif talks to her alongside his advisors and Karin. They make Misha aware of the Empire's child hunts, and convince her that turning on the Empire will help protect Silessian children. Misha mulls it over and eventually joins Leif's army.
Units are arranged based on their position in deployment order after Leif.
When Saias appears on turn 10, a three-tile bridge west of the block of armored knights (column 21, rows 18–20) appears. When Saias leaves on turn 15, the east-most bridge (columns 28 and 29, row 16) disappears and becomes water. When a unit acts in front of the wall to the gate (column 28, row 6), it opens to allow access to the gate.
