Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
On first glance this map looks like fairly standard fare—a few physical units of all kinds and a magic boss sitting (floating?) around on a supply tile conjuring reinforcements. However, Marla isn't your average enemy conjurer, and she doesn't conjure your average Revenant or Bonewalker. Instead, she conjures witches. The longer you leave her be, the more witches will spawn, and the more chances you give them to gang up on one of your units and kill them. Therefore, you need to defeat her as soon as possible.
Since Marla starts on the other end of the map, and Warp was nerfed from its global range in FE2, you'll actually have to fight your way over, instead of warping a bosskiller over. This makes the Knights and Snipers in the western valley just a distraction, albeit one that must eventually be addressed. Pushing toward Marla means fighting a squad of physically bulky Barons. While their unpromoted counterpart, Knights, get shredded by mages due to low RES, these Barons happen to have 7 RES, more than any other enemy except the boss and making them magically bulky as well. Luthier can't one-round them without an Excalibur crit, and while Delthea can do it with Aura if she levels both ATK and SPD a few times each, the HP cost will leave her so vulnerable that she can die to witches despite having high RES. Bow chip also doesn't really work, due to Heavy Armor cutting their already low damage by half. Instead, try to focus fire and delete them one at a time, exploiting their low movement to stay out of the range of others.
Meanwhile, you'll still have to keep the enemies in the eastern valley occupied. The most effective way is to simply warp a physically bulky unit who can self heal into the mountains there to boost evasion and effectively lower damage taken even more. Alm can usually do it, as he can access the convoy to get healing items for himself. If you beat Act 1 Desaix and have the Dracoshield, you can also give that to a promoted Lukas or Forsyth and warp them over instead, keeping your convoy access with the rest of the party. Cleric!Faye can also help with Physic if needed.
Once you approach Marla's fort, be careful. Aside from the witch reinforcements being close enough that they can walk (float?) to your party instead of having to teleport, Marla, well, isn't your average "throne boss". She will actually get off of her supply tile and attack you if she can. However, as a result of this, if you successfully bait her into attacking, she won't be able to conjure witches that turn. Baiting her isn't excessively dangerous - 26/29 Magical attack will severely damage, but not kill, any healed unit hit by her Aura, but her AS is no better than a Baron, so just about any healed unit that isn't Lukas or Forsyth will always survive. Once she's baited out and off her evasion-boosting terrain, she goes down easily. Units that can take a hit from her can deliberately engage her from 1-2 range, as Aura's high HP cost will prevent her from attacking after just a few rounds of combat. Once that happens, just block her way back to the supplies and you can feed the boss kill to anyone who wants it.
Once again, you get jumped by Witches on the way out of the Fear Mountain Shrine. It's better to fight them here than to deal with them while fighting Nuibaba.
