The Lance Knight (Japanese: ランスナイト Lance Knight) is a class of lance-using soldiers riding on horseback, similar to the Cavalier class. They first appeared in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and its direct sequel Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, but were absent in the GBA games. Later, they reappeared in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
Lance knights are very capable and useful units. Since they ride on horseback, they can move quickly and have useful stats in all categories, except for resistance. Therefore, like most physical units, they are very vulnerable to magic attacks. In Thracia 776, they can dismount from their horses to use swords, traverse certain terrain, or for other purposes. Also, in all games, they can move again after most actions; this is represented with the Canto skill in Radiant Dawn.
In Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776, they promote to the Duke Knight class. Later, in Path of Radiance, lance knights can become paladins and gain the use of another weapon. Finally, in Radiant Dawn, they become lance paladins and can further promote to the Silver Knight class.
