Kronya

“ | Hello! You're here! Welcome to the forest of death! My name is Kronya. This weakling girl was just a borrowed look for me. This is what I really look like! Now, you vermin... I'll take down every last one of you! | ” | — Kronya |
---|
Kronya (pronounced /ˈkɹɒnjə/[key]; Japanese: クロニエ Klonie) is an antagonist appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is a member of those who slither in the dark.
Biography
Kronya is a member of "those who slither in the dark". She first appears at the end of Chapter 6 under the guise of Monica von Ochs, a student who vanished in Imperial Year 1179 and was presumed to have run away. Kronya infiltrates Garreg Mach Monastery as a spy, joins the Black Eagles and spends around 3 months at the monastery. During Jeralt, Byleth and their chosen class' visit to a ruined chapel of the monastery, where they subdue as many Demonic Beasts as possible, Jeralt notices the monsters they are fighting bear strange stones on their foreheads. Upon seeing this, Kronya sneaks into the scene pretending to be a rescued student and proceeds to stab Jeralt once he lowers his guard. Byleth then attempts to use their Divine Pulse and attack Kronya to save Jeralt to no avail, as Thales, the leader of those who slither in the dark, blocks their attacks and proceeds to rescue Kronya right as she fatally stabs Jeralt. One month later, Byleth and their allies pursues Kronya into the Sealed Forest to avenge Jeralt and defeat her in battle. Fellow cult member Solon then appears and claims to aid his co-worker, just as he rips her heart out and ritually sacrifices her to perform a dark spell that seals Byleth in a void for all eternity.
While it is never confirmed, story and NPC dialogue implies "those who slither in the dark" murdered the original Monica sometime during her disappearance just so Kronya could infiltrate Garreg Mach Monastery under the girl's identity.

Personality and character
Kronya is extremely sadistic and bloodthirsty. She takes great pleasure in inflicting pain and violence upon others, and is more than happy to follow her Agarthan masters in order to sate her bloodlust, showing a similar disposition with the Summoner in Heroes. Kronya is impatient and lacks tolerance toward failure, constantly wishing to show herself useful. During her last moments, she's also more than willing to ask aid to those whom she just had tried to kill moments prior. Like all on-screen Agarthans, she considers herself to be a member of Fódlan's master race and the surface-dwelling humans to be nothing but lowly animals, almost exclusively refering them as "vermin"; yet despite this, in Heroes, Kronya shows she is capable of feeling something akin to friendship towards the Summoner, in spite of considering them an inferior being. Kronya also believes that deep down, humans relish in causing death and violence just like her, despite their claims of peace.

Trivia
- During the cutscene in which Solon sacrifices Kronya, it's possible to see her heart appears to be a spherical and mechanical object. Judging by her personal skill, its presence in other important Agarthans and the group's penchant for technology, it's plausible all high-ranking members have had their bodies mechanically enhanced in some form.
- As of Heroes, Kronya is the only Agarthan capable of displaying anything resembling attachment towards humans.
