The Knight (Japanese: アーマーナイト Armor Knight) is a class of heavily-armored foot soldiers. Introduced in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, they have appeared in almost every title since; the exceptions are Thracia 776 and Radiant Dawn, in which they are divided into a set of three or four variations each wielding a different weapon type: the Armored Lance*, Armored Sword, Armored Axe and, only in the Jugdral duology, Bow Armor.
Knights are defined by their status as bulky armor units, posssessing very high defense and HP, but low speed. They also have above-average strength. However, since they have low speed, they usually only attack once. The obvious defensive role of knights is hindered by the fact that they tend to have lower resistance than most non-magic classes, which themselves often have low resistance; while their high HP does help mitigate this to an extent, their low speed can cause problems against the typical high speed of mage-type units. Though this is different in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, where the Armor Knight variations have highest Resistance among the non magical classes, surpassed only by Pegasus Knights. They also have lower movement and higher constitution than other classes. In many games, their build is conducive to them playing a defensive role, by shielding more fragile units or by forming a perimeter in defense-oriented maps.
In Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Knights were not able to change class; this was rectified from Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem onward, whereupon knights were connected into a new class change line with the General, which itself was in a similar situation in the NES Shadow Dragon; this remains the case in almost all of its appearances. In Fire Emblem Gaiden they are a second-tier advanced class; Villagers have the option of promoting to Soldiers, which promote to Knights, which in turn promote to the third-tier Baron class. In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Fates, in addition to the General, there is also the option of promoting them to Great Knight.

English |
• Knight |
• A contraction of the Japanese "Armorknight" name, likely under the assumption that the "armor" part is redundant given the renaming of Cavaliers from "Social Knight" and the lack of need to differentiate. |
English (unofficial) |
Used in the "Project Naga" fan translation to match up with Armored Axe, Armored Sword, and Armored Bow. Shortened as "Armr. Lance" in-game. | |
