Appearance(s)

Judith von Daphnel[3] (pronounced /ˈd͡ʒudɪθ vɑn ˈdæfnɛl/[key]; Japanese: ジュディット=フォン=ダフネル Judith von Daphnel) is a non-playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is the head of House Daphnel from the Leicester Alliance.

Biography

Judith is the head of House Daphnel. Prior to the events of the game, she used to be one of the Five Ruling Lords of the Alliance. However, she abdicated her seat in the Alliance's roundtable in favor of Margrave Edmund, who was recently rising in power. In the Golden Deer route, Judith appears briefly during Part I to pick up Claude and take him to the Alliance's Roundtable.

On the Azure Moon route, Judith, alongside Claude and Hilda, attempt to defend Derdriu from Lord Arundel and his Adrestian forces before being rescued by Dimitri and the Kingdom army. On the Verdant Wind route, she provides Claude reinforcements at Aillel, the Valley of Torment and accompanies the Leicester army as a travelling companion. On the Silver Snow route, Judith also provides reinforcements to Byleth in that same location, though unlike in Verdant Wind, she soon leaves and makes no further storyline appearances on that route; in both instances, Judith reveals that through her wide web of spies across Fódlan, she has learned Archbishop Rhea is being held somewhere in Adrestia's Imperial Palace. On the Crimson Flower route, Judith is the commander in charge of the defense of the Great Bridge of Myrddin along with a non-recruited Ignatz and Leonie. She is slain by Adrestian forces seeking to take access of the bridge and seize it.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Role

Judith is an NPC ally in Chapter 15 of the Verdant Wind and Silver Snow routes, Chapter 19 of the Azure Moon route, and a boss in Chapter 13 of the Crimson Flower route. In her appearance in Verdant Wind and Silver Snow Chapter 15, talking to her with Byleth/Claude grants the player an Energy Drop. On the Verdant Wind route, from Chapter 16 onwards she can be interacted with at the player's home base.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

Judith is a character set to appear in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. She was briefly shown in the reveal trailer as an opponent to Edelgard.

Personality

Judith has a casual and sarcastic attitude among her allies. Despite no longer being one of the Five Alliance Lords, she has no issues teasing and making fun of both Claude and Lorenz, giving the former the nickname "Leader Man". On the Crimson Flower route, she also shows disdain towards the idea of running away from the battlefield when the situation looks grim, though she eventually relents per Claude's orders when the empire shows to have the advantage.

Quotes

Battle quotes

It's no good...we're surrounded. But I need to hurry up and rescue the boy... To get to the harbor, first we have to get rid of the enemy mercenaries. There's no other way.
— Judith's battle quote as an NPC in Azure Moon Chapter 19.

Critical quotes

Past my prime? Never!
— Judith
And now you've made me mad!

— Judith

Defeat quotes

I guess my vision really is going! I slipped up... Don't get yourself killed out there, boy.
— Judith's death quote in Azure Moon Chapter 19.
Guh, it looks like I'm done for. Claude...I'm sorry...
— Judith's death quote in Crimson Flower Chapter 13.

Trivia

  • Due to the game lacking an unique sprite for NPCs units with the Lord class, Judith's map sprite uses the NPC's female Mercenary class sprite instead.
  • Judith has voiced lines in the game's data meant for monastery quests, which normally cannot be seen without hacking.
  • Unlike most of the female characters in Three Houses, Judith's character animations during cutscenes and monastery exploration are shared with the animations used by certain male characters, such as Ferdinand, Felix, Claude, Jeralt, etc. The other female character with this distinction is Catherine.

Judith von Daphnel

Full name, known by just Judith in most menus. "Judith" is a feminine given name derived from the Hebrew name יהודית Yehudit meaning "woman of Judea".[4] "Daphnel" may come from the given name Daphne, itself from the Greek mythological figure Daphne, a naiad who was the unwitting object of the god Apollo's affection.
