Why... Why did you lie to me, Father? I've had to endure so much pain... I wish I'd known the truth from the start. My father lied to me, Mist. He lied to build me into a heartless warrior, a soldier worthy of Daein.
—  Jill to Mist in their A support

Jill Fizzart (Japanese: ジル Jill) is a wyvern rider from Talrega, the daughter of Daein general Shiharam. She joins the army during the Mad King's War, but ends up fighting for the other side. In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, she returns to Daein to help rebuild her struggling country. She joins the Greil Mercenaries whilst they are aboard Nasir's ship and fighting the raven laguz as she had followed the troop from land. She originally joined them to help destroy the "sub-humans", but ended up staying with them throughout the war.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jill is the first wyvern knight and second flier to join the party. She has decent base strength, skill, and defense, and mediocre base speed. In her join chapter, she is doubled by the raven laguz but she also has a laguzguard equipped so she is bulky enough to contribute immediately. As a wyvern knight, she has high movement, can fly, and has canto, which are all immensely useful immediately and through the entire game, especially over the next few chapters which have water and desert. She uses lances, giving her 1-2 range combat, and can immediately use steel lances. It is recommended to give Jill some levels of BEXP immediately, since she has excellent long-term payoff thanks to her class and growths.

Jill has decent growths across strength, skill, and speed, so she will quickly grow into a strong offensive unit. This is complemented by her promotion, which lets her use axes; while she starts with E rank axes, she can still use hand and steel axes immediately. It is recommended to prioritize using axes, though lances are still useful because she'll have a higher lance rank and are better against sword-users. Her defense and resistance growths are about average; since she has a decent defense base and bad resistance base, she will continue to be physically bulky enough but weak to magic.

Jill has no base skills, but as a flier, she is flexible to work with most skills. Adept and Guard have decent activation rates thanks to her good skill. Savior is an invaluable skill on her if she is to regularly face combat while ferrying units like Ike. It is not recommended to teach her Stun with an Occult as stunning enemy units is rarely useful.

Jill has a thunder affinity which gives a defense and avoid boost, both useful for her survival. Mist has a water affinity which gives Jill +3 defense at A support, which is extremely useful for Jill but not as useful for Mist since she is a healer. They will have similar mobility when Mist promotes, though Mist does not fly. Lethe has a heaven affinity which gives only accuracy, which Jill appreciates when using axes, but her skill and forges often make it unnecessary. Haar has a wind affinity which gives light accuracy and avoid, complementing Jill's thunder affinity; furthermore, he is the same class as her, but he joins extremely late in the game.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jill is a dracoknight and the first and only permanent flier of Micaiah's team. As the only unit on the team with canto, high movement, and flight, she has the most important niche and role on the team despite being tier 1. Unlike pegasus knights, she is not weak to bows nor wind magic, and only vulnerable to thunder magic which is very rare. She has average bases in strength and skill, and good bases in speed, luck, and defense. While she is usable for combat, she is weighed down by most axes. Her accuracy is low due to axes and average skill. She is not as durable as one would expect, due to her low health and resistance bases. She is a unit that immediately improves drastically with a few levels of bonus experience, statboosters (especially the energy drop and dracoshield), an early promotion, or Path of Radiance transfers, so some combination of these is highly recommended immediately because of her irreplaceable role in her team. Note that an average PoR Jill only caps skill, but is a few points away from capping strength, speed, and defense, so PoR Jill needs a bit of good luck or some bands to hit these caps. It is also recommended to give Jill forges, especially in 1-E to prepare for part 3.

Jill has excellent growths in speed and luck, and enough growths in strength, skill, and resistance. She will easily cap speed and luck in tier 2 and on, giving her plenty of opportunities to patch her weaker growths. After promotion, she will quickly become the most powerful and important unit on the team. She is the only unit who has full mobility over ledges and swamps, terrain present in almost every chapter of Micaiah's team. Jill is the best user of the 3-6 Brave Axe; the only other user is Nolan who has the Tarvos. She is the best recipient of the 3-12 boots due to her class. As she is so important for Micaiah's team, it is not recommended to recruit her to Ike's team in part 3; to note, there is no loss in recruiting Jill in 3-E since she can contribute to Ike's team and is no longer committed to Micaiah's team in part 4. When promoted to tier 2, she can use lances, which can be nice for sword-users but are generally not necessary outside of the occasional Horseslayer use in part 4.

Jill works on any team in part 4 thanks to her amazing class, though she may be underlevelled and wants some BEXP or Paragon. As most units do not perform well on the desert, Jill works best on Micaiah's team, especially due to the abundance of crossbow users. However, she still performs extremely well on Ike's and Tibarn's team, so it is up to the player's discretion to decide if another dracoknight is needed on Micaiah's team or not. Jill is an excellent candidate for endgame thanks to hammer and urvan access, good speed cap, and flight and canto.

Jill has no skills upon joining, but as a flier, almost any skill benefits her significantly. She unfortunately does not have the capacity for any useful skills until she promotes to tier 2. She is the best user of Paragon, as she has the best long-term payoff out of Micaiah's entire team; keep in mind she is not available on chapter 1-8, so it is wise to assign Paragon to a different unit just for that chapter. Beastfoe is extremely helpful through part 3, though admittedly a bit overkill with a properly trained Jill. Jill can put Tauroneo's Resolve and Zihark's Adept to good use thanks to her excellent speed. She can put Fiona's Savior to good use too, though that skill is often better off passed to Ike's team due to lack of seize chapters for Micaiah's team after part 1. Tormod's Celerity is an excellent skill that amplifies her mobility even further, though it may be overkill since she can get the boots in part 3 anyways. Jill is such a pivotal versatile unit, that almost any other skill one can think of, she can use very well, so feel free to be creative!

Jill has a thunder affinity which boosts her defense and avoid. Earth affinity users like Nolan, Zihark, Volug, and Fiona all give more avoid, turning her into a better dodgetank, and also appreciate the light defense boost from her, though all of these earth affinity users benefit more from supporting each other than Jill. Micaiah herself gives Jill a small attack boost and more avoid, giving her +2 attack, +2 defense, and +15 avoid at A support. Unfortunately there are no other permanent fliers on Micaiah's team, so there is no unit that can fully keep up with her until part 4, where Jill has more options with good mounted fliers like Haar and Tanith.

Personality and character

Jill is first introduced as being highly prejudiced towards the Laguz race, as can be observed through her frequent articulation of the demeaning term "sub-human" when referring to members of the race. She reveals that she has been raised to believe that laguz are evil, where they are referred to as nothing more than "sub-humans" in the schools she once attended.[3] Jill then expresses a desire to remain with the army for a longer period of time, all in order to gain a better understanding of the laguz.

Battle quotes

Understood! I’m withdrawing at once!
— An unused quote intended to be Jill's escape quote in Path of Radiance.
A-hah! Cursed sub-human! How many true humans have you slain with those devilish fangs? As a Daein wyvern rider, it is my duty to purge this world of your monsterous evil!
— Jill, when fighting Lethe in chapter 11 of Path of Radiance.
... [...] You...you ugly sub-human scum! How dare you befoul the human tongue! You’re just half-breed filth!
— Jill, when fighting Mordecai in chapter 11 of Path of Radiance.
Father... [...] Father... I...
— Jill, when fighting Shiharam in chapter 20 of Path of Radiance.
What!!! It can’t be... Captain Haar?
— Jill, when fighting Haar in chapter 23 of Path of Radiance.
...My father died because of you. He tried so hard...to prove he was a loyal citizen of Daein. And you never recognized his efforts. Not even once. [...] Answer me! My father was General Shiharam! Why did he have to die? [...] What? [...] ...Ashnard... Ashnard!! ASHNARD!! I...will never forgive you! NEVER!!!
— Jill, when fighting Ashnard in the final chapter of Path of Radiance.
Yes. And then we became allies. And after that, friends. But now... [...] My goddess... You can be so cruel...
— Jill, when fighting Lethe in part 3 chapter 6 of Radiant Dawn.
I’m sorry, Mordecai. I won’t take your life, but I must take you out of this battle. Forgive me.
— Jill, when fighting Mordecai in part 3 chapter 6 of Radiant Dawn.
I’m sorry. I just don’t believe that Daein is in the right this time. Retreat now, Sothe. Daein has no business getting involved in this war. [...] Then I’ll be forced to stop you! Prepare yourself, Sothe!
— Jill, when fighting Sothe in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
I know I owe you all so much... And Mist would grieve if you fell. But I cannot retreat. I must stand my ground! [...] ...I am too, Commander Ike. Are you ready?
— Jill, when fighting Ike in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
Ilyana? You’re with the Laguz Alliance? No, I mean the Greil Mercenaries? [...] I see... We fought together in Ashnard’s War, and in the war to liberate Daein. We didn’t spend much time together, but you were a trustworthy comrade. [...] I don’t know. The occupation soldiers left Daein. But Daein still cannot refuse a request from Begnion. Liberation was only a dream. [...] Because I can’t abandon my comrades.
— Jill, when fighting Ilyana in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
I’m sorry, Lethe. I have to fight. I will do anything for my country...
— Jill, when fighting Lethe in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
My friends... It grieves me to meet again under these circumstances.
— Jill, when fighting any other character that appeared in Path of Radiance in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
Resistance is useless! Surrender now! The Daein army will never let you through!
— Jill, when fighting a character introduced in Radiant Dawn in part 3 chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn.
How did you know? [...] Yes, I remember... You were the one who negotiated to let my father’s men and their families stay in Begnion. [...] ...I’m so sorry. I’m sorry we have to meet under these circumstances. [...] No... I can’t. I know that this mission is terrible. Even so, I cannot abandon my comrades or my country.
— Jill, when fighting Sigrun in part 3 chapter 12 of Radiant Dawn.
I... [...] Sir Kieran... [...] I truly envy you. You fight with pride and loyalty in your heart. I wish I could do the same, these days...
— Jill, when fighting Kieran in part 3 chapter 12 of Radiant Dawn.
She is none of those things! Lady Micaiah fights for the people of Daein! [...] I-I can’t explain! We don’t have any choice in the matter!
— Jill, when fighting Tanith in part 3 chapter 12 of Radiant Dawn.
I’m sorry, Mist. There’s no way we can turn back now. [...] Mist...run. I won’t be expected to kill you if you just turn and run!
— Jill, when fighting Mist in part 3 chapter 13 of Radiant Dawn.
Sothe, I– [...] You’re right... Let’s just get past this.
— Jill, when fighting Sothe in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
General Tauroneo... [...] I’m sorry... I– [...] ... [...] I have not disgraced anything. I joined this army so I could avoid that.
— Jill, when fighting Tauroneo in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
Queen Nailah! You’re fighting for Daein now? [...] Very well, Queen Nailah. I don’t know why you’ve switched sides, but if it’s a fight you want, you’ve found one!
— Jill, when fighting Nailah in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
It’s all right, Your Majesty. I’d wrongly assumed that you had turned into a tyrant. Please forgive my desertion.
— Jill, when fighting Pelleas in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
General Ike! [...] No, I can’t. Don’t ask me about what’s happening in Daein. We are your enemies. Please treat us as such. This battle must happen.
— Jill, when fighting Ike in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I know. No matter how many times you experience it, you can never get used to it. But no, Ilyana, we can’t. I’m sorry.
— Jill, when fighting Ilyana in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I’m proud to have had a friend like you. Thank you for everything, Lethe. Hold nothing back!
— Jill, when fighting Lethe in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I apologize for targeting the apostle during the battle in the valley. We violated the code of chivalry. There is no excuse for our actions.
— Jill, when fighting Sigrun in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I understand. It doesn’t matter what I’ve done. It was all to protect my country and my people!
— Jill, when fighting Tanith in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
Mist. I don’t think there’s anything for us to talk about. We’re soldiers. Let’s leave it at that. [...] Come on, Mist. I’m going to fight, so you’ll want to defend yourself.
— Jill, when fighting Mist in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I don’t care who I have to fight! I’ll fight until the end for the glory of Daein!
— Jill, when fighting any other character that appeared in Path of Radiance in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
I am Daein’s dracoknight, Jill! I shall defeat you for the future of Daein!
— Jill, when fighting any other character that debuted in Radiant Dawn in part 3 final chapter of Radiant Dawn.
Strong, weak... It doesn’t matter. I fight on the side of my conscience, and have yet to regret my battles.
— Jill, when fighting Hetzel in part 4 final chapter-1 of Radiant Dawn.
You can stop right there! Daein will never bow down to you again!
— Jill, when fighting Lekain in part 4 final chapter-1 of Radiant Dawn.
It’s your fault what happened in Daein! Every pointless death in this war is on your head! Sephiran, Duke of Persis... History will remember you as the worst kind of man. [...] ... Die, monster!
— Jill, when fighting Sephiran in part 4 final chapter-4 of Radiant Dawn.

Trivia

  • Jill, along with her father, is one of the very few Fire Emblem characters to have a known last name, Fizzart.
  • In Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the player is given the option to have Jill defect to her father`s side should the player force Jill to fight her father. This marks the first time in Fire Emblem history an allied unit can defect to the enemy in the heat of battle.
  • In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Jill is the only first-tier female character who is able to wield axes before undergoing a Class Change. She remained the only unit in the series with this distinction until Fire Emblem Awakening introduced Cherche.
