Jeralt Eisner was originally a soldier of the Kingdom of Faerghus fighting alongside the Knights of Seiros, who were escorting Rhea. Jeralt was mortally wounded protecting Rhea from an attack, but Rhea saved his life by giving him a transfusion of her Crest-bearing blood. The transfusion granted him the Crest of Seiros and a significantly enhanced lifespan. Afterwards, Jeralt accepted a post as a Knight of Seiros, eventually rising to the rank of captain. During this period, an unnamed squire of his was killed by a plague, and Jeralt chose a monastery orphan named Alois to become his new squire due to his physical resemblance to the old squire. Eventually, Jeralt met and married Sitri and she became pregnant with a child. However, his wife died in childbirth, and Rhea claimed she was forced to sacrifice his wife to save the child. The newborn, Byleth, never cried or laughed and had no heartbeat, leading Jeralt to believe Rhea did something to them, although he never found out exactly what she did in his lifetime. Now deeply fearing Rhea, Jeralt took advantage of a fire to fake Byleth's death and flee the monastery. Jeralt spent the next 20 years wandering Fódlan as a mercenary and raising Byleth. During this period, he also encountered a villager from Leicester named Leonie Pinelli and took her as an apprentice.

Shortly before a mission to Faerghus, Jeralt and his mercenaries are approached by the nobles Edelgard von Hresvelg, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, and Claude von Riegan, who enlist his aid in driving off a group of bandits who attacked them. Afterwards, Alois discovers him and browbeats him into returning to Garreg Mach Monastery. He reunites with Rhea and reluctantly agrees to rejoin the Knights of Seiros in an advisory capacity. Over the next eight months, Jeralt goes on missions for the Knights of Seiros while Byleth accepts a post as a teacher at the Officers Academy at the monastery. Jeralt directly accompanies Byleth on a mission to Remire Village and aids them in subduing the villagers, who have been driven homicidally insane by the dark bishop Solon. Afterwards, he and Byleth are confronted by the Flame Emperor, a masked individual who has been launching attacks on the Church; the Flame Emperor denies involvement in the Remire massacre, but Jeralt does not believe them and unsuccessfully attempts to arrest them. The following month, Jeralt and Byleth are forced to slay several students who have been transformed into Demonic Beasts. In the aftermath, the assassin Kronya, disguised as a student named Monica von Ochs, stabs and mortally wounds him. Byleth attempts to use Divine Pulse to save him, but is sabotaged by Kronya and Solon's master Thales, and Jeralt dies in their arms.

Trivia

  • Jeralt is the narrator of the post-release trailers of Three Houses.
  • In Three Hopes, Jeralt can comment to Rhea about a battlefield from 300 years ago;[1] this could indicate that his encounter with Rhea happened during the Leicester revolt from the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, which occurred approximately 300 years before the events of the game.
