— Izuka

Izuka (Japanese: イズカ Izca) is a citizen of Daein and an advisor to Pelleas in Radiant Dawn.

Izuka created the drug for the Feral Ones.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Role

Izuka is a minor character in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He is the scientist who invented the formula that turns Laguz into Feral Ones. He is briefly seen in Chapter 28, where he releases several Feral Ones to defend the Tower of Gritnea and flees.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Role

Izuka ascends to become a major antagonist in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He has discovered the late King Ashnard's orphan son Pelleas and helped him raise the Daein Liberation Army to take the Daein throne and remove the corrupt Begnion occupation from the country. Izuka is initially suspicious of Micaiah when she arrives to join the Liberation Army, coming to the hasty conclusion that she intends to usurp the throne from Pelleas. However, after learning that she is the folk hero known as the Silver-Haired Maiden, he immediately demands she join them, hoping for her to serve as a figurehead for the revolution. During the war, he proves to be terribly incompetent in his role as a tactician; his plans show poor tactical judgement at best and flagrant disregard for ethical standards at worst. Micaiah soon ends up serving in his role for the remainder of the uprising.

After the Daein victory, Izuka, who is secretly allied with the corrupt Begnion senate, tricks Pelleas into signing a blood pact to keep Daein under Begnion's thumb. When Ashera petrifies the world, Izuka sides with her and is confronted by Tibarn and his group, potentially including Pelleas. He reveals that he lied to Pelleas all along; Pelleas was a random blue-haired orphan he found that he could claim to be Ashnard's child and use as a figurehead. Izuka summons several Feral Ones to attack, but Tibarn and his party overwhelm his forces and kill him.

Personality and character

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Izuka is a narcissistic sociopath with little regard for anyone besides himself. He holds particular disdain for the Laguz, who he believes are less then sentient. Izuka also possesses a largely over-inflated ego in his role as tactician of the Daein Liberation Army; he claims himself to be a genius despite repeatedly making blunders that would cost the rebellion many lives and/or popular support if Micaiah were not there to bail him out.

Battle quotes

Don't you see? If I am harmed, my knowledge will be lost! Can the human race survive such a tragedy? If you fools cannot see the larger picture, you will have to be destroyed!
— Izuka in Radiant Dawn.
Ah... You must be the hawk king! Understand that my work was never intended to harm the laguz, specifically!
— Izuka when fighting Tibarn in Radiant Dawn.
Elincia, the Crimean queen! Are you here to seek revenge?
— Izuka when fighting Elincia in Radiant Dawn.
How could you not see the importance of my beloved research? That was my life's work!
— Izuka when fighting Ranulf in Radiant Dawn.
Don't you see? If I am harmed, my knowledge will be lost! Can the human race survive such a tragedy? If you fools cannot see the larger picture, you will have to be destroyed! [...] Don't be too rash! If you kill me, Crimea will surely suffer!
— Izuka when fighting Lucia in Radiant Dawn.
They've broken through my Feral Ones! I must create more!
— Izuka when fighting Geoffrey in Radiant Dawn.
Have a care, Crimean count! If my knowledge dies, so does your only hope of saving that man! [...] Ah, my noble count! You are most merciful! [...] Y-you monster! What you suggest is unconscionable!
— Izuka when fighting Bastian in Radiant Dawn.
Ah, my dear prince Pelleas! Excuse me, King Pelleas! I'd assumed that you had been turned to stone. How nice to see you again! But I am saddened to see that you would betray me and fight alongside these shortsighted fools! I found you and set you on the path to royalty! I served you well, did I not? [...] So you found out. Very well. At least I don't need to pretend anymore. It isn't like you will spare my life, anyway. [...] Betrayal? What of your betrayal of me? I remember well how you valued one worthless laguz life over mine! It was your betrayal that forced me to abandon my work! You were supposed to be my puppet, a weakling boy-king that I could control, giving me free reign! [...] Oh, princeling boy, how completely I've fooled you... You are not King Ashnard's son. All I did was look for a boy that could pass for the king's son. [...] Ah yes, Lady Almedha, paragon of sanity! She is certainly fit to identify a boy she hasn't seen in fifteen years. She was so desperate to have her son again that she would have believed anything I told her.
— Izuka when fighting Pelleas in Radiant Dawn.
The sub-humans are perfect subjects! What could be wrong with using them?
— Izuka when fighting Zihark in Radiant Dawn.
You! You're... [...] Feral Ones! Kill him! Do it now!
— Izuka when fighting Volke in Radiant Dawn.
Hm, a heron. I was disappointed with the results of my heron trials. Your frail bodies succumb to the poisons too quickly.
— Izuka, if spoken to with Reyson in Radiant Dawn.

Death quote

Aaaargh! But my work...is still...incomplete...
— Izuka in Radiant Dawn.

Trivia

  • Izuka's name is likely taken from Daisuke Izuka, who is a graphic designer for the Fire Emblem series, including Radiant Dawn. Notably Izuka is one of the few characters in the game with a name from modern day Japan.
  • In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, when Izuka gets attacked while he has the Rewarp staff equipped, his battle animation will show the staff moving around on its own. This seems to suggest that Izuka possesses some form of telekinesis.
