Hríd (Japanese: フリーズ Hríð) is a character appearing in Fire Emblem Heroes. He is the second-eldest of the four royal siblings of Nifl,[1] and its only prince.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

Hríd is first mentioned during Part 5 of Chapter 9 of Book II, and only then by the older of his surviving sisters, Fjorm, detailing their family and explaining how they got scattered. He is later mentioned in part 5 of the following chapter, in which Laegjarn and Laevateinn reveal that he had escaped Múspell's forces again despite wounds.

Hríd finally makes a physical appearance in Chapter 11, where he finds himself needing to be rescued by the Order of Heroes, including both of his surviving sisters, and reveals that he's attempted to kill Surtr by himself even if it cost him his life, but found himself burned; Hríd reveals that, according to information given to him by Zacharias, the Order needs to head for the Rite of Flames and extinguish the flames that fuel them. Later on in the chapter, he leads the Order of Heroes into Burnt-Bone Gorge, a secret route to the Rite of Flames supposedly unknown by Múspell; after the group winds up ambushed, Hríd deduces that someone among the Order of Heroes could potentially be a traitor in league with Múspell.

There are two different variations of Hríd available to Heroes, both of which are tied to his storyline appearance in Heroes. The normal variation of Hríd is the game's thirteenth Legendary Hero, and the third one to be a character original to Heroes after the two elders among his sisters; this variation of Hríd was made available for summoning as part of a summoning event released on November 28, 2018, and is the first Heroes-original Legendary Hero to be added in a dedicated Legendary Hero update, as Fjorm was added in the version 2.0 update (which added the first two chapters of Book II) and Gunnthrá was added in the Happy New Year! update. A New Year's-themed variation of Hríd was made available between the period of January 1, 2019 through February 1, 2019 as part of the summoning event surrounding the New Year's Wish update.

Trivia

  • Hríd's position among his siblings appears to be disputed among official sources; Heroes states him to be the second-oldest of the siblings with Gunnthrá being the eldest,[1] but some supplementary material states him to be the oldest of the four.[2]
