The Horseman (Japanese: ホースメン Horseman) is an advanced, horse-mounted class which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. They are a bow- and sword-wielding class and, from Mystery of the Emblem onward, are the promoted form of the Hunter class. Horsemen are present only in the four Archanea games, with other games in the Fire Emblem series instead featuring various identical classes under different names.
Compared to their fellow advanced archery class, the Sniper, the Horseman's key advantage is the significantly greater movement it gains from being a mounted class, as well as, in the DS games, having access to swords in case of close-range attacks. They are slightly less sturdy than their Sniper cousins, with a tendency toward lower HP, defense and resistance in exchange for slightly better strength. In Mystery of the Emblem, they are less affected by dismounting than other mounted classes as they are able to continue using bows without needing to worry about switching to a different weapon type.
