“ | I'm Hicks, proud Axe Knight of Munster! An' after what Raydrik's done, he's sure worn out his hospitality! Whaddaya say I team up with you an' we teach him some manners?! | ” | — Hicks in Chapter 6 |

Hicks (Japanese: ヒックス Hicks) is a minor playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is an axe knight from Munster.
Biography
Hicks's son, Mafy, was kidnapped as part of the child hunts and locked in the dungeon in Munster keep to later be sent to Grannvale. Hicks lived in the nearby town but was unable to recover his son by himself. However, Leif and Ced were able to rescue him. During Leif's escape from the city Munster, Hicks decided to come along for the opportunity to take down Raydrik.
Hicks accompanies Leif's liberation army until at least the liberation of Munster. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's is unknown, as he does not appear in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

Role
Hicks is a playable character. In Chapter 6, he appears in the north-center house. If Mafy successfully escaped in Chapter 4x, Hicks can be recruited by visiting the house.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Hicks joins toward the end of the Munster escape arc, and is useful there. Since he is a mounted unit, it is easy to escape with him, as long as the map is outdoors. He is quite durable, with 8 base defense and 30 base HP, so he can take hits. He joins with the Poleax, allowing him to one-round the Cavaliers in his joining chapter and in Chapter 7, though those in Chapter 7 have Rapiers, posing a potential risk to Hicks. Finally, his constitution is high enough to wield heavy axes without losing much speed.
That said, Hicks quickly falls behind. On indoor maps, he is stuck with E-rank swords and receives dismount stat penalties. These disadvantages prevent him from doing much of note if a map is indoors. On outdoor maps, he can still contribute, but many other units outshine him. Hicks has no skills, a mediocre FCM of 2, and mediocre base stats for his level. He faces accuracy issues quite often (though can grow out of these with his decent skill and high luck growths) and struggles to double some enemies without investment to improve his speed. His growths are not the highest, either. He can equip Crusader Scrolls to improve his growth rates, and he is not that difficult to train. However, there are better investment candidates with more to offer once trained.
Overall, Hicks is best used as a temporary utility unit. He is helpful at the end of the Munster escape arc, as a mounted unit with decent stats and an effective weapon, and is a decent filler unit for the next few chapters. After that, though, most players rarely deploy him. He can grow into a solid combat unit through the use of Crusader Scrolls, particularly the Ced Scroll, but there are better candidates.
Personality
Hicks has little dialogue and is a fairly nondescript character. It is evident that he deeply cares for his son Mafy.
Endings
Hicks, Father and Axeman
Declining a government post, Hicks instead returned home to his family, where he led a quiet life. But even when working, he always kept his trusty axe close at hand. He is said to be ever vigilant, constantly keeping watch for danger.
