Gwendal is a minor antagonist appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is a knight in service to House Rowe of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus.
Biography
Gwendal is a knight in service to House Rowe of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Roughly four years prior to the start of the game, Sylvain tried to involve himself with Gwendal's daughter; he had to be placated by Ingrid. In the game proper, he follows House Rowe throughout the war between the Adrestian Empire and the rest of Fódlan. On the Crimson Flower route, House Rowe remains loyal to the Kingdom, and he is one of the commanders in defense of Fort Arianrhod alongside Cornelia, Rodrigue, and non-recruited Felix and Ingrid. On all other routes, House Rowe betrays the Kingdom for the Empire, and he pursues Byleth and their allies to the Valley of Torment to prevent them from receiving reinforcements. In both cases, he fights Byleth and their forces, but is killed in battle.

Personality and character
Gwendal is utterly devoted to House Rowe, and any attempts to impugn his character on this basis fall on deaf ears. He is described as stubborn and unwilling to compromise. He is also oddly eager to find a good place to die honorably as a knight on non-Crimson Flower routes, and outright thanks Byleth and co. as he is slain. According to Ingrid, he has a daughter whom he is very protective of; he was apparently furious when Sylvain tried to hit on her.

Dimitri: How dare you? You are nothing but a lowly beast scavenging for scraps. You have forgotten the dignity of knighthood. Gwendal: I may be lowly, but this beast is devoted to his master. Dimitri: Ha! Then I had better kill the pet and deliver its head to that master... |
