Guard (Japanese: 守護 Guard) is a combat skill which is exclusive to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It is a personal skill that can be equipped to any unit. If a unit with this skill is adjacent to a unit with whom they have a buddy support relationship, Guard's user may redirect hits aimed at the adjacent unit to themselves. The stronger the support relationship between the unit and the user, the more likely it is that Guard will trigger.

There is also a second, hidden version of Guard, internally called "Absolute Guard", which is used by four enemy Spirits in the game's penultimate map who surround the map's boss. This version of the skill is always guaranteed to activate, meaning that these Spirits must be killed first before the boss can be successfully attacked.

Trivia

  • The basic concept of this skill later resurfaced in Awakening as Dual Guards, part of the Dual and Pair Up systems, where a unit's supporting partner can jump in to take a hit for them. The function is slightly different in that if a Dual Guard is triggered, the damage is nullified, and having a support level is no longer necessary for it to activate.
