The Great Lord (Japanese: マスターロード Master Lord; グレートロード Great Lord in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade) is an advanced class which debuted in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, and is the most common advanced form of the Lord class. In the majority of its appearances it is the advanced class of all Lord characters to appear in the games in question; the exception is Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, where it is only Hector's advanced class, with Eliwood and Lyn getting Knight Lord and Blade Lord respectively. In Fire Emblem Fates, it also appears as the exclusive class of the amiibo-delivered bonus character Lucina.

Owing to its comparable status as a personal class for specific characters, and the different traits of the characters in question, the Great Lord's stats typically vary from game to game. Whereas Hector's version is reminiscent of the General in its possession of higher Strength and Defense at the expense of Speed, Eirika and Ephraim's versions in The Sacred Stones have more in common with the Paladin as a mounted class. The versions employed by Roy, Chrom and Lucina in The Binding Blade and Awakening are more balanced and loosely resemble the Hero class. As a general rule, all incarnations of the Great Lord are very competent and powerful classes.

Much as the statistical builds of the class vary on a personalized level, so too do the weapons to which they have access. Roy and Eirika both wield only swords, Ephraim wields only lances, Hector wields axes with swords as a secondary weapon, and Chrom and Lucina wield swords and lances. No incarnation of the Great Lord has ever wielded bows or magic.

Trivia

  • In Awakening, the Great Lord carries a shield on its left arm. For Chrom, this shield is the Fire Emblem, and accordingly changes as its orbs are collected and disappears entirely for the few chapters in which it has been stolen by Validar. Lucina's shield is a larger version of the mask she wore in her "Marth" guise.
  • Lucina's battle sprite and model in Fates actually depicts her as a regular Lord, though her class is Great Lord.
