Gradivus
| ||||||
|
Gradivus (Japanese: グラディウス Gladius) is a regalia lance introduced in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. It is one of the Three Regalia of the holy kingdom of Archanea, known by the epithet "the lance that pierces stone",[1] and is the sister weapon of Mercurius and Parthia.
History
Gradivus was stolen from its unidentified origin by the thief Adrah, and in conjunction with Mercurius and Parthia as a valuable asset in his conquering of the land, allowing him to ultimately establish the Kingdom of Archanea. Upon the kingdom's foundation and Adrah's appointment as its first king, Gradivus was named one of its three Regalia, and was passed down through the generations of Archanean royalty; with the other Regalia, it took on a mythical status in Archanean culture, claimed by some to be usable only by those blessed by the gods.[1]
In Archanea's fall to Dolhr at the beginning of the War of Shadows, Gradivus was stolen from the capital in its fall and was adopted by Camus of the Sable Order, who continued to wield it throughout the war until his "death" at the hands of Prince Marth's army. After the War of Shadows, Gradivus somehow ended up in Valentia in the possession of the Duma Faithful, where it was taken by Celica and used in the battle against Duma. Afterwards, Gradivus was returned to the possession of the kingdom and adopted by Hardin himself for use against the Altean army in the War of Heroes. The lance was taken from Hardin following his death.

Trivia
- In Shadow Dragon, Gradivus has the highest might of any weapon in the game. In New Mystery of the Emblem, however, it is surpassed by Hauteclere. In both Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Mystery of the Emblem it has the highest might of all lances and ties with several other weapons for having the highest might of any overall weapon; in the former it is in a four-way tie with the Devil Axe, Aura and the Earthstone, and in the latter is in a six-way tie with Mercurius, the Devil Axe, Parthia, Pachyderm and Aura.
