Glory Unwanted (Japanese: 望まぬ英名 Undesired Glory) is the eighth chapter of Part I of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In this chapter, Micaiah and her army rush in to save Daein prisoners, only to be ambushed by Begnion soldiers.

Plot

Main articles: Glory Unwanted/Script and Glory Unwanted/Conversations

Numida summons Jarod to a chamber in Daein Keep, and informs him that the apostle has sent an inspection team to Daein. Numida plans to meet with Duke Gaddos ahead of time to ask him to hide evidence of their wrongdoings. Jarod later speaks with Alder, noting that the plan will be impossible if the Daein Liberation Army meets with the inspection team. He plans to lure the army to Shifu Swamp by spreading rumors of a mass execution.

Meanwhile, Micaiah uses her Sacrifice to heal a wounded Daein soldier. A prisoner then comes in, alerting her of the supposed mass execution. Izuka correctly surmises that it is a trap, though Micaiah still refuses to allow the possibility of it. To keep the rest of the army safe, she intends to bring only her old friends alongside her, rather than any Daein troops. Izuka urges her to stop, though Pelleas interjects, and asks him to allow her to act on her own.

At Shifu Swamp, the Begnion commander Radmin gives his minions the command to push several civilians into the swamp itself. Micaiah and Sothe soon arrive, announcing that she will save the prisoners. However, Radmin calls for reinforcements, who surround the two. Sothe then gives the call for Tormod, Muarim, and Vika to come out of the shadows, and Micaiah soon after gives the same command to Nailah and Volug. Rafiel appears as well to help the latter two with his galdr of vigor. The battle proper then begins.

After defeating the ambushers, the army makes their way back to camp. Before they reach it, they see a crowd cheering for their latest victory, proclaiming Micaiah as their savior and calling her the "Priestess of Dawn". Micaiah reluctantly waves to them, and they cheer even more fervently. After arriving at camp, Sothe meets Micaiah alone. Before they can converse, however, Tormod comes to bring them to Muarim, who appears to be turning into a Feral One. As the situation looks grim, Rafiel appears and sings the galdr of rebirth, restoring Muarim to his normal state. Micaiah, unfamiliar with the song, begins feeling strange. The topic of the Feral Ones is brought up to Pelleas, and Izuka reveals that they were his "brilliant" and "splendid" creations. Tormod and Micaiah begin protesting him, though Pelleas stops them and apologizes on Izuka's behalf. Enraged by Izuka, Tormod runs off.

Meanwhile in Begnion, Senator Lekain reveals the actions of Jarod's army to Sanaki, and Numida apologizes and asks her to aid in freeing Daein. Lekain volunteers to be part of her inspection team, but she refuses, stating she will instead appoint Sephiran, Duke Persis, to the task. After Sanaki leaves, Numida is seen flustered at her actions.

Beginning log

Laguz warriors led by Tormod join the escaped prisoners, and Daein's army grows ever larger. Its victories at Talrega and other key locations have strengthened its position. The army rides across the land, liberating prisoners from Begnion encampments. The Daein ranks swell with the influx of veteran soldiers, and the men begin to dream of the day when they may retake the capital. Like a fever, conflict grips the nation. The night will be long before this fever breaks. All eyes turn toward Daein's capital as the liberation begins what all believe will be a long and bloody march.
