Role

In the final chapter, Repatriation, Giffca is one of the three units that Ike can choose as backup to help defeat Mad King Ashnard. This is the only point in the game when he is playable. Once Daein is finally defeated, Giffca and the other laguz forces return to their respective nations, not playing a major role again until the events of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Giffca is an endgame laguz that the player can pick out of three during the last chapter and is one of few units able to damage Ashnard. He can equip the Laguz Band, so he can always stay transformed. He has high base stats all around, and one-rounds generic enemies with high avoid and bulk. He has high movement, though no canto nor flight. Due to his status, enemy units cannot land any crits on him without Wrath.

Among the mutually exclusive endgame laguz, Giffca is the most powerful and durable, but Tibarn and Naesala both fly. As Giffca joins mid-chapter, the player cannot remove or assign skills. Giffca also has no support partners. He is most valuable for cleaning up generic enemies or helping defeat Ashnard, especially if the player's Ike is weak. Note that on Hard Mode, Giffca will not be available for Ashnard's first form, so the player will still need to rely on Ike, Ena, or Nasir.

Note that if Giffca is picked, he joins at level 20 with capped strength, so he will automatically give Radiant Dawn Giffca a strength transfer.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Giffca is a lion laguz available in endgame. Giffca is not a laguz royal so he cannot shift and attack on the same turn like other royals, but he comes with his own set of Laguz Gems so he can stay transformed for entire battles. He has the highest base attack power in the game after Caineghis, with extremely high strength and capped strike rank. He has a respectable skill and speed base, able to double all endgame units except for Ashera's auras on harder difficulties and hit very accurately. With these factors, Giffca is one of very few units in endgame that can one-round almost all endgame units at base. He has very high health and defense bases, though his resistance base is mediocre which hurts him with the abundance of magic enemies, especially against fire if his Nullify is removed. Note that in Path of Radiance, if the player picks Giffca as the endgame laguz, Radiant Dawn Giffca gets a free strength transfer, giving him +4 attack which greatly benefits him.

Giffca only has 4 levels to grow, so his growths are not as significant. He benefits from leveling via BEXP, because he has a high speed growth and will often cap it, allowing him to double the endgame auras. His other highest growths are strength, skill, and health, which will likely grow from BEXP, helping him for endgame. As Giffca is more likely to gain speed than Caineghis and be able to double Ashera's Auras, this makes him the best unit for taking on the endgame auras.

Giffca has innate Nullify which protects him from fire magic. While this is useful due to his poor resistance, his durability is generally high enough to take a few fire hits, so Nullify can be put to better use on other units like Seraph Knights or Hawks. He knows Roar already, which activates frequently due to his high strength and low biorhythm variance.

Giffca has a dark affinity, giving an attack and avoid boost. As he does not have many chapters to build a strong support, a C support is most realistic. Caineghis has the same availability and class as Giffca and gives extra avoid, helping them dodge magic units and also gain +1 attack. Other leftover units that give attack or avoid that also want attack or avoid will work as partners for Giffca.

Quotes

Death quotes

The power of Daein’s king has filled me with despair... It is more than I’d imagined... I beg your leave... I must...tell the king...
— Giffca, in Path of Radiance.
I have served...to the end... There is no greater glory than to have fought for King Caineghis...
— Giffca, in Radiant Dawn.

Battle quotes

Your strength, King of Daein, even with your medallion, is not sufficient. That is why I am here. If I fail to stop you today, then your next opponent will be our king. But first, this imposter will measure your fighting prowess.
— Giffca, when fighting Ashnard in Path of Radiance.

Trivia

  • Giffca uses a royal strike in Radiant Dawn despite not himself being royalty.
  • Strangely, in the American and PAL versions of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Giffca's transformed class was named "Giffca" instead of the normal "Lion". The class description is unique to him as well. His non-transformed class is still "Lion," however.
