Gargoyle

The Gargoyle (Japanese: ガーゴイル Gargoyle) is a monster class that originates in Fire Emblem Gaiden and returns in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. In all of its appearances, it is an enemy-only class. Gargoyles are flying beasts that attack fiercely and often in groups. In Gaiden, gargoyles don't have an assigned weapon type, though their animation depicts them attacking with a scythe; the scythe becomes its monster weapon of choice in Echoes. In The Sacred Stones, they use lances, making them similar to the playable Pegasus Knight or Wyvern Rider classes. Like the aforementioned classes, gargoyles are also weak to bows, and the Wind Sword.
The more powerful variant of Gargoyles, and thus the "promoted" version, is the Deathgoyle; as in all games gargoyles appear in, they are unable to actually promote, but it is considered a promotion due to similarity between the classes and an increase in power.

Trivia
- In Fire Emblem Gaiden, gargoyles and Deathgoyles are depicted as wielding scythes in their battle sprites, despite that scythes do not exist as a proper weapon type in that game, or in any other game in the Fire Emblem series. The scythe becomes their monster weapon of choice in Echoes.

Gargoyle |
"Gargoyles" are statues or carved faces of usually animal-like and sometimes grotesque figures built on the roofs of buildings such as churches and castles. Their practical purpose is to draw away water, but also to ward off evil. [1] The practice of putting gargoyles on buildings comes from the legend of the gargouille, a water-spouting dragon that terrorized France. The archbishop of Rouen, Saint Romain, lured it into town where it was slaughtered and burned. However, its neck and head did not burn, so they were hung on the cathedral to show the power of God. |
