Not to be confused with the character Galle from The Binding Blade, the character Gair from Genealogy of the Holy War, or the Staggering Blow Gale.
Gail (Japanese: ガイルGail) is the leader of a group of ruffians known as the Macedonian Vikings and the boss of chapter 4 of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem Book 2 and its remake, New Mystery of the Emblem. Gail and his vikings stand in the way of both Marth and his band as well as Ogma escorting the Grustianprince and princess on their approaches toward Wendell's location. Even with the aid of reinforcements, Gail and his vikings end up defeated, not just by Marth, Ogma, and their respectve companions, but also a mysterious traveler.
Gahahaha! Won't be long now 'til my boys, hidden in the forts, all spring out 'n' attack. I can almost see the precious looks on their bewildered faces!
As a minor boss, Gail does not get much screentime, but his dialogue indicates despite being captain of a ruthless and feared viking gang, he fears dying in battle against Altea. Gail considers surrendering, but decides Marth would not show mercy and decides to go out fighting.
In the remake, Gail believes his reinforcements will turn the side against Altea by via a surprise attack.[1]

Please spare me! Wait, that’s useless... No choice... I'm going to chop your head off!!
Gail's battle dialogue is changed in some fan translations; instead of considering pleading for mercy before deciding he won't receive any, Gail pretends to ask for mercy only to reveal it was just a trick to make his opponent lower their guard.

English (unofficial)
• Gile • Guile
• Used in the Mystery of the Emblem fan translation. • Used in the New Mystery of the Emblem fan translation patch. May have been changed for the patch due to "Gail" being viewed far more as a feminine name in modern times, and thus inappropriate for a male character. Guile is probably best known as the name of a famous male character from the Street Fighter series.
Japanese
ガイル
Officially romanized as Gail. One of a number of shortened forms of the feminine biblical name "Abigail", originating from the Hebrew אֲבִיגַיִל / אֲבִיגָיִל; the biblical Abigail was most well known as the third wife of King David. Although the actual spelling "Gail" was more commonly used for both genders prior to the 1930s, it eventually lost favor in male usage and became increasingly used as a feminine-specific spelling. Contrary to the name's modern feminine connotations, this particular Gail is a male character.
