The Fugue Shield (Japanese: フーガ家の盾 Fuga Family's Shield) is an accessory item in the shield category of equipment that debuted in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It is the target of the sub-quest "Taken Treasure: Grieth's Vault", where it has been taken from its owner, Lord Fugue, by a burglar working for Grieth. Returning it to Lord Fugue in Zofia Harbor earns the player a Golden Apple and 300 renown. Alternatively, the player may keep it and use it in battle, where it gives its user modest boosts to both defensive stats, as well as more combat arts than ordinary shields.

History

The Fugue Shield is a family heirloom belonging to House Fugue, a well-known noble house in Zofia. In the year 401, a burglar serving Grieth broke into the Fugue household and stole the shield, which was then taken to Grieth's Citadel. Lord Fugue hired Celica to retrieve the shield from Grieth during her campaign into his desert territory.[1]

Trivia

  • The Fugue Shield can also be presented to Lord Rion in Zofia Castle if the player does not have the Rion Shield. The Rion and Fugue houses are enemies, so doing this will enrage Lord Rion.[2]
  • Like the Rion Shield, the Fugue Shield is a recolored Silver Shield with a different pattern.

  1. "I'm the head of the Fugue family. Surely you're familiar with the name? Recently, a thief stole into our home and took an heirloom—a shield. It bears the family crest, and has been handed down for generations. It's irreplaceable, and if not retrieved, it will be a black mark on our honor. The burglar in question is in Grieth's employ. I'm certain the Fugue Shield is languishing in his vault about now. The cur will likely sell it to a foreign, buyer, after which it will be lost forever. You've the look of warriors about you. Impressive, to a man! Might I enlist your help in retrieving the Fugue Shield from Grieth? You'll be well rewarded, of course. Fugues are known for our generosity." — Lord Fugue, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
  2. "This shield bears the crest of the Fugue family—our sworn enemies! A pox on those dastards! Even looking upon this sets my blood to boil!" — Lord Rion, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
