Foreseer is the sixth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the Shepherds must protect Emmeryn from an assassination attempt led by Validar. Several important plot points come into play in this chapter.

Plot

Main article: Foreseer/Script

Late at night, Robin finds Chrom standing around the castle; Chrom states that the group will march to Regna Ferox tomorrow to request more soldiers, but also reveals that he has been thinking about Ylisse's past: Chrom's father, the previous exalt of Ylisse, waged a war against Plegia that devastated both countries. Their father died when Emmeryn was still young, but she became the exalt and worked to bring about an end to the war, refusing to resent Ylisse's people for their initial hatred of her. Chrom consideres the Emmeryn embodiment peace, and is disgusted at how Gangrel would take advantage of that. Marth appears, and claims Emmeryn's life is in danger; Marth states he's from a future where Emmeryn was killed on this night, and intends to prove it. He quickly defeats an assassin that emerges from the brush behind. A second assassin surprises Marth, and he dodges, but his mask gets cut, revealing long hair and the face of a woman. Chrom defeats the second assassin, then surprisedly remarks on "Marth" being a woman. An explosion is then heard from the direction of the palace, and Chrom, Marth, and Robin run in its direction.

Validar orders the assassins to retrieve the Fire Emblem and kill Emmeryn. One of the thieves, Gaius, overhears the conversation, and struggles to accept killing her. Chrom yells out to Emmeryn, who asks him to flee, but he refuses and tells her to stay in the room where she is protected. Validar notices that Chrom is unharmed and that some of the people present "do not belong on this stage"; he then notices Robin and remarks on his good fortune. Marth's Falchion begins to gleam, though she does not explain why. As the battle begins, Emmeryn pleads with Chrom to flee, that she does not want anyone defending her to die doing so.

During the battle, a taguel named Panne enters the area, soliloquizing that she slipped in with the rogues and that she intends to repay her warren's debt and then wash her hands of humans. Marth states that Panne is not their enemy, and Chrom orders the Shepherds to let Panne be. Later in battle, Gaius convinces Chrom he's not there to hurt anyone, and he'll prove his good intentions by joining with Chrom and disclosing any information he has on Emmeryn's assailants, at first in exchange for gold, then for a bag of candy Chrom drops during their interaction.

Once the battle ends, Emmeryn thanks Chrom for protecting her; Phila begs Chrom for his forgiveness for failing to prevent the assassins from entering the castle. Chrom reassures Phila that it was Marth alone who could have known of these assassins, though when asked about Marth, Chrom realizes she has disappeared. Chrom intercepts Marth as she exits the castle and, thankful for all she has done, asks Marth if there's anything he can do for her. Marth declines and states that a bad future has been averted: one where the assassins succeeded and the Fire Emblem was stolen, leading to a great war and the end of mankind. Chrom, trusting Marth, hopes to someday repay her favors regardless.

Inside the castle, Emmeryn thanks Panne for her part in fighting the assassins, though Panne is apprehensive toward humans. Panne reveals that she is the last of the taguel, that she only helped to fulfill a debt her warren owes Ylisse, and that humans hunted her kind to near-extinction. Emmeryn apologizes to Panne, who finds Emmeryn's words sincere and is willing to give Emmeryn the chance to earn her trust. Elsewhere, Validar, dying and lamenting his defeat, is confronted by a shadowy figure claiming to be the power that compels him, and that Validar will not die; the figure identifies himself as "the fell dragon Grima". Inside the castle, Chrom accuses Plegia of the attacks and requests Emmeryn leave to Ferox for her safety. Emmeryn refuses on the grounds that doing so would leave the people undefended and without a leader, but accepts Frederick's suggestion of leaving for the hidden eastern palace. Chrom offers to escort her there before leaving for Ferox.

Summary

Marth warns Chrom that Exalt Emmeryn will be assassinated. The plot is thwarted, but Marth is revealed to be a woman—and one with knowledge of the future.
