Revision as of 10:22, 31 July 2013

This will be a Community Page... We need to pretty it up.

Skype Group

If you want up-to-date discussions about FE Wiki, add zt-yusei (Yusei's skype handle), malake256, or tacopill and tell them you are from FE Wiki.. Add them and they will add you to the group.

As time goes on, there are more active people in the Skype group. It may be more useful to ask hyperllamalord, brandedone13 or seritinajii if you'd like to join. We'd love to have you chat with us. :) BrandedOne 07:03, 20 July 2011 (EDT)

Misc Discussions

Sacred Stones

Any Sacred Stones players and fans out there? (Is this how this'll work?) Seritinajii 20:24, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

Well unless we want to make a forum for this, this mostly will be something like finding Wiki news and such. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 09:13, 19 September 2010 (MDT)

I vote we make a forum. Ostia is a central part of the Lycian League and hence a lot of social activity. Plus, I'd rather not spend a ton of time discussing this wiki besides on this wiki or via email. And as I noted on my chat page I'm a huge Sacred Stones player as well as Blazing Sword Strategex 16:25, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

I agree with that statement. Being wiki's discussion pages are about the wiki itself, while community pages are about content related discussions, articles, periodicals, etc. and not idle chit-chat. Tacopill 09:10, 7 October 2010 (MDT).
If you want to have forums... I could upload em, but I don't have my computer. Using my boyfriend's computer right now. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 16:43, 13 October 2010 (MDT)

Forums

Should we get our own forums for the FEW? We can also discuss about FE on the forums. Just if we approve it I'll ask a friend to upload it for me since I don't have a computer. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 16:40, 16 October 2010 (MDT)

Support

  1. I'm for it. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 16:40, 16 October 2010 (MDT)
  2. Support~! It would be pretty simple, hopefully, and this page would probably get clogged up if used too much... Seritinajii 20:50, 16 October 2010 (MDT)
  3. Support! The Ostia Square Forums! I like it! I think it could also attract more members to fill the wiki. Strategex 21:57, 16 October 2010 (MDT)
  4. Support. I agree with Seritinajii's points. Aria der Donau 11:57, 21 October 2010 (MDT)
  5. Can't say i'll be active, but i am in support. Tacopill 20:55, 21 October 2010 (MDT).
  6. Forums FTW! SuperAlpaca 19:58, 14 November 2010 (MST)

Oppose

Neutral/Undecided

So we agree on this?

If we do I'll put up some forums later... I'm not sure if my boyfriend's computer can handle it. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 13:54, 25 October 2010 (MDT)

A couple of objective suggestions

  • First off, there's a typo in your interwiki data for SmashWiki -- two slashes.
  • Your sitenotice was causing the text to be bumped around in weird ways for me as a logged-out user. Admittedly my computer and monitor are running behind standard right now, but I just thought you should be aware.
  • One of your anti-spambot questions has a rather obvious error -- there are two Smash games with Marth, yes, but "both" is incorrect as there are three Smash games, one of which contains no Fire Emblem material whatsoever.
  • I mentioned this to the staff on NIWA, but I recommend adapting content from SmashWiki's help section; especially important are things like a privacy policy and a general disclaimer, as these are linked to on the bottom of every page.

Beyond that, I guess all I have to say is good luck on your NIWA application! Miles (talk) 16:51, 25 March 2011 (MDT)

Thanks for the input, Miles! We've taken care of the interwiki typo and the inaccuracy of the anti-spambot question. As far as the sitenotice goes, I logged out to investigate, and everything seemed normal to me :/ I've put the help section, disclaimer and privacy policy on my to do list, so those will get done as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help, and for the good luck wishes! BrandedOne 20:10, 26 March 2011 (MDT)
Regarding the sitenotice glitches when logged out: 1 2. Admittedly I'm still running IE7, but it's still worth pointing out. Miles (talk) 09:21, 27 March 2011 (MDT)
We cannot fix such an issue with IE7. The skin is designed off of Vector, while the other is based on Monobook. So in order to fix that, we'd need to copy or alter coding from monobook into Vector. I'm sorry, but the best to do is to upgrade your browser to a compatible one such as Google Chrome, Opera, etc. -- Eliwood  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 10:32, 27 March 2011 (MDT)

Recent server issues

As you may have been seen, we have had recently been dealing with new server issues due to recent websites that have transferred on to it. Rest assured that I am looking into the cause and will have it fixed as soon as possible. Tacopill 08:16, 8 November 2011 (EST).

It's good to know the reason, and reassuring that you are working on this. Thank you very much. ~ Aria der Donau 10:55, 8 November 2011 (EST)

Viewing large categories

Since I wasn't sure where to post this, I figured I would ask it here. Whenever I try to view large categories such as Category:The Sacred Stones portraits with more than 200 images, it doesn't let me view any files beyond the 200 mark. When I try to click on the link for (Next 200), it just takes me back to the first 200 images in the category. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar issues like this with large categories? - Natasha 20:46, 21 January 2012 (EST)

Absolutely, I've seen that problem before, and it's rather annoying. I believe as part of the new URL when you click "Next 200", there is a small section that is "filefrom". I believe if you change that to just, "from", it may show you the next images in the category. I may be wrong about that, but I think that was the solution someone gave me. BrandedOne 20:49, 21 January 2012 (EST)
That is correct. Dillion needs to fix that... Super (duh...)AlpacaFile:Doggie Mask.png 20:53, 21 January 2012 (EST)
Thanks, that seems to make it work. I'll just have to remember to do it each time I click the link for ("Next 200"). I hope it is something that can be fixed in the near future. - Natasha 20:57, 21 January 2012 (EST)

Magazine Scans

I think we should start uploading magazine scans, if at all possible. Could be useful. Just a thought. -- Eliwood  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 11:01, 10 February 2012 (EST)

It's a good idea, Yusei. If you have, please upload them and I'll sort them in the corresponding categories. ~ Aria der Donau 21:02, 14 February 2012 (EST)

Inability to reupload files

I have no idea what happened here, but I'd like to inquire as to the removal/disappearance of the "Upload a new version of the file" option for files, particularly images. Considering there are a large number of files "ghosted" by that server transfer (eg File:FE776 Cyas.png) - especially FE5 artwork - which require reuploading, this is problematic. Even if that weren't the case it's an unfortunate thing to not have around, for general purposes of cleaning up image crops or updating slightly erroneous sprites. The ability to move pages also disappeared around the same time, but that's somewhat less of an issue. --PerplexingArticulator (talk) 00:42, 19 June 2012 (EDT)

While I'm not sure of the exact reason for these problems, our tech supports are looking into this and trying to find a solution. And about FE5 artwork, the user who cropped them may have backups; I'll talk with them and ask if they can reupload those images once the issue has been resolved. ~ Aria der Donau (talk) 02:02, 19 June 2012 (EDT)

Word blacklist

Okay seriously, we literally can't create anything with the word "skill" (let alone the still-absent skills page) in it anymore because "kill" is blacklisted. Similarly, File:Is 3ds divine falchion.png can't have its proper name, Exalted Falchion, because "sex" is blacklisted (the file name would be "Is 3ds exalted falcion"). Considering that both words pop up with some frequency in FE games, and that the former is literally a core part of the point of the games, this is just plain silly. --some idiot (talk) 09:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Extension suggestion

A few days ago, I was working on the Avatar's article, and had an idea. On some other wikis, such as F-Zero Wiki and WiKirby, we have the MyVariables extension, which adds magic words such as, for example, {{CURRENTUSER}}, which outputs the name of the user viewing the page in the article. Since the Avatar is supposed to be the player's representative in the game world, I figured we could use those magic words to personalise the articles accordingly (e.g. "David has lost his memory" instead of "Avatar has lost his/her memory"). Here it is in action on WiKirby; if you're logged in, and have specified your real name and gender, the template and documentation change to reflect them; otherwise, you get "the player". What do you think? --Moydow (Support) 19:46, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

I also want to suggest adding something to MediaWiki:Edittools, which allows you to add several commonly-used but difficult-to-type symbols to a box under the edit screen, for easier editing. Here's F-Zero Wiki's edit tools, as an example; feel free to borrow ours, if you like. --Moydow (Support) 02:30, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I can add the extension if more people are supporting it. --Sove (talk) 10:22, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
