Fergus

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.
Not to be confused with Fargus, a character from The Blazing Blade, or Faerghus, a location in Three Houses.

Fergus (Japanese: フェルグス Felgus) is a playable free knight in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is heavily implied to be the illegitimate son of the mercenary Beowolf, who had been killed in the Battle of Belhalla.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Fergus is one of the strongest units available in Thracia 776. His strength primarily revolves around one stat in particular: FCM of 5. Fergus's high FCM means that he will almost always crit his opponent when he double attacks—especially if he is wielding a Killing Edge. This is especially useful during the Munster chapters, where he is also supported by Karin, and he will be one of the best combat units available due to his ability to reliably one-round enemy armors with the Rapier. His high Sword Rank furthers his capabilities, as he is able to wield the aforementioned Rapier at base, is close to having the rank for the Flame Sword (if it was brought), and will likely be able to wield the Brave Sword when it is acquired. His combat prowess becomes less impressive after Munster as more units are able to reliably one-round enemies, but he will remain one of the more useful mounted units due to decent stats and weapon access. Additionally, free knights and rangers have some of the lowest dismounting penalties in the game as they wield swords when mounted and dismounted, which will allow Fergus to retain his strengths regardless of whether or not he is fighting indoors. Towards the end of the game, the player may acquire the Beo's Sword—a powerful personal weapon that can only be wielded by Fergus and Diarmuid and grants its wielder Vantage and Wrath (though the former cancels out the latter) with up to 60 uses.

Despite Fergus's obvious prowess, he does carry some weaknesses. His base speed can be inconsistent at times, and while his growth is decent it will need a scroll boost if he wants to grow out of it quickly. He is also very susceptible to enemy magic users due to a severely lacking magic stat - with both 0 at base compounded by a 10% growth rate. Another flaw Fergus has would be that he needs to rely on magic swords to attack at range but, because the magic stat functions both defensively and offensively in Thracia 776, Fergus will not deal much damage with them after the early game.

Overall, Fergus's flaws are redeemable when compared to his strengths but players should be aware of them when fielding him. Fergus will be an incredible asset during Munster who can remain relevant at all stages of the game.

Trivia

  • An earlier version of the character list on Thracia 776's website explicitly listed Beowolf as Fergus's father.[2] However, this has been removed from the modern version of the site.[3]
  • According to Thracia 776's website, Fergus was designed to look 22 or 23 years old.[3]
