False Friends/Script
In Castle Laus, Darin is surprised to learn Eliwood is heading towards the castle. Ephidel speculates that Helman may have survived longer than he anticipated and told Eliwood to come to Laus. Darin begins to worry that his plans for conquering Lycia may be ruined as Ostia may discover his plans soon; however, Ephidel assures Darin that they can continue with their plans so long as they crush Eliwood here and prevent him from reporting to Uther. Darin’s son, Erik, requests to take command of Laus’s forces, a request his father obliges. Ephidel expresses his doubts about Erik’s ability to fulfill the task, but Darin decides to place his faith in his son.
Meanwhile, Eliwood and Hector have arrived at Castle Laus and see firsthand the extent of Laus’s war preparations. Eliwood is hesitant to enter the castle as doing so might cause a war with Laus. While he mulls over his options, Erik rides alone to meet Eliwood. Hector leaves the two to speak alone. Erik clearly speaks to Eliwood in an ingenuine manner and clumsily attempts to find out if he has reported his findings to Ostia or not. When Eliwood asks Erik of his true intentions, he drops his facade of politeness and confesses that he has been waiting for the opportunity to crush and humiliate Eliwood since they were children. At that moment, Hector returns and tells Eliwood that there are soldiers in hiding all around the castle and warns him to prepare for battle.
As the battle continues, Ephidel grows more confident that Erik will fail and convinces Darin to abandon his son and regroup at another location. As Ephidel predicted, Erik fails in routing Eliwood’s group. After taking Erik prisoner, Eliwood and Hector search the castle for Darin but cannot find him anywhere. Erik realizes he has been abandoned by his father and tells Eliwood about Darin’s plans for rebellion which were spurred by Ephidel. Many months prior, Darin sent out envoys to the other marquesses to find allies for his rebellion. Among those who approved were Marquess Santaruz and Marquess Pherae; however, when Eliwood’s father came to Laus to seal his approval, he attempted to persuade Darin to send the Black Fang out of Lycia but failed in doing so. Ever since Marquess Pherae left Castle Laus that night, he has not been seen. After Erik’s confession, Oswin attempts to force Hector to return to Ostia in light of Elbert’s supposed approval of a rebellion. Hector refuses to listen to Oswin and demands he have more faith in Elbert, prompting Oswin to truly swear loyalty to Hector. Eliwood, meanwhile, is shaken by Erik’s account. With Hector’s encouragement though, Eliwood promises to find his father and clear his name.
Beginning log
Eliwood's Tale: A droll merchant named Merlinus now joins Eliwood’s group. With Merlinus in tow, they set out for Laus the following day. Laus is located in the heart of Lycia, a territory ruled by the power-hungry marquess of Laus, Lord Darin. Preparations for the war of which the Pheraen magistrate spoke… The disappearance of Eliwood’s father, Elbert… The death of Marquess Santaruz… Do these all revolve around Lord Darin? In Eliwood’s heart, the need for truth is drowned in fear… A fear of what that truth may hold.
Hector's Tale (if chapter 13x was visited): A droll merchant named Merlinus now joins Hector’s group. With Merlinus in tow, Hector sets out for Laus the following day. Laus is located in the heart of Lycia, a territory ruled by the power-hungry marquess of Laus, Lord Darin. According to information gathered by Ostia’s network of spies, Darin was definitely involved in Marquess Pherae’s disappearance. Despite strong opposition, Hector is determined to uncover the truth.

Intro: Heh heh heh... So, you seek insight into your next battle? Augury: Many of your foe will be carrying spears. You should take axes... Yes, many axes. Hmm... And if that shrewish cleric girl is with you, take her as well. She might well meet an old friend. The weather, though... It doesn't look very good. Be prepared for sudden changes. You know, you should take a rapier. It will serve you well against many a foe. That...is all I see.
