Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga

Introduction

Narration: Palace, capital city to the Holy Kingdom of Archanea, lay on the brink of destruction before the relentless attacks of the Dolhr Empire. Surrounded by the Imperial Army, Palace was in a state of chaos. The city's resources were drawn thin, and public order all but disappeared, with people resorting to thievery and murder to feed themselves. Palace was once hailed as the Millennium Court, but its former glory was nowhere to be seen; all that remained were hopeless wails and flames that scorched the night sky. The nightmare began two years before. The Shadow Dragon Medeus, one thousand years after being sealed away by the Legendary Hero Anri, had awoken in the land of Dolhr. With his terrifying power, Medeus conquered Grust and Macedon in the blink of an eye, and united the two nations to form the Dark Empire of Dolhr.

To stop Medeus, Archanea, together with allies Aurelis and Altea, formed an Alliance Army of over fifty thousand men to march upon Dolhr. However, due to the incompetence of the Archanean nobles, the Alliance suffered a humiliating defeat in Grust by the hands of the cunning General Camus. As the Alliance was forced to retreat, it was further crippled by the relentless pursuit from the Macedonian Dragoons led by Prince Michalis. Shocked by this defeat, the king of Archanea holed up inside Castle Palace, and the bond within the Alliance was lost.

Answering the call for aid from Palace, King Cornelius of Altea organized his entire army along with the Kingdom of Gra. However, between Cornelius and Palace stood the Grustian Army led by General Camus. The clash between the brilliant tactician Camus and the ferocious warrior Cornelius slowly degenerated into a stalemate, but the sudden betrayal of King Jiol of Gra quickly turned the tide of the battle in Grust's favor. The Altean Army was decimated, following the death of King Cornelius. Meanwhile in the north, Aurelis was under siege by the Macedonian Dragoons, slowly but surely being forced to surrender. The defeat of both Altea and Aurelis sent waves of fear through Palace. The people lost hope, and deserters could be seen fleeing the city daily. The once impregnable Castle Palace was being overrun by Imperial soldiers, and their footsteps could be heard approaching the king's chamber as well. Knowing that his fate was sealed, the king issued his last orders to Bishop Boah...

(An Illustration of the King of the Palace issuing his orders to Boa. The throne is in the background.)
King Palace: Boah, this Palace, once called the Millennium Court, shall now see its last days. I am already prepared for my fate. However, I want my only daughter, Nyna, to survive through any means. Boah, do you understand what I wish from you?
Boah: Of course, I would gladly help Nyna. But your majesty, what would one as courageous as the princess say...?
King Palace: I will simply have to convince Nyna of this. Come with me, Boah.
(Footsteps) - |Sound Effect|
(Nyna's voice goes from far to near.)
Nyna: Even if my father's ordered it, I shall not run away! I will be with the Palace and my father until the end.
Boah: Princess Nyna, please listen to His Majesty. Now's not the time for this.
Nyna: No! No matter what you say, I will remain here.
(Footsteps running from a long distance draw near.)
An Archanea Soldier: Your Majesty! Are you here? The enemy is approaching! Please escape!
King Palace: Is it so? Then there can be no other way. Boah, put the princess to sleep.
Boah: Understood. Princess, please forgive me...!
(Sound of a staff)
Narration: Boah cast a sleeping spell.
Nyna: Bishop Boah, what are you doing...?! Oh, father...! (Sound of Nyna's collapse)
(Blackout)
(Illustration of Boa putting Nyna to sleep.)
Boah: Midia, command your subordinates to guard the princess.
Midia: Yes, please leave it to me.
King Palace: Boah, after this, I wish you good luck.
Boah: Alright. I'll risk life and limb on this!
Narration: For Nyna to escape, Boah, along with a few knights, left the throne room to walk about the castle. However, in their attempt, they were forced into a secluded room by pursuing Empire soldiers.
Dolhr Soldier: Fufufufufu. Remnants of Archanea's "top" military, hiding in such a place? Give up already! If you obey, we might spare your lives.
Boah: Muh... what the... oh! Princess Nyna, you're conscious?
Nyna: ... where...?
Boah: A room in the Palace. Unfortunately, we're under siege by the Imperial Army. My judgment seems to have lapsed. Princess, in listening to my superiors, I have disrespected you. I'm terribly sorry.
Nyna: Don't be. I was acting childish. I should be the one apologizing. So, Bishop, what should we do...?
Boah: Regrettably, we'll have to surrender now. I'll negotiate with them so they won't touch you...
Midia: Boah! Surrendering without a fight? I won’t! I can't stand surrendering to these people.
Boah: Don't be so selfish, Midia. Are you going to let Nyna be caught in the skirmish? The princess is the last hope for the people of Archanea. If something happens to her, what excuse would we have?
Midia: ... that's true. I'm sorry.
Nyna: Bishop. I sympathize with Midia. Even if we're destined for ruin, I want our last minutes to be noble. If Midia and the rest fight, I want to entrust my hope to them. Bishop, please understand.
Boah: Princess Nyna, you say that with so much determination. I can say no more. Follow your heart. Guardian Narga will watch over us.
Nyna: Thank you, Boah. And thank you, Midia. Your bravery brings fire to my eyes.
Midia: Princess Nyna...
Nyna: Dolph, Macellan, Tomas, and I shall help you. Don't forget it!
Dolph, Macellan, Tomas: Right!
Midia: This is important, everyone, so let's go! We'll show the empire that the Archanea are real knights!
gameplay begins Midia: Princess Nyna, please take cover. Boa, treat the wounded with your cane. However, don't go out in front of us. Dolph and Macellan, prevent the enemy advance. Tomas, cover them from the rear. I will make use of my mobility to hinder them. I request you all do not relax your guard.
Dolph, Macellan, Tomas: Right!

During battle

23 minutes in

Dohlr Soldiers: Fire!
Dolph: Gwoh!
Macellan: Dolph! Are you alright? Aaah! That is definitely magic! Boah, mages are among our enemies. They've hurt Dolph. I'd appreciate if the "Heal" staff was used.
Boah: Indeed, magic. Midia's in danger.
Tomas: They're after the armor knights!
Boah: I will confront them. You guys must get away a bit.
Tomas: Bishop Boah, that's crazy! Midia will scold us for this.
Boah: I can endure their attacks. Now, quickly!
Tomas: Dolph, fall back.
Dolph: I'm sorry, Bishop Boah...!

26 minutes in

(Sound of damage)
Nyna: Bishop, are you alright? Let me repay you. (Sound effect of recovery with a cane.)
Boah: Thank you... Princess Nyna.
Nyna: Bishop, don't overexert yourself like that. You're not young anymore.
Boah: Ah, yes... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to...
Nyna: So the battle continues? Is everyone still ok?
Boah: Well... we're... disadvantaged. I've worn myself out. If I don't escape, the Heal staff will break...
Nyna: Alright then. Bishop, step down for a while. I will help the others instead.
Boah: But... Princess Nyna...!
Nyna: It's alright. Midia, watch over the bishop.
Midia: Yes!

29 minutes in

Nyna: Aaah!
Midia: Princess Nyna! Damn you, Dolhr soldiers! (sound of slashing) Are you alright, Princess Nyna? Bishop Boa, hurry and help here. (Sound of staff use.)
Nyna: Yeah... I'm fine... Midia... don't mind me... I just didn't...
Midia: Princess Nyna... I'm sorry. Dolph! Macellan! Tomas! Put more spirit into this fight. It isn't necessary to bring the enemy close to us. Just guard Nyna.
Dolph, Macellan, Tomas: Right!

32 minutes in

Dolhr Soldier: Fire! (Sound of fire)
Midia: So, Dolhr Soldier. Take this! (Sound of slashing)
Dolhr Soldier: Gwahh!
Boah: Are you okay, Midia?
Midia: I'm fine. We Paladins can also take a bit of magic. Boah, direct Dolph and Macellan to target the enemy. I'll stop these magicians.
Boah: Right, that's ok. I'll tell them.

36 minutes in

(Staff SFX)
Nyna: Everyone, please listen... I now have the "Unlock" staff. Its spell can unlock treasure chests even from a distance..
Boah: Princess Nyna, are you holding together?
Nyna: I'm fine. Now... Sprits of the dead, servants of the formless king, undo this seal now, and collect what's within!
(Sound of the treasure box)
Narration: The incantation of the "Unlock" spell opens the treasure chest.

38 minutes in

Midia: Bishop Boah, we've obtained the Thunder tome.
Boah: Well done, Midia. Give it to me.
Midia: Sure!
Boah: Ah, my children of Naga, we can defeat Gouber with the Thunder spell.

41 minutes in

Boah: For Archanea's prosperity! I shall cast this spell. uuu... Rain clouds, come... spin Light and earth... Like the dark night... To the silence of space... Thunder!
Enemy troops: Bwooohhhh!

44 minutes in

Dolhr Soldier: Fire!
Dolph: Gwooo!
Midia: Dolph! Are you alright?
Dolph: Nina... please... safety...
Dolhr Soldier: Gahahahahha! How stupid, you dismal bugs are gonna suffer now! Listen well, Archaneans. We have your Armor Knight! You should have surrendered sooner!
Midia: ... Dolph...

Ending (48 minutes in)

(Following the SFX of footsteps of a person running, Illustration of Camus, a blond-haired man tied in a red ribbon)
Camus: Looks like I made it in time. Ok, everyone, that's enough. I'll take both sides' arms.
Dolhr soldier: You're commander Camus! Why are you here...?
Camus: I heard the princess of Archanea was in this room. Is that true? Dolhr Soldier: Yes, that is so. She has a few knights guarding her. Although it's been a bit of trouble, it'll only be a matter of time before she's ours.
Camus: I see... it must've been hard on you. You've done well, now leave this to me.
Dolhr Soldier: Right!
Camus: Please hear me, Archaneans. I am Camus of Grust. It is meaningless for there to be any more bloodshed on either side. Please obey this: Surrender your weapons. I will go to you now. And, I will not be armed myself. On the honor of Grust, I'm not being deceitful.
(Camus walks up the steps)
Nyna: Camus... That man... the feared general of the Sable Order. He's betrayed us, brought Archanea to ruin, and killed so many people. Bishop, I hate him! I can't forgive him for this!
Midia: Princess Nyna, please leave. I shall kill Camus. For my sick parents, I will fight him to the end, as bitter as it may be.
Boah: Wait, Midia. Don't be so hasty. Do you realize what misfortune the princess would have if you try? Camus is a man to be feared. They say the Sable Order can be twice as strong as ordinary men. We can't defend Nyna against him.
Nyna: Bishop! We must keep our defenses, even if it's hopeless.
Midia: Shh, quiet! (between her teeth) Camus is coming...
(Sound of a sword unsheathing. Illustration of Midia vs Camus)
Midia: You die now, Camus!
(Sound of the sword shaking)
Camus: Woah!... A woman? Excuse me, you surprised me and I couldn't use more restraint. Yet... You guys, being with the sage knights of Archanea, are a poor imitation. You've tried a surprise attack on an unarmed enemy? Have you lost all your pride as an Archanean knight? And to think, this was my kingdom, too!
Midia: Shut your trap! You wouldn't call this a "poor imitation" if you weren't our enemy. And Grustians, speaking about pride... Don't talk such stupidity! Traitor to Archanea, your country, have you not just reduced yourself to Dolhr's slaves? What nonsense! A mere slave commanding troops! ... oh, just kill me already! Finish this already!
Camus: Unfortunately, I'm not here to kill you. Rather, I've come for Princess Nyna.
Narration: In the corner of the hallway, Nyna tries to take the dagger that Midia dropped to the ground into her own chest.
Boah: Princess Nyna, don't do that! Please stop!
(Illustration of Nyna, fallen down, with the dagger by her side. Camus kneels next to her.)
Nyna: Bishop, I can't! I have no will to live anymore now that Midia's failed.
Camus: You're Princess Nyna? And yet, such irresponsibility. Why are you on such terms to this shameless Archanean knight? In Grust, even the most spoiled brats wouldn't talk like this.
Nyna: ... how rude! Talking about irresponsibility to me of all people. What do you mean, spoiled?
Camus: You are royalty. The King is now dead, and you'll be held in account for Archanea's chaos. You shouldn't die so easily. Look at yourself. ... if you just end it right here, you'll leave everyone behind. Royalty needs to be held to a higher standard.
Nyna: The selfish thing here is bringing father to his death...!
Camus: I'm sorry, but, your father was a failure as a king. Drowning in pleasure, ignoring his political affairs, abandoning his people. The result is a humbling defeat. The King of Archanea dug his people into despair himself. A king should have an obligation to protect the public. The King of Archanea may have been a good father to you, but for the people, he was the worst. Sad, but true.
Nyna: ... My subjects, I'm sorry. I never paid heed to these things said about my father. Now, Archanea is ruined. What do I do now...?
Camus: At the least, don't let Medeus kill you now. Then, live as long as you can, and give hope to the people of Archanea... Princess, you loved to listen to your subjects, and for that, you are their hope.
Nyna: Aaa...! (break down)
Camus: Princess Nyna, this sad war is done. I'm heading to Grust, but I will return to this Palace in a few months from now as head of the occupation forces. I'm not a politician, but I am pained to see this earth ruined. I wish the rich, green Archanea would return as soon as possible. Will you help me, Nyna? To rebuild Archanea, and its people?
Nyna: ... Alright, I'll believe you. However, don't think it's because I don't hate you anymore.
Camus: If it's that bad, I could just hand my life to you now. That oughta ease your mind.
Nyna: No. I will endure for Archanea now. Someday, I shall lead a large Archanean army to challenge Dolhr. You won't be forgiven for interfering. Remember this!
Camus: Agreed. Ah, Princess Nyna. Not just charismatic, but pretty as well!
Nyna: ... so rude, and yet, it's a compliment.
Camus: (with mirth) Heeheehee. You mock me. Please excuse that, I'm a soldier of the frontier, and that's how we always talk.
Nyna: No, that's fine. I should toughen up a bit, too. Bishop, Midia, everyone, please listen. I've decided. I will surely free our mother country Archanea from the empire, no matter how painful it may be. You all must be suffering, but, please endure it. We will meet again, in this palace, someday.
Boah, Midia: (weeping) N-Nyna...!
Narrator: Thus, The Palace, capital of the largest continent, got conquered by the empire. Will Nyna's promise be realized? To know the answer, a few more years are needed...

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Introduction

During the War of Shadows... The royal palace of Archanea, the largest kingdom in the continent, was in a truly hopeless situation, under the merciless onslaught of the Dolhrian army, led by the Shadow Dragon Medeus. As the footsteps of the imperial soldiers started resounding through the palace walls... King Archanea, with no other alternatives to consider, gave a secret order to the bishop Boah.

Opening

Boah: Princess Nyna, we have mere moments before the millennial palace falls to the enemy. We must escape from here at once.
Nyna: But, what about my father..? I cannot just leave him.
Boah: Princess, this is His Majesty's order. If you manage to escape, we will be able to restore Archanea at a later date... So, please, Princess. For Archanea's future...
Nyna: Even if it's my father’s orders, I refuse to escape alone. I shall remain in the palace, together with my father till the very end.
Boah: Princess Nyna... Please consider His Majesty's feelings. We are fighting against time, now.
Nyna: No. No matter what you may persuade, I shall remain here.
Dolph: Bishop Boah! Princess Nyna! There you are! The enemy is fast approaching. Please make your escape, quickly!
Boah: I see... It cannot be helped. Dolph, Macellan. Take Princess Nyna away from here.
Macellan: Yes sir.
Nyna: No, Boah! Father! Father...!
(She leaves.)
Boah: ...Forgive me, Princess. Now, everyone, hurry!

During battle

Gouber: Hwahahaha! So that’s where you were hidin', ghosts of the Archanean army. Why don’t you jus' give up? I'll spare your sorry lives if you submit to us.
Boah: Oh dear... So is this it...?
Nyna: Bishop Boah, where are we?
Boah: In a chamber inside the palace. I'm sad to say... we're completely surrounded by imperial soldiers... It seems it was poor judgment from my part. Princess, I brought you here in such a rude fashion... What I did was truly unforgivable.
Nyna: Not at all. I was behaving like a spoiled child. I am the one who should apologize. Either way, bishop, what is our recourse now?
Boah: Unfortunately, at this point... We have no choice but to surrender. I shall negotiate with the enemy so they won't lay their hands on you.
Midia: Bishop Boah! Are you telling us to surrender without a fight? I refuse! I will not accept the possibility of surrendering to the likes of them!
Boah: Midia, don’t be selfish. Do you intend to involve Princess Nyna in this battle? The princess is the last hope of the people of Archanea. What would you tell them, should anything befall her?
Midia: I... I see... Forgive my rashness.
Nyna: Bishop. I agree with Midia. No matter what grim fate awaits us, I want us to hold our heads high with pride until the very end. If Midia and the others say they'll fight for me, then I want to entrust them with my final desire. Bishop, please allow my wish to become true.
Boah: Princess... If you’re ready to go that far, then there is nothing I can say. Everything shall be as you wish... May our guardian deity Naga protect us.
Nyna: Thank you, Bishop Boah. Midia, please do what you must. I'll burn the image of your valorous figure in my mind.
Midia: Princess...
Nyna: Dolph, Macellan, Tomas. Please assist Midia. I shall never forget any of you.
Dolph: Yes m'lady!
Midia: Alright, let’s go! Let us show those imperial soldiers that Archanea still has true knights! First, we should all move towards that small treasure room nearby. If Dolph, Macellan and myself guard the entrance, the interior will be safe. Let us hurry there!

Conversation: Nyna and Boah (Turn 4 or later)

Nyna: Boah... How is the battle going?
Boah: Hmm... We are at quite a disadvantage. I'm afraid I'm getting too old for this.
Nyna: Bishop... Please rest here for a moment. I shall take care of everyone's wounds in your place.
Boah: But, Princess...
Nyna: I cannot just do nothing when everyone else is in danger. I shall fight, too.

Conversation: Nyna and Midia (Turn 4 or later)

Midia: Princess! Are you safe?
Nyna: Yes, I am fine. Midia, should anything happen to me... Forget about me. Just escape with everyone.
Midia: But...
Nyna: I don't want to lose anyone. Not a single one of you. Midia, listen to me! You are still searching for Astram, correct? So, don't worry about me. Escape by yourself!
Midia: There is no worse disgrace than to abandon you and the palace, Princess. Please be patient for a little longer. I shall defeat every enemy, without fail. You have my word.

Conversation: Boah and Midia (Turn 4 or later)

Boah: Are you doing well, Midia?
Midia: Yes, of course. There is no way I'd fall before we bring Princess Nyna to safety. Bishop Boah. We paladins fare well against magic. I’ll take care of the enemy mages.
Boah: Very well. I’m counting on you.

Attacking Gouber

Gouber: Ahahahaha! More fools tryin' to resist? Then let me show you my power!

Killing Gouber

Gouber: H-how... disappointin'...

Ending

Soldier: Princess Nyna is 'ere! We need reinforcements! Bring the entire battalion 'ere and surround 'em! Don't let 'er escape!
Midia: No! This can't be... Even more reinforcements!
Nyna: So... is this the end?
Soldier: Listen well, Archanean scum! You cannot 'ope to win. Surrender or suffer the pain of death.
Nyna: ......
(Fade to black.)
Camus: Oh, it seems I've arrived just in time. Alright, that's quite enough. Both sides, lower your weapons.
Soldier: You’re... General Camus! Why are you ‘ere...?
Camus: I hear that the princess of Archanea is in this room. Is this true?
Soldier: Yes sir! They are but few in number, yet, some knights are 'ere with 'em. They gave us some trouble, but the princess's capture was inevitable.
Camus: I see. Good job. But you've done enough, you may leave the rest to me.
Soldier: Yes sir!
(Soldier leaves.)
Camus: Listen well, Archaneans. I am Camus, captain of the Grustian knights. I respect your prowess in battle, but further bloodshed is of no value to you or I. May I request that you lower your weapons? I wish to speak with you. I have no weapons on my person. I swear upon the honor of Grust that I will not deceive you.
(Fade to black.)
Nyna: Camus of Grust... The one they call Camus the Sable. He brought about the downfall of Archanea, and is responsible for the deaths of many...! Bishop... He is a hated enemy! I shall never forgive him!
Midia: Princess, please leave it to me. I shall kill Camus. He killed my parents. Nothing would make me happier than to do battle with him, as my final stand.
Boah: Wait, Midia, don't be hasty. Do you know what tragedy would befall the princess should you do that? Camus may be our enemy, but I hear he is a proud, exceptionally strong knight. He may even be able to protect the princess...
Nyna: Bishop! I do not wish to be protected, especially by that man!
Midia: Shh! Camus has come!
(Fade to black.)
Midia: Diiiie!
(Sound of clashing metal.)
Camus: Hah...! ...A woman? It happened so sudden, I couldn't hold back. My apologies. However, I see Archanea's paladins are fond of dishonorable tactics. To think they would ambush an unarmed foe. Not only is the Archanean army thoroughly disappointing, but even the knights have no pride? No wonder your kingdom has fallen.
Midia: Damn you! You're one to talk! I would not resort to such means if my opponent were anyone but you! Pride, you say...? Sure you jest! Your country betrayed Archanea and degraded itself as Dolhr's slave! What are you!? The captain of Dolhr's dogs, that’s what! ...Enough of this. Kill me! You don't need to hold back!
Camus: I have no intention of killing you. More importantly, Princess Nyna...
(Fade to black.)
Nyna: If it has come to this, then...
Boah: Princess, what are you doing!? Please stay your hand!
Nyna: Bishop, don't stop me! Now that Midia has failed, I have no desire to live...
Camus: You are Princess Nyna, I presume. Not only your knight, but you as well... are all Archaneans this irresponsible? In Grust, this kind of behavior is reserved for spoilt children only.
Nyna: Insolent cur! On what grounds are you calling me irresponsible? And what do you mean by spoilt!?
Camus: You are a member of royalty. Now that your king has passed away, you must shoulder responsibility of Archanea. Wishing to throw away your life without considering the consequences... Please spare me of this selfishness. ...Dying is easy. However, what would become of the people you would leave behind? Do you truly intend to throw away your responsibility as royalty?
Nyna: How dare you try and lecture me! Y-you drove my father to his death...!
Camus: Forgive me for what I am about to say... But your father was a failure of a king. He drowned in pleasure, neglected politics, and ultimately abandoned his people. Archanea's miserable defeat was his doing. The one who led your people to the abyss of despair was none other than King Archanea himself. It is the king's duty to protect his people. King Archanea may have been a good father to you, but he was an incompetent king to his people. My words my be harsh, but I only speak the truth.
Nyna: ...I feel pity for my people. I warned my father time and time again, but he never listened. However, Archanea has already fallen. What do you suggest I do at this point!?
Camus: At the very least, Emperor Medeus currently does not wish to kill you, Princess. So, you must continue to live on, to your fullest, and bring hope to the citizens of Archanea... I hear your citizens love you. To them, you embody the hope of Archanea.
Nyna: Ohh...!
Camus: Princess, this unfortunate war is now over. I must now return to Grust, but, in a few months, I shall return as the commander of the occupation army. I am no politician, but watching this desolate land brings pain to my heart... I wish for the kingdom of Archanea to become the verdant land it once was, as soon as ideally possible. Princess Nyna, may I ask for your assistance? Would you deign to rebuild Archanea, together with your people?
Nyna: ...Very well. I shall give you the benefit of the doubt. However, don't think my hatred towards you has disappeared.
Camus: If you wish to take my life, you can have it anytime. If that's what it takes to satisfy you.
Nyna: No. I shall endure for now, for my motherland, Archanea. However, one day, I shall lead the Archanean League's army and fight Dolhr. Should you stand in my way when that time comes, I shall display no mercy. Remember that.
Camus: Understood. ...Princess. I thought your people adored you because of your beauty, but it seems there's more to it than that.
Nyna: ...You speak rather impolitely, but I'll accept your praise graciously.
Camus: Hahaha, please excuse my rudeness. As but a soldier from the borderlands, I can only manage this rustic manner of speaking, so please forgive me.
Nyna: No, it is fine. I, too, must become stronger.
(Camus leaves.)
Nyna: Bishop, Midia, everyone, please heed me. I have made my choice. No matter how thorny that path might be, one day, assuredly, I shall take back our motherland Archanea from the empire. I know it'll be difficult for everyone, but for now, please endure. So that one day, we may reunite in this very palace!
Boah: Princess...
Midia: Hail Princess Nyna...!

Outro

And this was the story of how the greatest palace in the continent fell under the Empire's control. Would Nyna's promise ever be fulfilled? The answer to that question would only be known years later.
