Ewan (ユアン, Yuan) is a student of magic who appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He studies with his mentor Saleh in the mountains around Caer Pelyn, and works diligently to become a master of the magical arts. He starts as a pupil, the only one of his class in the entire Fire Emblem series series. Ewan is the brother of Tethys and is a cheerful, fun-loving child.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Role
In Eirika's route, Ewan first appears in Chapter 10, in which he finds Tethys and asks her to let him adventure with her. He suggests to Eirika that they take a pass through the mountains to Rausten, going through the village of Caer Pelyn, where his teacher Saleh resides. In the next chapter, he guides the army through the mountains. When monsters appear in an abandoned fortress, Tethys tells him to stay behind and not fight. He obeys, but in Chapter 12, he begins to fight once someone visits a small house he is trapped in. Afterwards, he continues to fight with Eirika for the rest of the game.
In Ephraim's route, Ewan first appears in Chapter 12 with Saleh, who tells him to find Marisa, part of the mercenary company. He goes to a village to find her, while Saleh goes to find the Great Dragon. He is recruited by anyone who visits the village, and he joins the army. Afterwards, he continues to help fight with Ephraim.

Personality and character
Ewan is a cheerful, friendly child who loves to show his magic abilities. Although he is new, he can do many interesting tricks and often thinks about how to make something fun.[1] He is very laid-back and quite adventurous, such as when he insists that he go with Eirika to journey. Ewan also is very intelligent and enjoys brainteaser puzzles.[2] Additionally, he comes up with several great ideas, such as communication from great distances[3] and non-pegasus flying coaches.[4]
Ewan is the brother of Tethys, and he is linked to Gerik's mercenary company, which Tethys is a part of. Therefore, he also knows Marisa, a member of the mercenary company. He and Tethys are orphans, abandoned by their parents when young; however, Ewan does not mind, since he has gotten to meet many people because of this.[5] He often argues with Tethys that he is no longer a child, but he does greatly care for her. A few years ago, Saleh came to visit Gerik's mercenary group and met Ewan. According to Saleh, the spark in Ewan's eyes enticed Saleh to take him as a student.[6] Once, Saleh once took him on a training journey across the entire continent of Magvel, on which Ewan was greatly mesmerized and impressed by the sights he saw.[7] Although Ewan can somtimes be careless, such as when he dropped a magic tome into a river,[8] Saleh greatly cares for Ewan and sees much talent in him, and Ewan greatly respects Saleh as a teacher.

Endings
Ewan, Enthusiastic Student
Ewan continued his studies, modeling his life after the teachings of Saleh. Eventually, his education branched off into different paths. His insatiable curiosity led him on a trip to explore the world.
Saleh and Ewan
Master and student returned to Caer Pelyn to study in peace. Ewan worked hard, and in time, his power grew to rival Saleh's. As equals, the two continued their studies together and expanded their knowledge ever more.
Ewan and Amelia
After the war, Ewan and Amelia set out, as promised, on a trip around the world. Their deeds along the way made small legends in the regions they visited. In time, Amelia gave birth to a daughter, and they settled down.

Amelia: Huh? Um, all right. But... I'm sure you'd be bored.
Ewan: That's not true. And even if it were, it's simply a matter of how you make it fun." — Ewan and Amelia's C support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: That brainteaser was fun, huh? Did you get it yet?
Ross: I already told you I didn't have any fun!" — Ewan and Ross's A support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: Imagine people far away from each other talking.
...
Dozla: 10,000 paces? You must be kidding.
Ewan: No, I'm not. And even farther than that! For example... What if one person were in Frelia, and the other person were in Rausten?
Dozla: What?!
Ewan: That's right! Anyone you could think of, you could talk to. I read about magical devices that could do the same thing, but... Wouldn't it be better if anyone could do it, and not just mages?" — Ewan and Dozla's A support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: Exactly! So I was thinking about coaches that could travel in the air..." — Ewan and Dozla's B support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Ross: You were an orphan? I-I'm sorry. I had no idea.
Ewan: How could you know? Don't worry about it. I don't even remember being abandoned. And because of that, I got a chance to travel around, and meet lots of people. Like you. So, I'm not sad at all." — Ewan and Ross's A support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: If that's the way you felt about it, why did you let me be your student?
Saleh: Your eyes.
Ewan: My eyes?
Saleh: You had a spark in your eyes. I knew that I saw an exceptional talent for magic in those eyes." — Ewan and Saleh's B support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: Oh, really? My teacher--he's the great sage Saleh from Caer Pelyn-- took me out on a training journey for many months once.
Amelia: Where did you go?
Ewan: Lots of different places across Magvel. We went to Renais, Frelia, Rausten, and Jehanna. Oh, and we went to Grado, too." — Ewan and Amelia's A support, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - ↑ "Ewan: That's right. Then I dropped it and SPLASH!! Right in it went...
