Role

If the player visits the house on the right in Chapter 9, Elffin automatically joins at the start of Chapter 11B. If Larum is recruited instead by visiting the left or neither village, he takes the role of the character who manages the Auguries.

Elffin first appears in Chapter 10B. When the lord Zinque sets his forces loose on a small village to locate Elffin, Roy intervenes. The two meet, and Elffin introduces himself as a member of the resistance. He explains the motivations Chancellor Roartz and Lord Arcardo had in sending Roy to the Western Isles - to weaken Lycia for an invasion from Bern. After Roy's coolheaded response to this provocation impresses Elffin, he joins Roy as an advisor and directs the Lycian Army toward Caldonia. He also gifts Roy the Wyrmslayer in anticipation of Bern's dragons.

If Larum is recruited instead, the above conversation will play out at the end of Chapter 11A, where Elffin directs Roy's forces to Juteaux. However, he will neither join nor give Roy the Wyrmslayer, as he then already received it from Larum in Chapter 10A.

At the end of Chapter 11B, Roy recognizes Elffin as Etrurian nobility, though Elffin denies this. His true identity as Etruria's Prince Myrddin is only revealed in his dialogue with Perceval in either Chapter 13 or Chapter 15. Thus, his identity remains unknown in Larum's route. One year before the events of the game, he survived an assassination attempt on him through the help of Douglas, who tasked his daughter Larum with bringing him to safety on the Western Isles.[3]

Additionally, unlocking Chapter 12x requires his survival, if he was recruited.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Elffin is a typical Dancer, possessing fairly high luck and speed, but poor bulk and the inability to fight back. As he will never face combat, his stats do not really matter, but an Angelic Robe can be used to improve his survivability if needed. It can allow him to survive being struck by a siege tome or a ballista, for instance.

Elffin has the ability to dance for player units who have already taken a turn, allowing them to move again. This is extremely useful for a variety of different situations, most notably allowing the player to easily use warp more than once a turn in order to skip certain maps. The uses of a dancer are almost endless, and are only limited by the player's creativity. Because of the great utility Elffin offers, he is overall an invaluable asset, especially when playing the game on hard mode.

Endings

Elffin, One of True Sight
Short: Disappeared before anyone could notice.

Long: After the war, Elffin disappeared without a word. Several months later, an official announcement was made in Etruria that Prince Myrddin was alive. The prince that hid his identity to help General Roy in the war... That story is now a favorite among bards and writers.
