Duke Gerth is a non-playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is the head of House Gerth in Adrestia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Biography

Duke Gerth is the head of House Gerth in the Adrestian Empire. In Imperial Year 1171, he participated during the Insurrection of the Seven by allying himself with Duke Aegir and the other noble houses involved, with the implied reason of wishing to conserve the Empire's stability. In 1175, during the Dagda and Brigid War, his house fought the combined forces of both nations along with House Nuvelle, and while House Gerth did manage to survive the struggle, House Nuvelle did not. During the aftermath of the war, Duke Gerth took responsibility of dealing with Brigid's new vassalage state, brought Petra to the Empire and enrolled her in Garreg Mach Monastery in 1180. Around this period, Dagda also gifted him the Fetters of Dromi as a sign of goodwill and reconciliation with the Empire for their past deeds.

In 1180, the Church of Seiros tasks Constance with retrieving the Fetters of Dromi from Duke Gerth after acquiring knowledge of the relic's current owner. Yuri and Byleth accompany Constance to Adrestia to ensure everything goes smoothly, only to find out Duke Gerth is being attacked by a group of thieves led by Myson, a member of "Those who slither in the dark", who wishes to claim the relic for himself. Byleth and their group then rescue Duke Gerth and manage to drive Myson off. Afterward, Duke Gerth rewards Constance's efforts with the relic as well as a way to repay a debt he owes to her parents for having ensured his house's survival during the Dagda and Brigid War, knowing full well he's neglecting his duties with his action as the Empire intended to use the Fetters of Dromi as leverage against the Church.

When Edelgard von Hresvelg declares war on the Church of Seiros in 1181, Duke Gerth takes her side during the war. On non-Crimson Flower routes, this causes a non-recruited Petra a lot of turmoil as she's grateful for what the Duke has done for her.
