Crests

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.
For the gameplay mechanic from Fire Emblem Warriors, see Crests (Warriors).

Crests (Japanese: 紋章 Emblem) are tokens of the goddess's power granted to humans on the continent of Fódlan. They are a hereditary aspect and can be passed on to a bearer's child; making it functionally similar to Holy Blood and Dragon Vein manipulative ability. Crests first appeared in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and are held by several characters appearing in that game and its spinoff Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

They are power incarnate. They are said to have been bestowed upon humans by the goddess countless ages ago. They exist within the flesh, and are passed down through bloodlines. Those who carry Crests may excel at magic, display exceptional strength, or any number of boons.
— Hanneman to Byleth, on Crests

Overview

Units in Fire Emblem: Three Houses who possess a Crest have altered capabilities in combat. Each Crest has a random chance of providing a bonus to certain actions. The type of action that will trigger the Crest's effect is always given in the Crest's description.

  • "When using a weapon" means the Crest may trigger on any weapon attack or counterattack, but not on combat arts.
  • "When using combat arts" means that the Crest may trigger on any attacking combat art.
  • "When using Recovery Magic" or "Conserve uses of recovery magic" means that the Crest may trigger any time the bearer uses the Heal, Physic, Fortify, or Recover spells.
  • "During Magic attacks" or "Conserve uses of attack magic" means that the Crest may trigger any time the bearer casts a spell not listed above as recovery magic.

Whenever a Crest triggers, a small black popup will appear above the character's name. The random number that determines whether the Crest effect triggers is drawn from the same string of random numbers that determines whether or not attacks hit and crit, and is drawn before the hit's random numbers are drawn. This means that Crests may "trigger" even on attacks that miss, but the effect will only be applied on attacks that hit.

In addition to the Crest's listed effect, all Crest-bearers may use any of the Heroes' Relics without losing HP after combat (non crest-bearers will lose 10 HP) and may use the Relic's unique combat art if they have the matching Crest. Crest-bearers also receive augmented healing from sacred weapons if they bear the matching Crest.
