Appearance(s)

Count Leopold von Bergliez (pronounced /'bɝgliz/[key]; Japanese: レオポルト=フォン=ベルグリーズ伯爵 Count Leopold von Bergliez), is a non-playable character mentioned in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is Caspar's father and the head of House Bergliez.

Biography

Pre-games

Leopold von Bergliez is the head of House Bergliez of the Adrestian Empire and Minister of Military Affairs. By Imperial Year 1163, he has had two sons—the second being Caspar von Bergliez.[1] In 1168, his father retired, letting him officially inherit the title of Count, and Minister of Military Affairs.[2], and allows Caspar to meet Waldemar's son, Linhardt von Hevring, in 1169.[3] In 1171, Leopold gets involved in the Insurrection of the Seven, in which Duke Ludwig von Aegir and other Imperial nobles seized power from Emperor Ionius IX after the latter was pushing reforms which would consolidate the power to himself.[4]

In 1175, the Dagda and Brigid War occurred, an event in which both Dagda and Brigid joined forces in an attempt to invade the Adrestian Empire. Leopold and the Imperial Army intercepted their armies past House Nuvelle and House Ochs's territory, and managed to defeat them while also slaying the king of Brigid.[5][6]

It is implied that early in 1180, Leopold, along with Waldemar, Duke Gerth, Lord Arundel, and other nobles involved with the Insurrection of the Seven, started making a deal with Edelgard von Hresvelg behind Duke Aegir's back, which would allow the Imperial princess to ascend the imperial throne in due time with no intervention from Luwdig and others, while also letting her assume the Empire's upcoming conquest against the Church of Seiros and later, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and the Leicester Alliance in 1181, for which Leopold provided her access to the Empire's military.[7][8]

Three Houses

After Edelgard's ascension, Leopold gets pardoned from his involvement with Duke Aegir's insurrection[9] and is allowed to contribute in her war efforts.

In the Silver Snow, Azure Moon, and Verdant Wind routes, after Edelgard's defeat in 1186, Count Bergliez surrenders to Byleth's chosen faction[10] and sacrifices his life to ensure the wellbeing and protection of his troops.[11] Meanwhile, in the Crimson Flower route, Leopold is assigned the governance of Leicester after being seized by the Empire during Edelgard's war,[12] and remains alive during the rest of the campaign.

Warriors: Three Hopes

Sometime after Edelgard enrolls into the Officers Academy in Garreg Mach, she contacts both Leopold and Count Hevring about her sudden coup against Duke Aegir and Lord Arundel with the support of the Knights of Seiros, and both men agree to support her efforts by blocking Ludwig's escape during Edelgard's strike while also fighting against his and Volkhard's forces. After Duke Aegir's capture and Lord Arundel/Thales' escape, Count Bergliez and Waldemar resume their negotiations with the soon-to-be Emperor, and start making preparations during two years for a 5 year war against the Central Church.
