Claud joins late into Chapter 3, and he comes in handy for the rest of the first generation. Claud's Major Bragi blood permits him to use the Valkyrie staff, which is indispensable as it can bring any units you want back from the dead. Every usage also gives him a full level up, however it must be used in the Home castle. Beyond that, his staff ability means he can support the army very easily, albeit beyond Rescue and Physic his low movement will prove challenging to use for most of the frontline units. While he is objectively capable of combat, his low movement, lack of any combat skills (Follow-Up in particular), and the presence of other capable fighters in the party means he is not best suited for this, and having him avoid combat outside the Arena to avoid the risk of him dying (which means the Valkyrie staff is permanently lost, and all unit deaths from that point on are final). Claud cannot resurrect Sigurd, whose death is an automatic game over, and the Valkyrie staff is of no use for saving the home castle should it come under attack.

His best children, due to his lack of skills, are the two who can use staves. Thus, it is recommended to marry him to Silvia or Erinys so Coirpre or Ced can get access to the Valkyrie staff. While any of them benefit from the enhanced growth rates, only Arthur of Tailtiu otherwise uses primarily magic; the rest do not and do not benefit as much with a magical father like Claud.

— Opening narration of the Prologue

Claud (Japanese: クロード Claud) is a playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. He was the lord of the Edda dukedom of Grannvale, a full-blooded descendant of Bragi of the Twelve Crusaders, and head of the Church of Edda. Gifted with divine foresight, he learned the reality of the chaos engulfing the noble houses of Grannvale, and was an ally of Sigurd following the false accusations laid against him about the death of Prince Kurth.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Role

Six months into Sigurd's occupation of Agustria, Claud arrived at Madino Castle with Tailtiu in tow, warning Sigurd of the death of Kurth and the rumors implicating Sigurd in Kurth's murder. Afterward, Claud departed for Bragi Tower to pray and attempt to divine the truth of the conflict. He and Tailtiu emerged from the tower after Sigurd defeated Chagall at Sylvale Castle, having learned the reality of Reptor and Lombard being behind Kurth's death, and having found Valkyrie, long thought to be lost. He subsequently accompanied Sigurd in exile to Silesse, on the march back to Grannvale and in the Battle of Belhalla, in which he foresaw his own death.[2]

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

While any of them benefit from the enhanced growth rates, only Arthur or Tailtiu otherwise uses primarily magic; the rest do not and do not benefit as much with a magical father like Claud.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Claud is deceased as of Grann 776; however, Sleuf claims to have communed with Claud's soul at Bragi Tower, received a prophecy from him, and was told to act as Claud's eyes in the mortal world in observing the fate of Jugdral.[3]
