Class change/Nintendo 3DS games
This sub-page covers the class change stats for the three Nintendo 3DS games: Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Fates, and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Awakening reintroduces branching class changes for almost every class, the exceptions being the Lord and Tactician classes. A single item—the Master Seal—is used to promote all classes, including Lords. Master Seals are freely available from certain merchants on the world map, effectively allowing the player to promote every playable character.
Weapon level changes are described in terms of weapon experience.

Fire Emblem Fates
The class change system in Awakening is recycled in Fates with new classes. Every class has a branching promotion except for the Kitsune and Wolfskin classes, as well as the Nohr Prince/Princess on the Birthright and Conquest routes. The Master Seal is used to promote all classes and are freely available from My Castle vendors, thus allowing the player to promote every playable character.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Being a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, Shadows of Valentia uses largely the same class change system as the original. Class changing is achieved by visiting any Mila Shrine. By interacting with the female statue in the center of each, the player is prompted as to whether they want to promote each unit capable of promoting at the time. Each class has a set threshold level for class changing; once they reach this, the player is notified when the unit levels up to the correct level.
Celica promotes in an event: she promotes to Princess by talking to a woman at Mila's Shrine after clearing it in Act 3. Alm may promote to Hero at any time after Celica talks to Halcyon in the Sage's Hamlet in Act 4; unlike in the original, he must visit a Mila Shrine to do so. While Celica's initial class, Priestess, is not exclusive to her, no other Priestesses can promote to Princess. When promoting a Villager, the player will be offered a choice of classes to promote that character to, depending on their gender. When a Dread Fighter promotes to Villager, they can promote again to any of the options available to the Villager as usual, looping the process of the class change tree from the beginning.
The DLC of Shadows of Valentia introduces the concept of "overclasses", which, once purchased by the player, may be accessed by units who have reached level 20 of their standard highest-tier class by visiting the appropriate altar; e.g. Alm must visit the Altar of the King in order to promote to Conqueror, once he has reached level 20 in the Hero class. Overclasses also grant enhanced stat caps as well as other new attributes.
All stat increases when changing class are based solely on the promoted class's base stats; if a unit's given stat prior to promotion is lower than the promoted class's base stat in the same, the stat increases by an amount sufficient to reach the promoted class's base stat. If a unit's current stat is higher than the matching promoted base stat, the stat is unmodified. However, if all stats equal or exceed the promoted class' base stats, that unit will receive +1 to HP.
