Part 1: Hidden Foes

Pre-Battle

Ephraim: The forest seems to have gotten rather thick… That will help us shake whoever pursues us. Let’s hurry, Eirika. We should keep going so we can keep what distance we have.
Eirika: Do you really think we’ll be able to make it back to the castle, Ephraim? It feels like that woman who captured us is still watching us somehow…
Ephraim: She said her name was Thórr, right? Her martial ability was impressive, I’ll admit that… It’s difficult to believe that was power a mortal could wield. Still, whoever the opponent, I do not intend to lose. …All right, let’s wade into the water here and make our way upstream.
Eirika: But…won’t we get wet?
Ephraim: Yes, but the water will erase any tracks we leave. We’ll travel upstream for a while, then cross. That should give any pursuer trouble following us. Now, let’s get going.
Eirika: R-Right!

(scene change to Thórr)

Thórr: Heh… They may be young, but they are no fools. They are worthy of my trial, meant only for the truly strong.

(scene change to the map screen)

Innes: If the sun is there… West has to be this way. We must be nearly halfway through the afternoon. Based on the amount of time that has passed since we were captured, Castle Frelia should be…
Tana: Innes, look! Over there! I think I saw a structure in that direction.
Innes: Quiet, Tana. I’m trying to develop our strategy right now…
L’Arachel: Aha! You two showed up at the perfect time.
Innes: …Who are you?
L’Arachel: Heehee… The noble do not reveal their identities so easily! The more important matter is that I seem to be lost… Would you be so kind as to escort me?
Innes: …I think not. Let’s go, Tana.
L’Arachel: Hey, wait! Don’t just ignore me, a woman in need of assistance! That’s unforgivable behavior! Hm? And who’s this now?
Innes: Argh! Our pursuers! It seems we have no choice… We’ll have to defeat them before they can call reinforcements!

Post-Battle

Tana: There’s our opening! Let’s make a run for it!
Innes: Gah! You wasted my time with your blathering, so I couldn’t strategize… This is your fault!
L’Arachel: And I see I was mistaken to seek any assistance from the likes of you!

Part 2: Meeting Too Soon

Pre-Battle

Ephraim: Huh?! Quick, Eirika, hide!
Eirika: Ah! Wh-what is it?
Ephraim: I saw a shadow headed this way. Come on, this way. We’ll hide here and get the drop on them. …Now!
Lyon: Gah! Wh-who are you?
Eirika: Oh! Hm… We were brought here against our will. Did the same happen to you, by chance?
Lyon: Yes, I—
Ephraim: No time to discuss that now, you two. Someone’s approaching. Now, while we have the advantage!

Post-Battle

Ephraim: Come on! Retreat, Eirika—and you! Hurry! This way!
Lyon: I-I’m with you!

Part 3: Enduring Friendship

Pre-Battle

L’Arachel: Oh, thank goodness! I’m happy to have found someone else out here… Would you kindly guide me?
Ephraim: Hold on now! People just keep appearing from nowhere… Where are you all coming from? And who are you, exactly?
L’Arachel: My… Everyone just wants to know who I am! Not that I can blame them, of course.
Eirika: Right, so tell us who you are already.
Innes: Ah, Ephraim! I never imagined we would find you out here!
Tana: Oh! And Erika’s here too!
Lyon: Um… I beg your pardon, but if we stay here any longer, we’ll—

Post-Battle

Eirika: Oh, look! We’ve nearly reached the edge of the forest!
Tana: Ooh! We might actually make it home! Now that I’m not so worried, I’m just realizing I’ve started to get hungry…
Ephraim: I found some fruit earlier. Anyone is welcome to some if they’d like.
Innes: Ephraim! You shouldn’t dole out fruit you know nothing about. You ought to make sure it isn’t poison first!
L’Arachel: Mm-mmm! Delicious! Truly, this is a blessing from the gods!
Lyon: …Hee hee hee.
Innes: Hm? And just what is it you find so funny about this situation?
Lyon: O-oh… I’m sorry. It’s just…this is the first time I’ve ever been around so many others near my age. I hadn’t known chatting in a group like this would be such fun.
L’Arachel: Same here, now that you mention it! I’m always stuck surrounded by sooo many adults…
Innes: And? What’s the problem with that? Why should children get to know other children, hm? This is the time when we should prioritize learning as much as we can from our elders.
Eirika: But there is also much one can learn from their friends.
Ephraim: Eirika’s right! Father said a friend is something that ought to be treasured for a lifetime.
Innes: O-of course! …It’s not as if I don’t know all that! But we nobles have responsibilities! We are different from common children.
Tana: So, what? You’re saying you and Ephraim aren’t friend then? Well… we’re friends, aren’t we, Eirika?
Eirika: We are! You’re a friend I hold dear, Tana.
Innes: Hah! Ephraim and I? Friends?! Don’t make me laugh!
Lyon: Heh… Hah… Ahahaha!
(the screen flashes white)
Lyon: H-huh? What…what is this? I’m suddenly…very…sleepy…
Ephraim: N-no…way… Did our…pursuers… …
(the screen flashes white)
Thórr: …I will step in here. It is time to bring this trial to its close. Your memories of this day will be lost, children, and you will be returned to your lives. However, the connection that lives in the depths of your hearts will remain and bring you strength. This alone I will refrain from erasing. May you carry it with you and draw from it in future battles. Be you allies or, as it may happen, mortal enemies, wield the strength you have sown here today.
